enhh....

looks like a revamped MGS3. Can't complain. But I was expecting a bit more with the upgrade in hardware from PS2 to PS3.

Still hyped tho. Can't wait to actually PLAY it myself.

Yeah, I don't know what all the fuss is about. The graphics REALLY don't seem nearly as good as they should be considering how the games looked on the PS2. And the gameplay is probably going to be just the same as the other MGS's, yet Kojima will be hailed as a genius.

To be honest, wait til you check it out in HD, this video quality is horrid. Aside from that All the MGS's were nothing short of works of art, so thats prob why hes hailed as a genius.

And his art combines a perfect combination of graphics, amazing orchestrated music from none other than harry-gregson williams, and gameplay that has very few rivals.

Uhm, try looking at ANY game that you think looks amazing, and reduce it to a 2" screen size. Smart folks.

Looks ok. How do you know what it will look like in HD when you havent seen it in HD? From first glance on what we have, and this is all we have for now, it looks ok. Not that great. I hope the game play is better than previous MSGs. I hope the PS3 can do better than this. Looks good, but not that impressive.

A lot of people say things like "MGS games are works of art", and that's fine, I just don't agree.

They're definitely GOOD games, there's no dispute there, but why do so many people revere them as gifts from god?

Ok, so the graphics are usually nice. Fine.
The plot is usually "thick" (Read: convoluted and absurd).
The basic mechanics haven't changed much since 1999, and the new mechanics like camouflage, healing and eating are basically minigames that aren't fun.
The cinematics are long and drawn out for pretty much no reason.
Some characters are downright laughable (What, she never realized her suit was magnetic? Not that that's at all possible).
The games are typically really short, especially once you factor out the incredibly overlong cinematics.

Again, I do actually LIKE MGS games, I just really don't get how everyone and their mother thinks they're the best games in the world.

Wow...I'm not sure what it takes to get some of you satisfied with graphics quality. Even with the screen being as small as it is, you can clearly see that the detail, shading and overall quality is simply amazing. Currently I only have a 360 but between MGS4 and GOW3, I'm not sure I could resist getting a PS3.

good thing about it which i think is safe to say that there will be a demo in the near future. There has always been a demo for the MGS console games well before their releases.

I agree with poster #14. What the hell does it take to impress anyone with graphics these days? You all do realize that the jump from 32-bit to 128-bit was especially huge, don't you? And that we won't see that large of step forward in terms of visual quality for at least a decade or more.

PS1-era to PS2-era was the jump from flapping arms and frowny faces to charaters that could actually emote, from manimal paws to articulated fingers, from pixelated blobs to clear textures, from pyramid tits to smooth curves...

It was essentially all the building blocks that good 3-D graphics are made from. Everything from here on out (for a generation or two at least) is going to be incremental. The basics are established, it's the subtleties that are going to be refined now: lighting, reflection, particle effects, etc. So get ready for graphics that aren't necessarily going to wow you unless you can see them larger than a thumbnail view - or are simply too much of a soulless fathead to appreciate fine detail and skillful art direction.

Watched it on another site, looks like the trailers pretty much, only with a real person at the helm. Only Downloaded to the part where snake jumps on the statue thing though, got a bit of a laugh out of that.

WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO!! its amazing. they seriously exceeded my expections. MGS is my favorite series but one thing i havent liked, ever since splinter cell came out, MGS control scheme seemed very stale and out of date. i love the splinter cell series too but the stories were always boring and the games didnt have as much appeal in the long run.

if you watch the whole video, you actually see how there is a splinter cell style aiming system PLUS you can move around now in first person if you want, and you can lean around corners with the sixaxis, so no you dont aim actually with motion, just lean with it.

you can also FINALLY walk around while in a crouch position like splinter cell, and it seems like they combined the control scheme of ghost recon advanced warfighter with splinter cell, but still kept it to a true MGS experience.

i cant wait!!!

@21 kojima has said before that the game is purposely a little fake looking, as the MGS series always has been. one thing i havent noticed tho, is if they ahve the explanation points over there head or question marks.. did anyone see any?

by jerky i assume when they do stuff like switch weapons? how it suddenly appears? i dont really mind that, because MGS games have always been like that, theyw erent always about 100% realism like splinter cell.

Why change a good thing? the gameplay has been the same since mg1 but this has some good stuff added. if anything this is more like halo3 than anything else same gameplay since the series began, better graphics , more abilities, new enviroment, new weapons, bigger badder bosses, and the end of the series. only difference is metal gear solid has a better developed well planned out storyline(i play it mostly for the story it gives me some what of a emotional attachment to it).

What I find funny is that the all the xbots here turn their noses up at the graphics of MGS4 even though it's on a crappy low res video stream and all the while defend Halo 3's sub par graphics (even when playing the beta) and say that graphics aren't everything in a game. "It's the gameplay that counts"...does that sound familiar? Now of course you can't compare the two genre's but you can compare the overall graphics, presentation and polish to games as everyone believes GOW is so far the pinnacle of awesome graphics (I tend to agree btw). That being said, I think...well...I KNOW MGS4's graphics blow Halo's out of the water.

Oh by the way, I also find it funny that these xboys are trying to downplay MGS4...oh wait...unless it comes to the 360. Then it'll be like "aww man those graphics on that crappy video stream look sick!" and "these are the best graphics ev4R!".

Haha...gimme a break you tools and have a little perspective.

graphics look ok, but Gears looks better. Didn't like how the truck was hit by a grenade and "turned black" but not really broken apart. Also, poor AI in some scenes where he shoots PMC soldiers and nearby ones just sat there.

In the beginning, there is a ton of homoerotic imagery. Kojima has always played with this, but more through storyline and symbolism...

Now, it's laid bare, in various animations of Snake's intimations... some of these are so blatantly obvious as to be near undetectable to the untrained eye.

Then, I was thinking, while I'm not blown away (I already knew what to expect, from the previews, even though they were pre-rendered (staying true to the format of graphics and movement in the game)), I must admit there is a fineness here.

The buildings look more solid and three-dimensional than in Resistance or Oblivion. In those games, especially Oblivion, there is a sense of wallpaper pasted to a plane. Here, the buildings felt more... organic... and it's interesting that the developers were able to pull those type of curves, looking closer to tetrahedronal (great word, look it up). There is a sense of moving about, amidst large sculptures. Something about the light, something about the rendering engine, things in the distance just move and change color more subtley and realistically than what has been heretofore demonstrated.

[oh! Though I must say I was sorely disappointed with the camouflage. They can't find a happy medium. If they do it the way they did, the angles of things are changed to fit Snake's physique, and he hardly blends. But if they do a straight transfer, it not only looks fake but you yourself can barely see him. They need some kind of morphology, to get a happy medium, that works with the light... but in real-time? On the game's first release to a new platform? There MUST be a shortcut to this, so you send a fairly good programmer off to himself for a few days to figure it out, and he gives you what he found, then you pick another, and you're constantly dipping from your pool of talent to find the one that might fix this little detail among others which will be crucial to the big picture.]

But let's look at gameplay.

It looked WAY WAAAAAYYY too hard for me. I would definately have a walkthrough beside me at all times. Or just sit and watch someone play it who knows what they're doing (which we sort of just did).

But there was this part in a corridor, as he approached, this dude in foldings of white cloth (desert gear), was getting pummelled by a gun from beyond the wall where we hid, and the smoke and dust coming out were at such a frequency, the particulates so fine, and the framerate so steady (I think there was one noticeable glitch), that for a minute I had this sense of fear, as if I were there, and I was watching the smoke and dust streams they were billowing, from the multiple physical contusions involved, as the bullets shot through the dust and smoke to the wall behind, whence more the smoke and dust...

And then I saw these explosions and fires and the thing is, you could tell the code was very different from code of these things that you've seen before. There was a dynamic to it that was greater. Sure, it was still code, but it had many more facets.

Still... these things can be subtle, and/or lost on the casual viewer.

However, with increased frame rate and a particle and physics system that pumps out volumes of information for the eye and brain and heart to interpret, the more information given, the more the brain can do with it, so I think the animations in here, in game, are one of the better but more subtle steps that are being taken at this time, but it's a... it's an investment. Gramma sees sonny playing Resistance and Motorstorm and thinks that video games are getting pretty realistic. She sees him playing MGS4, and she has a sense that things are much more serious. There are real things happening there, and the emotive power of this evolved method is less lost than her viewing of "1st Generation Stereotypes."

Fondue, I know.

OH MY FLIPPIN GOODNESS. That video was absolutely awesome. I don't understand how there can be so many negative comments here.

Why are you ALL so skeptical on gameplay.

There are so many elements never seen before. Snake Eye, that Otacon thing using a sixaxis? I thought that was genius. I loved how snake can use the environment to blend in, i love how he can SWITCH to a statue form. The realtime explosions and fights happening on the side aren't too often seen.

And really that AI is pretty damn smart. If everything works like they said it will, snake will start smelling after being in the trash too long? The tranquilizers are obviously silent, and if everythings so flippin loud in a battlefield, you won't notice too much if YOU CANT HEAR IT. Plus MGS gameplay has always been like that.

First person Cam shooting for the whole damn game? If you wanted? Thats sick! Though played sort of in VR missions in previous games, but not implemented very well. Gameplay with environments is MUCH more improved with the new system using the triangle button.

You never had such big side elements DURING gameplay like those flying.. whatever machine things? You never had ALLIES that actually thank you when you help them out. You were never able to drop and coordinate your moves. You were never able to throw grenades blindly over your head. You were never able to get DIZZY while rolling in a drum can.

I don't understand how you guys can be skeptical of a game so beautifully coordinated and well done. And the best excuse is the truck was only turned black when they shot it? For crying out loud, this game is being released in early 2008. Thats another flippin half a year they have to work on this.

722MB version he he. Even better. And it is only for the PS3.

Pay special attention to the video where Tretton says there is no MGS4 development on any other platform.

O_o everyone does realise that the Xbots shit on everything PS3 because they can't get over how superior they are for getting the world's most awesomest system, and that everyone else who doesn't buy their awesomest system (or even buys another system) has something flawed with their brain.

It's this thinking that makes them say anything derogatory about anything not XBox related. Yet their small cocks REQUIRE them to go to other console sites and start shitting on everything - THEY NEED TO PROVE THEY ARE SUPERIOR. And if you need to prove it to someone who doesn't care, then what you're really doing is trying to prove it to yourself.

In conclusion: Remember - If the Xbots have to come to the PS3 sites to PROVE that they have the superior system, it just PROVES that they don't. It PROVES that they need to justify having a Soon-To-Be-A-Brick having spent $700+ for in systems, peripherals, and services. If you were them, wouldn't you shit on everyone else's system and games too?...

PS: That was some fucking awesome gaming in that video. So far, so good - imagine what the game will be like when it's FUCKING DONE???!!! =D Some times it's good to own a PS3. (And those times are coming very very soon! Which is why those bots keep getting more and more vocal. They have the time, though... especially if they just sent the system off to be repaired... it'll take almost a month before they game again... poor poor bastards!)

At Beaudry:

How can you say the Animation is Jerky, you sir are clearly blind.

Regarding the Graphics, Frame rate and Animations. I have to say i think they are top notch. And this comment is from an Xbox360 owner and supporter.

My only gripes with this game are that it is far too futuristic now. And what they did with Ocelot and Liquid is Damn right joke.

Any one else agree.
