EA: Wing Commander Arena on XBLA this week for 800 points
13
Though Microsoft hasn't confirmed the identity of this Wednesday's Xbox Live Arcade title, that hasn't stopped EA from telling Xbox 360 Fanboy that Wing Commander Arena – their arcadey space shooter that borrows the classic IP – will be available on the 25th for 800 points ($10). Longing for Mark Hamill-infused FMV cutscenes? You won't find any of that here, you'll need to tap GameTap for that sort of thing. If you're still not sure what to expect out of WCA and simply can't wait another three days for the demo to drop, then flip through the hefty manual and see if that gives you Kilrathi-scratch fever.

Needs a 3rd dimension. Fighting on only 2 planes really ruins the potential this could have for XBLA. I imagine I'll still pick it up though.

It's a nice hope that this will lead to a new Wing Commander series, but personally, I think all that success will lead to is more cheap top-down games, not a rebirth of that franchise.
Part of me thinks it would be good to see the return of one of the older franchises, another part of me thinks 'So it's not just the Film industry that can't stop digging up the past for the sake of profit.'
Still deciding.

If it wasnt called wing commander, no one would care... and because it is called wing commander, there is a bunch of huff over it not being a simulator.
Personally, I think its going to be a ton of fun, but with few players to play with... kind of like Shadowrun.
But my xbox 360 finally died, so I wont be able to get it for a while.

Played this on Partnernet. It's awful.
I liken it to a large, flat, Wolfenstein 3-D arena with minimal obstacles and weapons scattered all over the place. It's not very interesting because there is no dimension, save for the canned "dodging" move that makes your ship move up and down beyond your control.
A waste of a great license and a great genre. What, are people too stupid to handle three-dimensional flight controls these days?

I think I will pick this up when it comes out. Sure, its not the original WC, but it might be fun on its own right.

Again, this game and that other XBLA Battlestar game are beaten by fans:

*sigh* I look at this game and think "What's the reason they couldn't just port the original WC to XBLA?" Is there that many people dying to play crappy watered down versions of titles we love?

This has nothing to do with the Wing Commander series.
