Of course, the series goes in game release order and not chronological order. Metroid II is actually much later on in the Samus plot line than the Metroid games of recent -- but we're sure that'll all get explained. This retrospective seems to be done just as well as the Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy ones we've come to enjoy. Hopefully in time they'll find a little section on the site to dedicate to these for lazy Sunday afternoon viewing.

Alright, who did the incredible rock covers in this, and where can I find them?

So they're saying the weakest Metroid game is still good. That means they think Metroid is a real good series.

So maybe G4TV should become http://www.COPS.StarTrek.Occasionally_Video_Game_Related_Content.org
and Game Trailers should get the TV station

Oh, and personally, i felt Metroid II was better, because, while still non-linear, it was less so than the original (fewer points where you were completely lost), it had a real save system, and better combat mechanics
Yes it was black-and-white, but i felt it much more compelling than the other

So true about the G4 comment. In fact, I would go as far to say that they have better game coverage with the videos and interviews than most gaming sites. Who'd thunk coming from a site affiliated with Mtv.

Gametrailers did an excellent job with its Zelda series so I'm going to enjoy this assuming I don't have to hear the way the narrator pronounces "Mario" again.
Metroid 2 was an extremely important game in the franchise because it introduced so many concepts used in the later games. When released it was the first Gameboy game that I had bought in years and I don't think I bought another until Metroid Fusion came out, but it was a victim of the Gameboy. With the green and yellow color palette and the lack of a map it's difficult to tell where you are. The game annoyingly didn't cache anything that was no longer on the screen. Enemies would respawn far too easily. The implementation of the spider ball meant I felt obligated to crawl along every single surface in the game.
BTW, the movie mentions that Zelda 2 was released in 1987. Unless that's a Japanese date it's wrong. The game kept getting delayed and I was in high school before it was released. The earliest it could have been released was 1988 but I think it was 1989.

I must say, the retrospectives are probably the best videos GT has put out.
...I can only imagine how many parts the Mario retrospective will take.

Honestly, no other game has captivated me much as Super Metroid has.
I can't wait to see their retrospective for Super Metroid.

The only reason they started doing Final Fantasy Retrospectives now is because they hope to have them done before the next game actually comes out.

Damn. Metroid II is the only 2d Metroid I haven't beaten... but maybe now I'll go back to it sometime. It should be beaten.
Anyway, I've said it before, and I'll say it again and again.
The DS needs a new 2d Metroid game. Needs. Anybody agree?
