I have to sign on to Live though I have auto-sign in active. I've had that issue for about 6 months now. I didn't have any issues with downloads last night though I as well as a few friends have noticed some serious issues with Halo 2 matchmaking over the past week now.

m$ makes all this money, charges for everything little 'Xtras' and yet they still cannot get it right. Isn't the reason they charge gamers to play on line so they provide a superior service than the competition? Their laughing at us gamers man. They sell a piece of hardware that is crap, software that is buggy and an online service that is showing it's age. How long can should we put up with this?

The competition does not really offer free online play. Sony just rolls the cost of online into the cost of the games. Sony takes a bigger chunk of the price of games than Microsoft to cover expenses. In the end, Sony still collects your money to pay for their servers and bandwidth.

have you ever stopped to wonder if major nelson could in fact be more than one person?

any public statement by a company or even semi-official email goes through the entire PR or public affairs department before it sees the light of day.

most of the communication with any media figures or executive figures usually is screened by assistants who read their mail for them.

so yes, major nelson isnt totally official MS PR, but how do we know?

I also had problems this morning. I just got Perfect Dark Zero yesterday and went to play it this morning, to be greeted with our favorite pal, the Update Manager that scoffs at your attempts to be logged into Live and/or Messenger. I tried updating 4 times, to no avail.

I went to Marketplace, and it was down. When it did come up, it wouldn't load any menus. This was at 8am this morning, EST.

So the service has a minor issue and all of a sudden it sucks?

The PSN is a fraction of the size of Live and the Marketplace and downloads are already much slower than live is.

Live is still up, Matchmaking still works and there's a minor problem. This is the 2st time in as many years I see issues like this happened. Frankly, I think it's fantastic uptime for the money. Nothing works 100% of the time.

I downloaded 3 demos and 3 game videos yesterday with no problems. Played online with no problems as well. Is this just going on today? MS has servers for different regions, so it could possibly be isolated to certain servers for certain regions. I'm in Minnesota and haven't had a problem.

worked fine for me. nay a hiccup. but then again i just use matchmaking and don't really use marketplace.

and if it's true, give them a break. so it's down for a night for the first time in years. big frick. things break and nothing's perfect. live is a pretty damn good service, cut it some slack.

and besides. maybe it's a sign. go outside for a change instead of running to your computer to complain.

As long as the 360 has the superior games list, or at least a significant number of quality console exclusives releasing, most hardcore gamers will put up with things like this. It isn't like 1 day of Live being down is going to make me not want to play Mass Effect, Bioshock, Lost Odyssey, or Halo 3.

Would I like for the 360 to have perfect reliability and lower price in all facets of its gaming universe? Of course. But there is still no way that I, as an RPG fan, shooter fan, and a Sci-Fi fan, am going to miss out on Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Halo3. I mean, it sucks, but not as bad as it would suck to not get to play this Fall's sick 360 lineup.

I think even with this hiccup, Live is still quite a bit better than the PSN. That is just an opinion, though.

Definitely started having issues here today.

Played bomberman for awhile, and lag times were terrible, when I usually have a pretty good connection.

Later, tried to download the NASCAR Demo, and getting the same error message everyone else is.

Hopefully they get this fixed soon. I wanna show off the NASCAR game to some of my friends.

i've got this problem too. At first i though it was just me because i've just received a replacement console because my old one broke. i called xbox customer support and they're having another "update", which they seem to be having every other day at that call centre, so i got told to call back in three hours.

It isn't complexity which is the issue, it's just that they were doing maintanance. It would have interfiered with processes for about an hour or two at most.

I always have problems with Xbox Live because I route Xbox Live through my laptop and that connects to my WiFi setup. This causes all kinds of issues as I'm quite a distance from my router and it's hit or miss if I get a decent connection to the internet at the time I want to get onto Xbox Live. So, I wouldn't have noticed any issues and just blamed my WiFi for the errors anyway.

live being down is only a minor point in the flawed m$ strategy. No service is up and totally reliable I know BUT when a company pushes it's crap on us like m$ you have to take a step back and reconsider their game plan. If they didn't keep talking up the benefit of paying to play because of their superior hardware / software it might be easier to over look. Second if m$ could explain what is flawed in the 360 to avoid over heating, scratching disks and the general high failure rate instead of gloating on it for 18 months and calling gamers, parents and the industry liars. Don't believe in the great white hype that is 360. m$ doesn't care about us gamers just the mighty m$.

Wow. I went through hell trying to get my Wii to connect to my Wireless router, and then went through even more hell trying to get it to go through the system updates.

I've never once seen Joystiq run a story on that. These aren't rare isolated incidents either, I've talked to numerous customers and other people on message boards who went through similar issues.

Live is working fine for me. I Downloaded the Darkness Demo last night with no problems at all. Not sure what you guys are talking about.

Dsub,

I wouldn't necessarily place that fault on Nintendo. Can you tell us WHY it wasn't working?

I've found both the DS and Wii to work fine with every Wi-Fi setup I've tried them on. The only thing I find lacking...and perhaps someone who's familiar with the 360 network setup can comment on if they have this feature on that system...is that I couldn't find any proxy settings. It makes it much more of a pain because you have to specially configure your router to handle this. As for firewalls, it's your job to make sure you have the right ports open.

So let me get this straight... You had a problem connecting a Wii to your current Wi-Fi setup. You called them and they actually helped you to get it working even though they know little to nothing about your network configuration (and apparently neither do you), but somehow it represents a major flaw in their network connectivity?

My point would be you can't even tell us if the problem was with your router's configuration or a specific design flaw on Nintendo's part. Is there really a large-scale network configuration flaw in the design of Wii Connect, or are your anecdotal references a symptom of users not understanding their network configuration? Unless you can give us an example of the former, that's why there's no story on the problem; it's not Nintendo's fault in this instance.
