its a shame unreal tournament games blow chunks. Super fast paced random noob rocket action. How boring. This will never change. I love the unreal engine, but cant stand those unreal games.

Because you've played it, right? After all, I'm sure a TON of FPS games feature the ability to snag a passing 4x4 witha tetherline so you can hoverboard across the map back to the action. Or needing to coordinate the teamwork needed to do well on Onslaught. And of course, let's not forget the mod I'm working on, the ability to run and start flying like an angel.... but because that's what my mod will be... an angel. A dark, horrifying angel (a fallen Seraph if you will) but an angel nonetheless.

Oh wait, this doesn't have the game mode shotty snipers... PHAIL.

Mark Rein has also stated that the 360 version could very well see MODs as well. Big deal about cross-platform play been using it on Shadowrun and I can't say it adds to the experience at all.

For that to happen, Microsoft needs to open up the hard drives. I don't see them doing any such thing anytime soon. But they'll be more than happy to charge you for mods.

It doesn't add experience yet but cross platform play will be good eventually...Second Epic has to go thru Micro soft to make it PC compatible regardless of the fact plus PS3 users would be at a huge disadvantage since FPS's don't really control that well on the dual shock. Anyway its gonna be a good game so Im glad PS3 guys are getting a quality FPS but on the 360 side this is just another shooter

The PS3, I am assuming, could allow people to play with a keyboard and mouse.

yeah, it's bad enough on the PC end with people crying about alleged hacks and exploits. We totally don't need people going around crying "ZOMG U HAVE CONSOLE AUTOAIM NOOB" every time they get nailed by somebody better than them (console or PC).

PC gamers don't windows live. They're used to better free services.

Free mods on the PS3 sounds exciting though, especially if they let you use mouse/keyboard. This could replace my PC fps gaming.

RTCW > Unreal btw though.

Wait, wait, hold the phone, if I buy it for PS3, I can play MODS and not just user created maps? That might sway my dollars from 360 (which I was going to buy it for, for live support) to the PS3. User created maps and mods are what makes Unreal Tournament games the greatest multiplayer experience to be had on any platform (IMO).

I just hope the framerate on the PS3/360 is good. If I have to spend hundreds of dollars on an 8800GTS just so I can get a good framerate, I'll be pissed. The game is a surefire excellent game, no doubt about it, but those graphics...wow....if a console can handle them at full, I'll cry tears of joy.

Fortunately, you are in luck.

The PS3 version of UT3 runs better than Gears Of War did on the 360, confirmed by Mark Rein.

Yes, you can supposedly share *mods* between the PC and PS3. Unless something's gotten lost in translation somewhere (though we are all speaking English), but that is what's been reported everywhere I've seen.

That's pretty sweet if true. I don't think that's ever been done before.

The PS3 should also support a standard USB mouse and keyboard for gameplay, if you want to play that way.

"I just hope the framerate on the PS3/360 is good."

Well, Resistance multiplayer basically never drops below 60fps that I've ever seen, even with 32 players on a map. And that was a launch title. I doubt UT's going to have much of a problem.

If I owned a PS3 the the reason I would get Unreal 3 on PS3 rather than 360 is not even about the user created mods, pc versus ps3 owners online play, or even use of KB+M.

Its the use of servers for online play. Seriously, its the one thing that PS3 online games simply outclass 360 games online for....lack of lag. PLaying resiatnce online and motostorm I realised just how insanely bad the host advantage was on Gears Of war ( A great game nonetheless) I understnad the issues with companies running servers letting them take it down when they wish, but lag is so much less on PS3 games online its not comparable, that if you get lag at all. When I first played a 20 vs 20 game on resistance at a friends house I was blown away by the fact I was not getting any lag at all. And if EPIC staff do not have better online coding for Unreal Tournmanet 3 I simply will not get it untill it hits the used market for 360, or when the PS3 gets a price drop in the UK.

Because from a long time gears of war player, the difference from hosting and not is insane, and if EPIC devs have not learned enough about coding online games for console hosting then we will have to fall out over it.

Why play any FPS on a console when you can play it on a PC?
Consoles simply suck at FPS games. GOW? Resistance? No thanks....they both had clunky controls.
What version of Rainbow 6 Vegas was the best? 360? PS3? Neither! PC version all the way.
Why play a dumbed down console game when you can have full control over every little detail in PC games!

I couldn't agree more. To this day, I have no idea why Sony wouldn't make mouse/keyboard game control as an option for all of the Playstation's games. So far, UT3 is the only one that will have it.

However, I DO understand why Micro$oft doesn't make 360's with mouse / keyboard play; because it would compete too much with Games for Windows.

Seems to me that the first console to have true mouse/keyboard play will be the one to really take a HUGE chunk out of PC gaming.

I'm actually glad that they are not including support for GFWL because I think Microsoft has handled the implementation horribly. Don't get me wrong, I like Microsoft and the 360 (though I do not own one) but I really don't like GFWL because it forces PC players to pay money for what we have always had for free (In-game VOIP). I could care less about the accomplishments.

I really hope Steam Communities really takes off and shows Microsoft what can be done on the PC.

the PS3 version of UT3 is lookin' better and better every time. if the developers manage to pull off PS3 vs PC online gaming, PS3 version will have another advantage over the 360 version, aside from the mods sharing and keyboard/mouse support.

i bet load times will be better as well, via HDD game cache, although 360 version will prolly have slightly better graphics/performance.

anyhow, good news for PS3 owners.

How can they be not sure if people want cross platform? Of course we want it!

I think the reason why this game is not using games for windows live is because they don't like how Microsoft tries to charge PC gamers like they do with console gamers. The PC gamers are just not used to such treatment.

Isn't this just inviting people to write cheat code for the PS3?

Surely if it can load a mod, it can load cheats?

Best news in a while. I don't know one PC Gamer that wants their mouse and keyboard controls gimped to "even" the playing field for thumbstick users. UT3 is a twitch shooter, not a run and gun. They are going to have to implement crazy auto aim for the controller, not to mention, more liberal hit boxes.

Exactly. UT is the least controller friendly shooter there is. If it went with GFW like Shadowrun, it would be dumbed down, and aiming would be taken out of the game. Honestly, let 360 players play by themselves, I don't see this game being fun with a controller at all. You don't float in air forever like Halo, there's no auto aim, and your characters move 5 times as fast as master chief. Good luck :P

I could care less about ps3 vs. pc play, just leave the PC version as it should be, not watered down.

Live is another monopolistic strategy of microsoft.

I am HAPPY that the PC version won't have any Games for Windows B.S. - PC gamers should know by now that all that will bring is xbox360-like microtranactions for things that should be free anyways - to the PC!!

Now, I have a 360 and love it, but the PC has always been and always should have a more laissez-fair atmosphere.
