From the Tokyo-based Metal Gear Solid 20th Anniversary event that spawned a new PSP graphic novel and a cell phone outing for Snake, comes word that 3,000 players will be selected to participate in a beta program for Metal Gear Online. The game, which allows up to 16 players to engage in sneaky neck-snapping shenanigans, will be tested from August 20th until September 3rd.
Players hoping to be included in the beta can apply at the Kojima Productions website as of today -- entries close on August 6th. If you find yourself quite geographically removed from the East, you'd best hope Konami announces a similar program for the rest of the world or, at the very least, a release window for Metal Gear Online.

Wow. Jack of no Trades is back....your comments, even though it's a bunch of flames at times, always used to make me smile, especially the controversy you would start. So...yay!
But about the game, I really do hope that this might see the light of day on the PC, I do not own a PS3 and do not plan to own one unless the price drops to that juicy $399 figure. I'm a Metal Gear fan, and this could end up being a pretty different look on the whole series.
PC MGO FTW!!?

Sounds awesome, can't wait to sign up but doesn't this sound like another Beta that was just out, at least they are taking a page from Bungie's book

Is this supposed to be like the online mode in MGS 3: Snake Eater or the type of play in Portable Ops? Woulda been kinda cool if they used the younger Snake in PS3 graphics in my opinion. Sounds pretty sweet tho!

Anyone Know when the 360 Beta comes out?

Gowrsh...yer funny.
They would not bother to do it even IF IT WAS COMING TO THE 360. You know why? They would be to worried about the amount of people that could stay in the beta...there is that little 1 billion+ problem of 360 consoles not working. I dunno, something about a quality issue that Microsoft constantly denied until they had no other choice.
Hey Jack, welcome back. I agree with you. This site is by FAR the best for blogging. QJ is good also.

Its probably a timed exclusive so the 360 won't be seeing the beta for a while most likely.
But hey who knows...things can change like that.

You know, even if you subtract all the 360 owners that currently have theirs in transit for repair, its still far more than the number of PS3 owners. Slow your roll there bucky.

Godisa, if the failure rate is 30 percent, as people are pretty much assuming it is since Microsoft hasn't denied it, that's still a lot more 360s that will not break than there are PS3s total. Also, Microsoft never really denied the problem. Even early on, they admitted that they were having a large number of RRoD complaints that couldn't be blamed on improper storage conditions and were monitoring the situation. They never said how many they had, but companies never publicly admit that kind of information. The only thing they waited to do was to give the entire 360 community a "Get Out of RRoD Free" card. Now Sony and the PS2 Disc Read Error, that was stonewalling until a class action lawsuit forced them to admit a problem.
There's a new "360 Live Not working" article posted, why don't you go flame that one?

Um, maybe because this is a MGS post, and uh, it is PS3 ONLY. Microsoft said over and over it is not just one issue...how many times did I hear Mr. Moore say that they were within industry norms.
Right buddy,
This just in...Microsoft sold the rights to Halo to Sony. They said that they could not put out the game on inferior hardware that constantly breaks down.
Hey, if this riduculous MGS is coming to 360 rumor will not die, then I will just make up random shit like this.
Yes, Voi Vod demension of Hate is playing on my Pandora....have not heard this song for 10+ years.

You guys get WAAAAY too carried away with the RRoD crap. I know you need to convince yourself that you are somehow not missing out on the console with the most quality games. But really, let's think about it.
Let's say the rate is 30%. That means that 1 out of every 3 xbox 360 owners has had their system being fixed, free of charge, for 2 weeks in the past 80 or so weeks that the system has been out. Christ, my buddy hasn't played his PS3 in the past three weeks due to lack of games. The other 2/3 of people have been problem free.
1/3 of people miss 3 weeks per year. That means the overall average is 1 week per year per person. The system is $100 cheaper and has much better games. And the reliability is steadily getting better, with a somewhat promise that the Falcon chip will fix everything.
I would rather run the risk of not being able to play this Fall's sick 360 lineup than be guaranteed to miss out on Bioshock, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Halo 3, PGR4, Blue Dragon, AC6, and others.
And I honestly don't know what you dorks will bitch about once the reliability is resolved and the system gets a $100 price cut.

I'd hope the beta isn't Japan only...but either way, with test groups that small, you've got a snowball's chance in hell of getting in I'd imagine. =(

If anyone knows a surefire way to spoof your way onto a Japanese game beta, feel free to link us =P. The last time I tried (for a Japanese Gundam MMO) I failed hard and often in my attempt to sign-up for a free trial. There has got to be a way, I just don't know it =/. I really hope they bring this thing to the US.
