We've playedLittleBigPlanettwice and are waiting for its Spring 2008 release to get unlimited time with the final game. Even as a casual game, there have been rumblings between Joystiq writers that this could be a killer PS3 app. GameTrailers shows LittleBigPlanet level construction in a new interview with one of its developers, Alex Evans.
Here's hoping that this quirky little game makes a big impact. See the video after the break.
It is a 2D platformer with a level editor. It has great graphics and smooth animations. The physics engine looks great, but remember this is 2D physics. It has co-op.
In the end, it is still a 2D platformer, no matter how many layers are added onto it. Most people don't like playing this kind of game. Most people don't like making levels. While the game looks great, I think it is aimed at a small segment of a small PS3 userbase. I really have a hard time seeing it sell a million.
This game is before its time. It could have a Katamari impact on a 40 million plus userbase and do well. But selling to what will be about 10 million PS3 owners is suicide for a game like this. Perhaps there are enough blu-ray enthusiasts (casual gamers on PS3) and people who really like different stuff to buy this game. I just don't really see it happening.
Is it really infinite depth? You can make unique levels. But, does the gameplay really differ that much? Or, are many of the "custom" differences between levels as trivial as a paint job? We shall see.
I don't think anything really has "infinite" depth. Those are just buzz words to say "you can make stuff."
That said, I expect the depth to be similar to Lode Runner, in that the core game mechanics allow you to make levels that are more than the sum of their parts. In Lode Runner, despite every level being similar, very small differences can lead to dramatic differences in gameplay.
"The Wii could handle a game like this. Maybe not in the manner you would like..."
lol you got that straight.
"Elebits on the Wii was a perfect example of how users can share levels that they've created. And the physics in Elebits was pretty good from what I've heard."
notice i used the words "probably wouldnt be any online features". how many Wii games have proper online gameplay so far? as in, 4 player co-op online? yes thats right. and if you're trying to say Elebits physics = LittleBigPlanet physics, you are deluding yourself. Wii cant handle LBP physics, end of discussion.
"And finally the Wii is capable of 480p....get it right."
and how many available Wii games actually support 480p so far? two? three? thats right. besides, 480p and 480i are virtually the same resolution. only difference is, 480p has a clearer look.
you keep bringin' it on, Curmeo will keep knockin' you down!
Curmeo I thought you weren't going to respond to me anymore?
Idiot.
As for Wii and 480p there are lots of games that support 480p. Not all of them do just like NOT ALL ps3 games support 1080i or 1080p. Ignorance is bliss huh?
I've already said that Nintendo's online isn't anywhere as good as Live. That being said however I think Online in its current form would suffice for a game like this. You may not think so but thats your opinion dumbass.
Again this isn't about right or wrong. Its about your hypocrisy. Your hatred for the Wii doesn't allow you to admit that this game is a game you would call a "kiddie game" IF it were on ANY OTHER system other than the fony ps3.
it will be a shame if this doesn't sell well, just like psychonauts or beyond good and evil, or okami because that'll be the kiss of death and i would much rather have a game like this than 80% of what's out there.
"Curmeo I thought you weren't going to respond to me anymore?"
hey, i just couldnt pass up the opportunity!
"As for Wii and 480p there are lots of games that support 480p. Not all of them do just like NOT ALL ps3 games support 1080i or 1080p. Ignorance is bliss huh?"
yeah, like 2 or 3 available Wii games. way to spin words around to make Wii look better than it really is! and unlike you, i never claimed lots of PS3 games support native 1080p. we all know PS3/360 games are required to be atleast 720p and 720p blows 480i/p outta' the water, monkey!
"I've already said that Nintendo's online isn't anywhere as good as Live. That being said however I think Online in its current form would suffice for a game like this. You may not think so but thats your opinion dumbass."
lol nice try. so online in its current form means lack of 4 player online co-op right. yeah, nice arguement!
"Again this isn't about right or wrong. Its about your hypocrisy. Your hatred for the Wii doesn't allow you to admit that this game is a game you would call a "kiddie game" IF it were on ANY OTHER system other than the fony ps3."
really? LBP is a kiddie game on the PS3. there, i said it!
face it bubba, Curmeo keeps waisting your ass every time you try argueing!
No you're just a liar and a pathetic excuse for a person.
The Wii has more than 3 to 4 games that support 480p. Its your own problem if you don't know about them. I never said that YOU said the ps3 has all games that support 1080i or 1080p. I was simply making a POINT. Which is that NOT every game on EVERY system supports its highest resolution.
Do you understand that? Is it thru you dense skull?
Finally I'm glad you admit its a kiddie game for the ps3 as well.
Trolls like you are beyond ridiculous. We get rid of Jack and then you show up.
I've said it before. 480p is supported on the vast majority (if not all) Wii games, and i also have misgivings about how well this game is going to sell
Viva Pinata could've been a breakout hit, it could've even become a pop-culture phenomenon (it had a TV show, after all), but it flopped. A game like this could've become huge on the PS1 or PS2, as they had mindshare as "family" consoles. The way the PS3 is going, even within the userbase it has, this game probably isn't going to be popular
But i might be surprised, Sony could pull off something interesting with this
