I know the benefits but when you live in the uk they are min approx £90 ($175) so the cost outways the benefits until i'm finished uni. And by then the DS 2 might be out anyway so unless my DS packs up I'm staying put.

The only way you're taking my (painted) DSPhat from me is from my cold, dead hands.

That said, I am looking for a way to get an Enamel Navy DSLite, but now that its been discontinued, I guess its just a fool's hope.

I upgraded and gave my Phat to my niece as a gift. It was well worth it. The screens are so much brighter, games like NSMB and Kirby Canvas Curse looks absolutely amazing on the Lite. The bigger stylus was a nice plus as well.

I upgraded to a black DS lite last December. My friend came over to play some Mario Kart with his White lite and I got jealous.

The next day I made him take me to get one. It was two days after Christmas and I had to go to 7 stores before I could find one.

It was so worth it.

I also covet an Enamel Navy model, Nushio, but it seems there are always other things to spend money on than a new Lite plus extra shipping and import costs... but it's really the best-looking of all the models. Sigh.

Number 9 is the reason I upgraded. Now I can play multiplayer games easily and I can also play games while my sisters are playing. That is, if they aren't both playing with one which happens quite often.

I needed to pick up a 2nd DS recently and had my heart set on a Blue Phat, but couldn't find a Phat for the life of me. Ended up with a Lite.

So that would be the most important reason to go with the Lite.

i didnt want to upgrade it
but i was forced to
my old delicious DSPhat was stolen (guess they cant keep their hands off of it)
so i needed to buy a new shiny black lite (damn thing is a fingerprint magnet)
I still have dreams about how my sexy Phat baby is doing right now

Man, people stealing your game gear is just wrong. My sympathies go out to you!

I didn't choose a black Lite for just that reason, though. My PSP taught me the dangers of the black electronic fingerprint magnet. White is much safer.

Or at least less visible.

I bought a Phat DS with a warranty at EB and when I went to exchange it they were all out of Phats so it got replaced with a black DS Lite.

I waited for the DS Lite to be out in black and then I pounced.
I see an original DS and I can't believe they are related!!

I really love my Onyx DS lite.
It's everything the article said, and the proverbial bag of chips.

Jeez, I'm perfectly content with my DS-Phat (Red with checkered strap)... but the enticement intensified with point number nine.
I'm constantly wanting to 2-player someone without the system... especially when they keep trying to take mine and play it when I'm playing it.

I still rock it out with a DS phat. I just can't bring myself to spend $130 on something I sorta own already. Especially with all the new games coming out.

10 Reasons not to upgrade
1) DS Phat still working
2) Spend money on games instead of something you already own
3) You have big hands
4) You already own DS Phat accessories that does not fit with DS Lite
5) You hate finger prints magnet
6) DS Phat train your muscles better
7) DS Phat is cheaper
8) Current DS Phat battery life is good enough
9) You play online instead of game sharing
10) You don't feel the need to mod your DS Phat

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the larger stylusthat comes with it?
Admitedly, if it's that big of an issue, most people just buy an actual pen sized stylus, but I honestly like the stylus that comes with the DS lite.

The DS lite is the best handheld I've ever owned. I love my PSP's big screen, but my Onyx DS Lite is extremely bright, the speakers are super loud if necessary, and most importantly, its friggin slick.. The DS Phat pales in comparison to the Lite. Lites are actually even becoming a status symbol nowadays.

I switched, and I regret it.
The brighter screen is no big deal, the shiny-ness of the lite is overpowered by fingerprints, and it was a $20 setback (got 110 for my old DS and one of my games that I didn't plan on playing again)...
I also think it's uncomfortable as hell to hold. My hands really aren't that big, but for me, hitting the shoulder buttons (especially in fast paced games like Daigasso Band Brothers) is a total bitch.
I also DESPISE that the power button is on the side. How many times I've accidently powered down is beyond me.

The only things I like about my new lite is that the battery is fresh (my old DS's battery was slowly getting less and less life. I think it got down to like 6 hours of gameplay at one point) and the stylus is bigger.

If you have a DSphat in good working condition- keep it!

Two things worth mentioning...

1. Gameboy Advance games stick out of the DSlite obnoxiously .

2. DSlite buttons are flimsy and seem to float around in their position while the DSPhat's buttons are sturdy and less prone to cramp your hand while in a desperate NSMB multiplayer battle.

2 reasons why I'm sticking with the DS instead of a DSL:

Better screen quality and better speaker quality. The DSL plays Elite Beat Agents and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! like crap, frankly. The colours look washed out, the sound crackles and sounds muffled. It's terrible. Before I played EBA and OTO on the DSL, I was all for one... But now, I am most definatly not interested.

switching to a lite is like trading in your imaginary girlfriend for a prettier one, more of a sideways move than an upgrade.

i use and abuse my utility shelf gray ds phat with love and pride!

Sticking with my red DS Phat, thanks. The DSL is *too* small-- I don't have giant man-hands, but I have had nerve problems in my wrists for several years, and anything that cramps my hands is to be avoided. It's the same reason why I insist on ergonomic keyboards and mice whenever possible... it's just less of a strain.

I like the bigger stylus, too... though I usually just use my Castlevania PoR stylus for the obvious reason that I have an unhealthy love for Castlevania!

The only way i'm switching to a lite is if my ds breaks or I get one free o' charge, but till then i shall prefer my ds phat. even then the only reason for me to switch is i killed my L button playing metroid, seriously it's been raped. which sucked because i was playing online (which i don't get to do often) and it decided it wasn't going to work for 3+ matches, so i was left running around like a headless chicken.

Believe it or not, I actually prefer the looks of the old Nintendo DS.
I have had countless discussions with people preferring the Lite but I just don't like it as much as I like the original model.

I own a DS Lite, and though some people here are just trying to justify their old DS Phat, the Lite is superior in every way. I didn't mind the Phat too much, except that it's bulky. I keep hearing people saying the Phat is better for big hands. I have embarrassingly large hands, and the Lite is far more comfortable. Brighter, sleeker, smaller, lasts longer. It's one sexy machine.

I upgraded to a DS Lite when My DSPhat's top screen got busted. The DSP's Colors just look so washed out and bleak, while the lite is beautiful. I Got a Nerf Case for it, and it makes it aobut the same size as the Phat, so The size isn't really an Issue with me. I love my Onyx Ds Lite.

The Lite is just a million times better than the fat. The only reason to not upgrade would be because you lack money.
And whenever someone says their hands are too big for a DS Lite, they secretly mean that their hands are too fat.
