Ubisoft has officially announced a sequel to 2004's tropical and somewhat topical first-person shooter, Far Cry. Praised for its luscious visuals, large environments and merciless pig slaughter, the PC game eventually made its way to consoles in confusingly titled spin-offs such as Far Cry Instincts Predator and Far Cry Instincts Evolution. We think there may be some colons in there too.
Simply entitled Far Cry 2, the new addition to the franchise is being developed for PC by Ubisoft's Montreal studio (original developer Crytek is currently pouring tears into Crysis) and is scheduled for a Spring 2008 release on PC. Aside from the above logo, apparently dragged behind Ubisoft's car before it was uploaded, no further images relating to the sequel have surfaced. Expect loads of jungles, obnoxious henchman and distant weeping.

Cue somebody posting "cue...etc etc etc" in an attempt to be witty by predicting a possibility based on internet stereotypes.

My god, all those mercenaries in the original were so annoying, horrible taunts and voices, they served more as comedic relief than a real threat to me.

ha ha, that's for sure. "Hey you, in the shirt!" and "I'm gonna shoot you in the face!" were a couple of my favorites. oh yeah, and who could forget "Die! Die! Die!"

Out of all the games that the different UbiSoft has developed, you chose Rayman Raving Rabbids as your favorite?
You need to play these games immediately:
GRAW 2
Spliter Cell (any of them)
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Beyond Good & Evil
Prince of Perisa: The Sands of Time
Rayman 2
...and of course FarCry.

Perhaps Screw Attack being in Uwe Boll's Far Cry movie will land him the movie rights for the sequel.

Cue the meta-humor!
Farcry was cool, hopefully this will be too, but I'm getting sick of all these FPS's, a genre I never really liked to begin with.

Ubisoft didn't develop Far Cry, they published it.
CryTek doesn't have the rights, Ubi does, so Crysis is an entirely new universe. Far Cry still exists, but in name only. Same lame characters, same lame plot, none of the goodness behind it.

It's probably just going to use CryEngine 2. At least I hope it is. How can you make a FarCry game without the CryEngine? ... it's almost unthinkable that Ubisoft Montreal is doing it instead of CryTek.
But this article is wrong. There may not be officially released screenshots of the game, but lots of art was leaked for this game, along with art for Prince of Persia 4. Google it.

"I'm gonna get you!" "You're dead, buddy!"
Yeesh those voices were horrible.
Also let's see if the wii port of this can beat out the first one for "fastest wii game to end up in the bargain bin for 10% of its original cost"

First: I would like to say: FarCry in its xbox/xbox360 incarnations were appalling.
Secondly: FarCry for the PC was simply amazing.
Hopefully, ubi will learn from their mistakes. They ruined a great opportunity for this IP on m$ consoles. Question is...is it too late?

Anytime you see "isn't being made by the original developers, but being handled by..." immediately drop all interest in the title. How many times have we seen this same scenario, gotten suckered into it, and then gotten disappointed?
Call of Duty 3 is a great example. Katamari post-the original creator leaving? Just go to any gaming forum and look for the millions of posts from people saying "yeah, well it wasn't made by the original team, so that's why it sucks" to many sequels or spin-offs that bombed.
So in closing- CRYSIS IS FARCRY2.

This may be the official announcement, but it was definitely confirmed several months ago when someone at Ubi put that huge file of promotional art up on the public ftp. It included tons of concept art and renders for Far Cry 2, as well as countless other (some unannounced) Ubi Soft games.

u know, the reason crytek is making crysis is because they CANT make farcry 2. Otherwise they would indeed of made it. The fact that this game was just announced, and is intended for release in a mere 9 or so months, AND around the same time as crysis, makes me think that ubi soft is just trying to steal sales away from crysis. Im a huge fan of farcry pc. I still remember buying it the day it came out. I think most fans are smart enought to know that the true continued experience lies with crysis, and not farcry 2 from ubi soft.

I hope this time they made a good job, the first Far Cry is an excelent game, and i like it better than
Half Life 2, but the console version is just piece of crap, crytek really did a nice job beeing the first game developed by the company, but i dont know how many people will be really interested in this game because when Crysis comes out, it will be the best graphics jungle experience ever.......
Sorry for my english guys......
