EA's next Marvel fighter abandons 'Imperfect-ions'

With the announcement that its Chicago studio is developing a Marvel-licensed fighting game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (sorry wagglers), EA has pledged to deliver what has "never truly been delivered" ... by EA (Capcom did it quite well a decade ago). Distancing itself from the Rise of the Imperfects debacle, corporate HQ has put the Marvel heroes and villains in the somewhat capable hands of EA Chicago, who had been riding high on the success of Fight Night Round 3, before sinking to mediocrity with Def Jam: ICON.

According to studio GM Kudo Tsunoda the new fighter will feature "huge environments and a living world that keeps the gameplay fresh." He adds, "every battle will be unique ... every battle will be like a first edition." Yeah, but one in mint condition? Or wrinkled up with gum stuck between the pages?

A behind-the-scenes preview of the game will air during Spike TV's Game Head on September 1st, at 1am (Friday night). The game is tentatively scheduled for release next year.

I want at least 50 characters from the marvel universe. Make it look like Guity Gear X2 cause 3d fighting games end up suckin. Make my dreams come true EA......oh wait EA!???? *$%^

I agree. Knock it off with the waggle/waggler crap. Or at least be equal opportunity about it (Sony = Shakers, Microsoft = Toasters).

i have no doubts that the chicago team can make a visually impressive marvel game. i just hope they dump a lot of the crap that went into def jam icon.

1)lose the spastic living environments. i like interactive environments, but the way it was done in icon was horrible.
2)lose the dj controlls.
3)more throws. make it more like def jam ffny and less like icon.
4)and just because the mapping punches to the right analog worked for fight night, doesn't mean that it works for all fighting games.
5)create a hero would be cool, though not a must.

Capcom should make a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 instead of EA making these silly 3D fighters.

letting EA make it is the biggest mistake right there. Letting them come up with the "Imperfect" characters was idiotic, since there are hundreds of good characters they could have used for a fighting game, which are all better than the ones EA came up with.

Like Jack said, they should make it using 2d art, and for each costume change they should have a different artist, ie- Jim Lee version of Wolverine, Silvestri version, etc.

When will Marvel make a "Jump Superstars"-like game with Marvel characters? Ganbarion sure did a good job with all of those comic book characters in one game.

I'm still very up for a power stone styled 3-D fighter. Just have a JAPANESE devoloper make it. Americans don't really have a track record for good fighting games.

Yeah but Mortal Kombat started to suck after MK4.Its sad because I really enjoyed Deception but Armageddon was a step backwards for the series.

MK1-Good
MK2-Awesome
Mk3-Good but rubish compared to UMK3
UMK3-Freaking sweet.
Trilogy-Outstanding.
MK4-Ok,I mean it lost part of the cool stuff but back then the technology was kind of primitive so I can forgive it.
MK:M-WTH?,It was decent but not worth buying.
MK:SF-garbage.
MK4:gold-Only 4+ characters without any graphical upgrade,Lame.

MK:DA-Now thats something but what happen to the babalities,friendship etc?.
MK:Deception:Awesome MK seemed to get finally in shape,the konquest mode was kind of lame but I liked it.

MK:A-WTH?,for the ultimate MK game it wasnt ultimate at all.They totally killed the fatallities(See the irony in this.)No babalities,friendships,animalities whatsoever just generic fatalities all the way to the end and you can only battle 16 of the 50+ characters?,Phfff.
