TGS07: Kaz Hirai to headline Tokyo Game Show

Now that all that pesky E3 business is behind us we can start talking Tokyo Game Show! The newly lengthened TGS has just announced the keynote speaker ... none other than Ken Kutaragi's successor, Kaz Hirai. Of course, Kutaragi delivered last year's (baffling) TGS keynote, so it's only fitting that Kaz take the baton this year.

Let's just hope he doesn't go all E3 '06 on us, with dry charts and boring numbers; we'd love to see some sex appeal from the new Pres of SCEI. Now, what's the name of his speech? "The Expanding PlayStation World, Business Strategy For New Growth." Well, charts are cool we suppose ...

Kaz Hirai is one of the most boring public speakers I've ever seen. Talk about charts and graphs - the last keynote I saw him give was nothing but.

But the TGS keynote is not about that. It's a true keynote. I didn't see Kutaragi's speech last year, but maybe it was baffling to some because it's not supposed to be about the company who the exec works for. It's supposed to be about the industry in general and the show specifically. And they're given a "theme" to talk about, which is the theme of the show.

In other words, they're usually pretty worthless speeches, no matter who is giving them. They just mark the official opening of the show.

Kaz is God compared to Dillhole or whatever the new CEO of SCEA is called.

He has to be able to do a better job than Jack Tretton. Jack clearly needs to work on the public speaking skills. I actually felt sorry for him during his E3 presentation. Jack does seem to be a really nice guy though so I don't want to come across like I am attacking the guy.

It'll be interesting to see what his ideas are to move this brand forward. I'd love to see a permanent drop for their low end model (be it 20GB or 60GB) to around $400.

All they need to do is a live demo of MGS4 and maybe a new trailer for FF13... it would be the hit of the show.

No, the true hit.....release every PSone game ever made at the same time on the PS Store for 5.99 regardless of the number of discs it was released on.

They've already reported Peter Moore quit MS and went to EA Sports with signing bonuses and to be with his family and that his replacement is Dan Mattrick who came from EA. And that PS3 exceeds 360 is WEEKLY sales.

The PS3 exceeded the 360 right when it launched by a large margin as well. Whenever there is a price drop, a surge in sales results. What is more interesting is that it barely exceeded the 360. If the 360 got $100 cheaper you would see much, much more action than that. Just wait until late November and you will see what I mean.

Here's a great idea for microsoft - why not let Don Matrick (peter moore's replacement) be the keynote speaker for TGS.

Makes perfect sense to me and all the other industry movers-n-shakers. think about it - would be great for MS to have their new xbox chief make his public debut to the world by being the keynote at TGS.

he would be more awesome of a speaker then kaz hirai for sure and he can highlight the exclusive 360 japan produced titles like AC4, lost odyssey, katamari damacy along with DMC4 and RE5!!

TGS was always better than E3, but now it should be leagues ahead

It will probably be much more interesting this year, especially if Suda 51 makes many showings
