What does XMB mean?

And this is nothing against sony but these constant firmware updates confuse me. But I guess its because I'm not into technology like that. But all this stuff about choosing upscaling, settings, etc. It just seems really confusing to me...

Do all ps3 know what this shit means?

I meant to ask do all ps3 owners know what this means? I just don't see the average consumer understanding the machine and its nuances.

Since console updates are manditory if your connected to the web the end user doesn't need to know what it means. They will see the differences if they look for them, if not they won't care.

XMB updates are not a selling point, don't try to make it out to be that.

I wasn't necessarily trying to make it a selling point.

I'm just saying that from my POV the ps3 looks like its way too complicated to understand and work with if you truly want to get everything you possibly can out it.

And yeah that might turn off some people who were interested.

Really I don't care since the ps3 isn't seeling that well anyways. I was more curious as to what XMB meant and all the other technical jargon. But really its not that serious so I'll just leave it at that and go play some Mario Party 8.

The only thing on there that can be taken as confusing is the force 24mhz and the audio channels....everything else is self explanitory.

It's pretty mild, actually - it's the same for the 360 and even the Wii. One day you turn the machine on, and if you're connected to the internet, a dialog comes up that says "A new firmware update is available. You will be if you choose to not update."

The PS3 makes you re-pair the controller via a USB cable, however... Not exactly convenient, but I can handle it. Most of the time.

This is pretty good its a step in the right direction but im with the other guy doing updates like every month is confusing to customers i understand but some dont have a clue.
Anyway they still need to add a unifyed friends list, messageing in game, music in game and alot more but i still say do the update every 6 months like MS and include more.

I think it's nice, when new features are added, but do you get info on what has changed when a new firmware is implemented?
I mean, you can do a lot of stuff that's not in the manual. How are you supposed to know what features were added?
I wonder what firmware version there will be when I buy mine (in Japan).

After you download the update and BEFORE you install it, there is a list of all of the enhancements and added features.

He refers to the custom backgrounds I believe. On the Xbox360 you can have an image from a flash drive/computer as the background on the four orignal blades(marketplace blade still is themed independently).

I do however wonder what is taking them so long to add custom music in game. I mean its been a since Day 1 feature of Xbox360 even if you needed to restart the music when you went into a game at first you could still do that. Sony was originally going to launch last Spring and then delayed for about half a year so why in all that time before and after launch have they not added that feature yet?

M$ needs to add a certain feature to the 360 that Sony had already installed on the PS3. A working console. NOW THAT"S A FEATURE!!!

*Turns on LAUNCH 360* Yup its working and so far has never needed repair. Seriously $ony fanboys when the only thing you can attack the other console is its sadly high RRoD rate(that Microsoft pays for the repairs for you inside the 3 YEAR warrenty) it shows that company made a good product and the company cares for their consumers. Also you act like every 360 fails, they don't.

They are posts that got voted down to irrelevance. I wish they could be voted down to nothing but a message that said:

"My original post got PWND!"

LOL it is spelled "warranty", and I went through a couple 360s, and switched after the second one broke. I’m no fanboy, just pissed at M$. Fanboys, or better yet, fangirls are the ones that get all bent out of shape, when someone comments on their piece of crap, broken-down (or soon to be) console.

Good add-ons, I like how Sony seems to constantly try to improve user customized environments on its platform. However, have Sony ever addressed the situation with the Bluetooth controllers randomly crapping out for a few seconds? Being primarily an RPG player(never had a PS2 so I'm enjoying the shit out of its library, most of which can be had for a song) the Bluetooth thing is irksome, but I can imagine wanting to fling the controller through a window if the controller dropout were to happen during a hot and heavy action game boss fight or something.

Well, that was an annoying scroll.

And no, the bluetooth thing has not been fixed. It kept cutting out on me about once every 3-4 SuperStardust HD games, so I only play that game with the USB cable connection.
