Is there really people that type the whole name like this S.T.A.L.K.E.R?.

I just typed STALKER or FEAR.I mean unless you want to be 100% correct but I guess no one really cares.

It does stand for something, which will be revealed in the prequel

and don't they have the "worldwide" version of the game? I do, and the patches work perfectly

STALKER 1.07 patch notes

*Fixed a bug that prevented enemies from displaying correctly. All enemy goombas are now visible.
*Corrected a localization error in German versions of the game. The text "Endgame Boss" has been corrected to is original "Ice Cream Mini Game"
*Balanced several weapons. All weapons now do explosive Area of Effect damage
*Fixed a bug that continuously looped Coldplay music in the background. The music no longer loops, but instead constantly stutters in and out as intended
*Balanced enemy armor: Enemy armor now takes 95% less ddamage from Area of Effect damage.
*Added new particle effects to the game engine. All human models now correctly display dandruff.
*Removed all health items for balance issues.
*Increased damage of all bosses from "high" to "world-ending"
*Replaced the end game cinematic with a politically correct montage of Iraq War Vets receiving medals of honor.
*Fixed a bug that prevented players from shooting while moving. Players may now only shoot while moving.
*Erased all save data so that players may re-experience the game as intended.

The only game that I could not make run on my rig. I patched it and reinstalled it so many times but it ALWAYS crashed to desktop without a error message to help debug why. I gave up and there it sits.. waste of $40. I'm still bitter about it..

Yeah mine crashed a ton too and it's also the only game my rig struggles with (I can run valve titles/FEAR no problem); however, I got that Float32 mod and it works MUCH better now. You can try it, although I hear it or something similar is supposed to be included in the forthcoming patch.

I think game devs hate Germany for some reason.

Lately German Guild Wars players are also on strike as they have been lagging like crazy and losing serious tournaments as a result. Meanwhile the lag is nonexistent in France, UK, Spain, USA, etc...

what gives, internets?

Hum they have already bought the game right? So why should THQ care if they go on strike? "oh what you've bought our game but you are going to stop playing it because you're mad, um OK."

I'm sure a few German players not playing the game after they bought it is really going to hurt THQ, they might have to file for bankruptcy.
