Burnout heading to your mobile phone at top speed
Please be advised that it's unwise to use your phone while driving. Or playing video games on your phone while driving. Or playing video games about maniacally wrecking cars while driving. That said, Electronic Arts is bringing its popular racer Burnout to mobile phones. The game is being developed by EA Mobile's studio in Chertsey, UK and according to the press release is expected to crash land in August for "all major [phone] operators." And by "not necessarily indicative of the final product," you of course mean, "not even close to the final product, as mobile phone games look like my ass."

I feel so sorry for your tiny pixelated ass.

It would seem that racing games might have a decent chance on mobiles (vs. other genres) due to their small number of controls. Of course, if the game forces you to use the the phone's d-pad, it's going to suck.
If they want a game to work, they should mandate the quitting of all other programs so as to maximize performance. If people want to be able to access other apps, they're not going to want to play a racing game; let them play solitaire if they are between photo snaps. It would be cool to see a mobile game that was committed to being the sole object of your attention while you played it.
To take it to the extreme, maybe they could even turn off the cellular/bluetooth radios! But then why would you want the phone? But in all seriousness, the screens are getting prettier all the time on these phones (my father's new blackberry, as much as I hate it on principal, has a gorgeous glossy screen), so why not try to make a decent full-fledged game?

burnout is superb on the psp:

and pathetic on the ds:

I'm curious how it will be on a mobile phone.

I love the burnout series it's one of my favorite game franchises. That being said I don't think I would want it on my cell phone because like "Jerk Face" said cell phone games look like crap. There are a few that are good but they don't really rely on graphics so much as Burnout does. I have both burnout games on my PSP and they look great but the one on the DS looks horrible, so I'm sure a cell phone version will look even worst.

Pssssst....you don't have to make a news article every time some game gets a piece of **** cell port. Nobody plays 'em.

So, Cellphones are in but Wii is out? Next they'll announce an enhanced version for N-Gage. This reminds me of the trials and tribulations of Tomb Raider on Nintendo consoles.

No joke, since it seems to me that it won't be a Windows Mobile title (which, um is what the BlackJack runs), and would instead be something that gets released on the BREW platform (GetItNow, RightHereRightNow, EasyEdge, etc.), which makes for a wide audience, but in all honesty the only game I've seen released through Qualcomm's distribution platform that didn't suck was Tetris Tournament, and even that's a stretch.
