Martha Stewart makes an edible Wii
We're not sure if this is a good thing, per se, but the August issue of Wired magazine features a "Martha Stewart blowout" (never thought we'd write those words in the same sentence) with the queen of gracious living giving tips on a number of geek-related topics.
In the spotlight: Martha shows us how to bake a Wii cake. Sounds ... yummy? Who cares, it's cake, and it looks like a Wii. We'll eat it. Hopefully another magazine will catch on to this trend and get Christopher Lowell to show us how to make a Wii-shaped entrance to our verandah.

how come the Wired site doesn't show this yet? anyway, Martha looks friendly enough on the cover, but her voice scares me, she's a clone I tell you
Denji @ Jul 21st 2007 11:00AM
Wired is nice enough to give actual subscribers to the magazine a jump start on their articles before posting it on the Internet.
laserboyjc @ Jul 21st 2007 10:34AM
if that's the scale of the Wii, I would love to see how big she makes a 360 or PS3 cake, better yet, make the Duke controller, you could feed a dozen families
whosmav @ Jul 21st 2007 10:34AM
What the hell is this crap? What does she know about videogames? Did she learn this stuff in the clink?
whosmav @ Jul 21st 2007 3:19PM
Hey come one ya'll don't be hatin'!
James S. @ Jul 21st 2007 10:45AM
I actually saw this at Barnes & Noble yesterday. My first thought was "What the hell?!" and my second thought was, "I better pick that up so I can make one myself." Pretty cool.
REUYL @ Jul 21st 2007 10:58AM
See? The Wii attracts non-cooks too!
Curmeo @ Jul 21st 2007 10:44AM
this cake prolly also got last gen ingredients ;)
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Jul 21st 2007 10:51AM
Just two Gamecube cupcakes duct-taped together, amirite?
unosturgis @ Jul 21st 2007 10:44AM
Does her frosting bag have built-in waggle controls?
Gamehiker @ Jul 21st 2007 11:46AM
Saw this yesterday at my work's breakroom.
Unfortunately the article said that since you don't use baking soda in it, the Wii Cake is pretty much inedible.
Kennie @ Jul 21st 2007 10:56AM
I hope she makes a PS3 cake to go with that. Mmm, liquorish ...
Tim @ Jul 21st 2007 10:57AM
Does it taste like Wii?
whosmav @ Jul 21st 2007 10:57AM
Is the tech hero Jim Gray? I wonder what happened to that guy. He was a smart dude.(understatement) Thanks for ATM machines Jim.
REUYL @ Jul 21st 2007 10:57AM
Heh, I'd let Martha...
...Eh, nevermind.
vidGuy @ Jul 21st 2007 10:58AM
"We'll eat it."
I wouldn't. The "article", which for the Wii cake is really just a small column, ends by saying DO NOT EAT! Apparently to get the "cake" to stand that way they had to remove baking soda from the ingredients, making it taste "like old Atari cartridges", according to the magazine.
Anyway, why wouldn't this be a good thing for the Wii? More mainstream coverage is ALWAYS a good thing.
sheppy @ Jul 21st 2007 10:59AM
Something about Marthas face makes me want to rake a fork across her cheek, slowly digging away to get to the chocolaty center...
Kye @ Jul 21st 2007 1:52PM
?!
josh @ Jul 26th 2007 2:27PM
martha's everywhere, even on joystiq.. watch what you say about her, her fans will frost your asshole shut and and tie a seafoam green bow around your penis until it shrivels off.

Martez @ Jul 21st 2007 11:17AM
Sweet, I just got this in the mail. I love the How To issues.
Rob Accomando @ Jul 21st 2007 11:38AM
big deal. You use a rectangle cake pan and white icing. Do we really need a "how to" from Martha? More free advertising for Nintendo. (or is it?)
Brian @ Jul 21st 2007 11:47AM
I saw this in Barnes and Noble and wanted to punch the magazine.
Judd @ Jul 21st 2007 12:05PM
James S.-How very strange, I also saw this article at Barnes and Noble yesterday! There for the midnight Harry Potter launch as well? It would be crazy if you were also at the Barnes and Noble in Morris Plains, New Jersey.
Anyway, that magazine actually has a bunch of interesting game related articles. This issue had tips for Guitar Hero and there was a "How To" beat the third level in Donkey Kong. There was also an interesting article about how people are spending millions on Second Life advertising, when in reality nobody is there.
Aberu @ Jul 21st 2007 1:50PM
Hopefully she has an article on performin unethical business and stock practices? I need help with that more IMO. How about an article, "Going to jail, deserving it, still having a career and being paraded around as a good person, and LOVING IT!"
sectionz @ Jul 21st 2007 4:45PM
ouch .. take that hardcore gamers! .. i am so glad i sold my wii before it was associated with that x-con. wow .. what the fuck has happened here?
Gross Greg @ Jul 21st 2007 2:43PM
The Wii cake is just two Gamecube cakes iced together!
Gross Greg @ Jul 21st 2007 2:43PM
BTW 1up for Martha Stewart!
Gambit @ Jul 21st 2007 4:14PM
Wii cake. It's a good thing.
Stephen @ Jul 21st 2007 5:15PM
Things like this will kill the Wii.
nick @ Jul 21st 2007 5:34PM
The Wii just became totally uncool.
big @ Jul 21st 2007 9:39PM
I'd Hit it....woot
razer @ Jul 22nd 2007 1:01AM
I bet eating that cake will be 100X for fun than playing the Wii that's for sure!
Why does a Wii and grandma Stewart seem perfect together? Old and out of date a match made in heaven.
ok, I'll shut up...
Allen @ Jul 22nd 2007 2:03AM
Patent infringement. Martha's goin back to jail!
Jim @ Jul 22nd 2007 7:39PM
Man, Does Wired magazine really write about the lame things on the left side? SHOCKING.
Cap'n Jack @ Jul 23rd 2007 9:48AM
It's frightening. Ugly gorilla! Go away!
doomcloud @ Jul 23rd 2007 10:01AM
*whew* as long as there is a martha stewart forum, i cant be too pathetic posting comments here. ...right?
Moonark @ Jul 26th 2007 12:05PM
First of all she is probably the worst cook in the world. if what the actual artical says is true that they had to remove baking soda from the ingredients, making it taste "like old Atari cartridges" then she is a worthless piece of crap
the team from the Food network show "ace of cakes" make more elaborate cakes that are actual edible. Makeing her a worthless hack cook.
and second they must of had a artist air brush the crap out of that ugly hag for at least 10 hours to make her skin look that young.....she doesnt even look human in the picture
DigiChan @ Jul 26th 2007 12:53PM
Wow. Sounds cool and yet weird at the same time..Martha Stewart+Wii=WTF. o_o O_o And why bragg about a cake you can't eat!?o__o Thats just wrong. Anyways if thats how big it is in scale, Lets see her try baking a cake of an x-box or ps3 xD; I agree that this kills the Wii and any hopes I had that Nintendo would get back on track. :\ Is this for free advertising?I swear people will sell their foreheads for advertising...Good job Martha if only it was Edible! :(
HawkPunk7 @ Jul 26th 2007 2:05PM
Personally I like Martha Steward. It refreshing to see that Wired has a sense of Humor and that is "a good thing." I used to watch her religiously back in the old days when I owned a TV. Also subscribed to Martha Steward Living until she gave up the ultra personal perspective in it and turned turned it over to subordinates. She is the perfect "Stepford Wife" and I would marry her in an instant. She is a self created entity and basically lives by your site's tagline. It was a joy to discover that she is not above a bit of Larceny, using "game cheats" on her excursion into the mega online game of Wall Street. Wired could learn a thing or two from Martha, such as making their "rag" readiable by not using deep hued backgrounds on their pages. Speaking of rag, I'm the one who started the rumour that she makes her own Tampoms. Immature and tasteless, I know, but probably accurate. BTW. its a pleasure to discover your site. No swag or junkettes-now that is a "good thing."

Yea, the whole baking soda thing is a load of bull sh!t my mom makes wedding cakes and all you have to do is add some support on the inside of the cake, like a plastic rod, then you just eat around it, martha is a dirty ho bag who licked muff in the clink, down with the wh#re!
Jim @ Jul 26th 2007 3:54PM
Ok now Xbox and ps3 owners, shut the hell up. The Wii is 100x better and more fun than your systems, get over it. It sells better, it advertises better, it's proof that Nintendo has in fact gotten back on track, and its MORE POPULAR than what you sit on your ass and play while developing blood clots in your thighs. Owned. And give Martha a break, geez.
marc @ Jul 26th 2007 9:50PM
martha, wut the hell, ur such a geek that u had to go ahead and make a wii cake, and best of all, u didnt make it so u can eat it,. u must suck more than i thought at cooking.
