Harmonix will have a booth at this year's PAX convention in Seattle Aug 24-26 where Rock Band will be playable. For those who during E3 didn't have an appointment with EA, get invited to the West Hollywood party or end up in the suite gathering, here's their chance to play with the general populace -- like Chris Furniss of The Weekly Geek Show. Furniss points out, "Sure you could play Harmonix's Guitar Hero-and-every-other-game-ever-killer behind closed doors at this year's E3 ... But it wasn't on the show floor. This just furthers my frustration with companies at this year's E3."
Yes, the picture above created by and featuring Furniss does not actually use the Rock Band peripherals and he's using Donkey Kong bongos in place of the drums -- but it's still funny, darn it! Hopefully Harmonix will think ahead and have some plan set up for PAX and the mass of people who will want to play Rock Band. The 20x30 booth they'll have set up may only be for one set, which means PAX attendees will hopefully not experience the Nintendo Wii line of 2006 for their chance at the game. Thankfully, the game is just as fun to watch as it is to play.

I think Rock Band is gonna flop if it really costs around $200 dollars.

I dont think most people will buy the full set. Im guessing most people (including myself) will buy it as a hopeful alternative to that growing failure, Guitar Hero.
For me, its not the cost of the peripherals anyway, because thats a one-time expense, its about the cost of the DLC. And for Guitar Hero, not only is the price ridiculous, but they arent near meeting their promise of MOST DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT EVER!

Have you heard of the mythical tribe of people called "The Employed" legend has it they do some ritual called "work" to appease the "Gods of Stuff" who grant them green colored energy slips that they use to get things from stores. Supposedly they are all around us, but I dunno, it all sounds so inconvenient when usually I just ask mommy to buy my games and then wait till christmas and/or birthday to play them.
Anyway, I'll be taking this home hopefully at midnight on release day (if I can find a place open for it) and I might buy two just to support them, makes a great gift.

Wow, aren't you just a dick?
Sorry, but many members of "The Employed" who don't live with and mooch off of their parents, have this thing called "bills" that they have to pay at least occasionally.

The funny this is if this came out for the Wii, the games and accessories would cost as much as the console on which it is being played.
Anyways, i think the price factor is the reason why it is not being ported to Wii.. the wii demographic as casual and not as inclined to dump $200+ dollars on a game.

Huh, I was under the impression that it was the processing power that kept it off of the wii.

Actually, the Harmonix CEO said it would "absolutely" be coming to Wii. Just, a few months later.
Still, this is the game that's making me want to get a 360. I have no faith that the Wii version will have complete, or even near complete online content.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot you need a super computer to run a rhythm based game. Good one. I guess that means Guitar Hero III isn't going to work out on the Wii either. Better shoot Activision an email while there is still time.

I own that shirt. Nice.
Rock Band is definitely a game that I hope has plenty of full band setups in store so I can try out what instruments I'm willing to buy before it launches.

Considering the epic showing that Guitar Hero II had at last year's PAX:

I am expecting a show for the ages. Bring us photos and video, Joystiq!

No. That's not at all what he said. Go read that interview over again. Your growing powers of comprehension will thank you.

It's pretty much a given that Rock Band will be a huge success and the entire set will cost $200+, but you don't have to buy everything and you can use GH2 guitars (for 360 at least).
Even though I already have two of the 360 controllers, they'll get my green energy slips for the full set just because I like the look of the new guitars.

The $200 bundle price tag doesn't bother me. I've been playing rhythm games for a long time, and that's actually a pretty good price. I've bought single controllers worth more. My arcade Pop'n Music controller was $250 alone.
One thing I would like to know about Rock Band though, is if it's going to support Midi like Drummania does. I have an electric drum kit I use for Drummania, and I'd like to be able to use it for Rock Band as well.

I would like to point out that it's not $200 for everything. It's $200 for the game, one guitar, drums, and microphone. You'd still be missing one guitar if you wanted to play four-player (unless you already own a guitar from one of the 'Heroes).
The question for me is how much is just the game and one guitar? I'll add on others later if I like the game.
