Lost game (crash) landing Q1 2008
Ubisoft announced today that their video game adaptation of ABC's island mystery Lost will be coming out in the first quarter 2008 to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A trailer is expected to be shown today at Comic-Con between 5pm and 6pm PT (8pm to 9pm ET).
While not divulging much about the trailer, Ubisoft gave a hint to the story of the game. You play as one of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. According to the description provided by IGN, "you'll have to try and unravel the mysteries of the island while dealing with unsettled business in your past." Ubisoft said that you will also interact with familiar characters and battle Ol' Smokey.
If we're playing an unknown character from the original crash, we're kind of worried about how the game will progress in relation to the show -- will we be limited to what we can do so as to not upset the current storyline, or will this serve as an alternate timeline separate from the show? One only needs to mention "Nikki and Paulo" to a Lost fan to know that adding survivors post-crash is a recipe for ire.
Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have reportedly worked with Ubisoft to devise the game's storyline. Said the two, "Ubisoft has done a fantastic job and come up with a game that is visually amazing and imaginative both on its own and as an extension of the world of the show." Hopefully we'll have a better idea after the trailer tonight.
[Update - The trailer has been embedded behind the break. Enjoy!]

I'm trying not to get all hyped up or excited about this game.
However I would love to play as Sawyer...or Kate.
LegendarySyko @ Jul 27th 2007 2:21AM
The character design looks....off..other visuals look good.
Lijik @ Jul 26th 2007 6:19PM
I'm not all that surprised Ubisoft is handling this and Heroes, considering Gameloft did the mobile treatments for those shows.
mr windup bird @ Jul 26th 2007 6:22PM
nikki and paulo weren't interesting until that one episode where they died. That episode owned.
baby sea tuna @ Jul 27th 2007 8:46AM
Agreed. The writers really made up for it with that one.

The video game is supposed to be based on the show but not affect its storyline or intertwine to much, kind of like the many ARGs the show has. I'm kind of disappointed that it appears you play a Jack clone; I was hoping for something more creative. Character customization would be cool, too.
I'm looking forward to this as a huge fan of the show but I won't put too much stock into and let myself get disappointed. The game looks nice but Sawyer's face looked so GTA:SA.
I hope there's more island-puzzle-solving and less backstory stuff.
FWIW, I thought Nikki and Paulo were a genious side-story; I have a feeling they were supposed to be so much more but they did a great job tying up those loose ends. And anybody that says Lost sucks or has lost its appeal apparently hasn't seen the last few episodes.

yup i would have just cut that powerline to stop the stupid signal instead of sacrificing charlie
vidGuy @ Jul 26th 2007 6:33PM
Charlie believed he had to die or else Desmond's flash-forward wouldn't come true - they wouldn't be rescued. But yeah, some of the things they do on the show really feel like they are there just to fill time.

There's a fundamental problem with a game based on Lost: The game can't reveal the island's secrets before the television show does, otherwise they'd be no mystery for future seasons of the television show. But what's the point of playing the game if it doesn't reveal any new secrets that the television show hasn't already revealed!
Mr Khan @ Jul 26th 2007 7:31PM
Either
A: Fake/fabricate the storyline
B: Embed a lockout out of certain areas, until such date as the producers release the information
C: DLC
Baker1000 @ Jul 26th 2007 7:22PM
LOST = Best series ever!
I'm disappointed that it isn't coming to a Nintendo console but i'll just get it on PC.
Baker1000 @ Jul 26th 2007 7:24PM
It might reveal some minor secrets before the show. Did you play The Lost Experience? (the alternate reality game on the web) It gave away a few secrets that haven't been seen in the show yet.

Anyone else catch the single frame of computer screen text? "Find us and we will show you the way". Shown right after Locke sitting at the computer and before the main character is running to the left, at about 4/5ths through the trailer.
Andrew @ Jul 28th 2007 8:06PM
Will the video game have an ending?
vidGuy @ Jul 27th 2007 7:59AM
Since the show does, I imagine the game will.
Ethan @ Aug 8th 2007 4:20PM
So, are we playing as Jack then? That makes the most sense, since he has the most decision-making power out of the castaways. I personally want a KOTOR-type experience where you can assemble your A team from any of the beach residents and take anybody, essentially deviating from the storyline.
For instance, there might be a few different plotlines leading up to the opening of the hatch. As Locke I'd hate playing for ages being forced to keep it a secret.
Cameron DS @ Jul 27th 2007 11:09AM
I can't wait to play Lost: The Game....
4 8 15 16 23 42 ........ Yes!!! 4 8 15 16 23 42
I win again! Take that numbers!

So...it's The Adventure Company version of Far Cry?
