The flag on Guile's arm is reversed. Is that some sort of symbol of anarchy? Is Guile a "Rage Against the Machine" fan? Say it ain't so!!!

i think i remember reading that it has something to do with sprites in the original ... they just reversed his arm for the opposite sprite so the flag appears backwards on one of his arms. i think they are keeping it that way for nostalgia's sake

You win with Guile without blocking.

You win with Ryu/Ken without using the fireball.

Those are pretty tough, IMO.

The flag on Guile's Left Arm is reversed. The American flag should be worn on the arm of a uniform with the blue field toward the front of the body (towards the chest). This is because to wear it with the blue field toward the back of the body is to imply that the wind is coming from that direction because the soldier is moving backwards in retreat.

THIS IS AN ACTUAL MILITARY UNIFORM REGULATION. (Army Regulation 670-1) To display the American flag in this manner can be taken as insulting to our military.

I understand that this is a video game and also that Guile's haircut would be regarded as seriously out of regulation. (No outlandish hairstyles or excessive styling products). I understand that the artists are from Japan and not America and also may not be aware of these regulations. I'm sure that this graphical error was made without malice. But would you want to see Capcom on Fox News for this misunderstanding? I sure wouldn't.

eric1101.. get a grip dude. Its as simple as they reversed the polygons on the other side. Don't go Full Metal Jacket on us bro. And Capcom ending up on Fox News for something like this wouldn't be surprising anyway, as right-wing, conservative, and sensational as they clearly are... as opposed to featuring real news... but I'm sure you're glued to it. I'm sure you also still think there are WMDs in Iraq...

To T H:

What polygons? The game is sprite based. Plus if all they did was reverse the sprite for the other side, it would still be wrong.

Also, I dont think I need to be told to get a grip. Just because I defend the proper way to display the flag doesn't mean I'm some right wing militia psycho. I take offense to the implication that I may go "Full Metal Jacket"

Plus I used Fox News as an extreme example of right wing reactioinary media. I'm not glued to it. My media of choice is the San Francisco Chronicle (sfgate.com). That's about as left-leaning a media outlet as you are going to find.

Plus I don't think there are or ever were WMDs in Iraq.

Is that what your initial reaction was to my post? Because I believe that servicemen and women should be given some respect you immediately peg me as a warhawk?

I may have overreacted in my initial reply.. but I dont think it's an issue of disrespect towards soldiers at all.. some of whom themselves BLATANTLY disrespeft our flag and all that it's supposed to stand for. I think they simply are trying to stay faithful to the old game. Your comments initally came off to me as very overly conservative, flammatory, and ignorant- but maybe I interpreted them wrong.

And I meant to refer to the Guile sprite, not polygons, my bad.

As for an achievement.. hmm..

"QuickDraw" - fire off 5 fireballs faster than Sagat.

He ALWAYS kicked my ass when it came to trading fireballs with Ken or Ryu in SF II Turbo..

I was not talking about those guys... Eff them. I understand that simply serving in the military does not make you a good person. Plenty of bastards have worn uniforms. I'm saying that respect should be given to those who serve in the military with honor.

"Your comments initally came off to me as very overly conservative, flammatory, and ignorant"

I don't think that I was being overly conservative. Many liberals agree that the troops should be supported.

I don't think I was being inflammatory since I ended my original post with the admission that I believe the errors were unintentional.

I dont think I was being ignorant. Being ignorant means that I was uninformed. But I cited sources to back up my original case.

My original case was that the orientation of the Flag on Guile's shoulder is incorrect according to military regulations and should be corrected.

I believe Capcom should correct this because while it may not matter to everyone how the flag is displayed, it does matter to many.

I want them to do this because I don't want Capcom to catch any flak over an easily corrected mistake. After all, we all want the best Street Fighter possible, a Street Fighter we can all be proud of. Right?

(A really ignorant thing to say would have been, "If Capcom duznt fix the flag, then the terrrorists win!")

The sprites were low res originally, but they are changing them. Capcom is trying to make the graphics better, why not fix a mistake while they are at it. They've come this far, they can go one step further.

To Eric1101: They actually can't fix this. The game is actually the original code, just with different artwork being referenced by it. The company they hired for the coding was hired because they're known for transferring 2D game code to current-gen consoles (ala the Capcom Classics Collection games). The original code called for the one sprite getting flipped, do technically the art is fine (well, okay, maybe not), but the code makes the error occur.

Not if they want to keep all the original code exactly as-is, and that's what they're doing. Technically, yes, they could (as evidenced by some recent announcements for the Puzzle Fighter HD remix they're doing and the fact that this game is online), but that's really not the point of this. Furthermore, it would be helpful to back up your opinion in the future instead of simply contradicting posts. For all I know, you're a lot more involved in the world of video game programming than I am. All my information comes from an interview/self-intro thing on a blog for the game put up by Capcom, found here: http://blogs.capcomusa.com/blogs/digital.php/2007/06/06/p312#more312 .

Apparently there is some confusion about what I am saying should be changed. I am not talking about changing the underlying code of the game. I am not talking about changing the hitboxes, or moves. I am talking about changing the artwork in the sprite. Something they are already doing. Changing the artwork in the sprite does not affect gameplay at all.

I know what you're talking about. I guess I haven't made my point clear, and for that I apologize. What I am saying is this: In the original code, the game only uses the one set of character sprites (standing, punching, etc.). These are all drawn facing one way. When the character is facing the other way, it's the exact same sprite, just mirrored by the code. Another example of this is Sagat's magical moving eyepatch and scar. Facing right, Sagat is missing his left eye. Facing left, his right eye is the one missing. This is how it works for all sprites. So, they either have Guile's iconic tattoo vanish (which if this is what you're suggesting, then yes, that would work, and you really should have mentioned this earlier to avoid people like me), or it faces the wrong way half the time. And considering that all the new sprites are redrawn right off of the originals, the removal isn't too likely. Oh well.

If they make the flag with the blue field toward the chest when Guile is facing right, when they reverse the sprite for when Guile is facing left, the blue field will also reverse and still be toward Guile's chest. I am not talking about having the flag gone on one side or removed altogether. I understand the programming reasons why Sagat's eyepatch switches sides and why DeeJay's pants say "MAXIMUM" (all the letters look the same in a mirror)

I just re-read your original comment. I now understand what you're talking about, with all of this. That having been said, If the US Military actually cared about this, they probably would have asked/gotten them to fix this a long time ago (since it would be a simple fix). I wonder if they did? I'll have to send a couple of emails and ask. Overall, though, for the sake of authenticity, I think they're going to keep it as is. Have you sent them a letter about this? I'm honestly curious.
