Gears of War PC with 20% more

More Marcus, more Dom, more Brumak! Mark Rein, VP of Epic, says to EuroGamer that the PC version of mega-hit Gears of War adds "about 20 percent extra." Rein also reaffirmed that the extra PC content, like the Brumak fight, will not be making it onto the Xbox 360 due to changes in the "codebase." OK, who wants to take the first crack at: "Even Epic can't get their own engine to do what they want? Har, har."

Gears of War on PC will have added level content, multiplayer maps, game modes and a game editor. Now, where to find the extra money for upgrading your PC to run the game smoothly? On the bright side, you could always just play with your Gears of War dolls, which we're sure will be a lot cheaper than upgrading a PC. Gears of War on PC is expected this fall.

yup, DVD9s, probably mutiple discs, this time they can actually take advantage of the *cough* HDD

most pc games are one 2 or 3 dvd's because u install the the game onto the hard drive. theres no need for disc compression

Halo for Xbox was shipped on a DVD because the game, uncompressed, wouldn't fit on a CD.

Halo PC shipped on a CD because it did, in fact, fit on a CD when compressed.

While stronger processors certainly allow higher compression, the fact that consoles generally stream data prevents the same amount of compression as PC games, as the latter (and some PS2 and PS3 games) are installed to a hard drive.

this pisses me off so bad. i read an xbox magazine like a year ago and all those features were planned for the 360. cliffy b " in our plot we have yellow tags which we consider "water cooler" moments where the story jumps out". in that article he talks about a part where u fight a brumak and u need to search dead bodies for a hammer of dawn to kill it.. mark my words that will be in gears of war because those douchebags cut it out of the 360. i remember everything u promised Epic, and it kicked ass but im not buying it again for something you said i was getting on the 360.

I'm pretty sure that by the time this comes out for the pc, 360 gamers will be too busy playing bioshock, halo 3, mass effect, gta iv, blue dragon, army of two, etc, to really care.

They've been doing this for years.
If they really weren't set out to piss us off we'd have sequels to Jill of the Jungle and Jazz Jackrabbit by now.

It's not as if Microsoft had anything to do with the Gears coming to 360 only... or did they?

Also, Gears on 360 was $60... I'm sure PC gamers will only pay $50. That's bullshit in any of my books. We ALSO got shafted on Command and Conquer 3.

It's a disgusting game that I don't want to play anymore... pay more for PC upgrades or keep the 360 and play inferior versions.

Thanks MS and Epic. So for what reason do I need an Xbox when I can use my "reliably fast & quiet" PC, get more game content, and at a cheaper price (considering PC games are $10-$30 less than the $60+ Xbox 360 titles)???

So tell me why I need to buy xbox titles when they are cheaper and have more content for my PC? Wasn't the point of the Xbox to be a gaming system and relax the use of the PC? (my PC is far more quieter, faster, better graphics, more accurate with Key/Mouse combo, and the games are cheaper, but atleast $15-20!!) Thanks Epic and M$. Failure at logic and marketing.

$480 of upgrades would easily let me play any of the 360 "exclusives" that will make their way to the PC within a year, and have them look better and come with more content. Hello Halo3 and Mass Effect in 2008! I'm patient, and I'll also Starcraft II and Dragon Age.

and how much did you pay for the equipment to make that upgrade the only thing you need? His question was someone would buy a 360 over PC, and my answer was because getting a PC to play those games as beautifully as the 360 would be mighty expensive. If all you have to do is make one relatively inexpensive upgrade (even though that single upgrade is still more expensive than one 360), you've spent quite a bit of money getting to that point.

That's what the 1 year wait is for. Sure you get more content after a year, but those who abstain from 360 have to wait a year to get this content (at least legitimately)

you people may think microsoft invented the xbox to get people off the pc gaming and do it on the xbox instead but they did not they done it for the opisit reason to get people off the consoles and back on the pc I mean the pc is the most powerful gaming machine in the world. every pc gamer knows this type of game is much better on the pc anyway games like this stop people buying a PS3 just so they can play this then they bring it out on the PC whats you problem XBOX gamers or is it the fact that us PC gamers are gona kick your arse on live?

I've pretty much given up on Epic at this point. I bought the 360 version of GoW and it was mostly just a tech demo. Hardly any content for what you paid for. Now they offer more content for the PC version and leave the original fans hanging with nothing.

Multiplayer was incomplete without even a CTF mode, so replayability is shot. Team deathmatch is about as fun as watching paint dry.

The whole thing is just an EA move. I'll pass from now on.

Epic already made it clear that they added new content to make the PC game distinctive from the PC release. Some stuff didn't make it in time for the 360 release, but the 360 release was out nearly a YEAR EARLIER. And it ran perfectly on the 360, without my having to adjust graphical settings, download new drivers, hack the registry, overclock my processor and GPU or do a variety of other things.

Will the PC version get some good candy? Yup. Do I much care? NOPE. Good on them. Epic has returned to releasing oodles of freebies and user-modifiable content as they've always done, when MS wasn't in the way to hold out their hand and demand money.

This is Micro$oft securing their base, PC Gamers.

I've already purchased Geometry Wars, Lost Planet and soon, Gears of War....not for 360, but for my PC gaming rig.

MS is actually encouraging you to PC game so go do it.I bet the 360 guys will be happy when they realize this cuz Crysis is gon be sittin in your lap as a 360/PC exclusive along with Halo Wars, and we already have C&C3 so I love it...I'm glad my PC bretherin get to play Gears cuz honestly the 360 and PC guys should be together...Now the Mac guys I have no love for...LOL

I do not understand Epics logic, at least half of the 6 million people who own gears on the xbox360 would gladly pay $10-$15 dollars for 20% more content. Thats 30 t0 45 million dollars even if only half of ous by it, a very large chuck of this I am sure would be profit.
All companys want to make money, espeicaly microsoft, which is why I think this content will be coming to the xbox360 sometime next year. The next question is will it be downloadable or will their be a speical edition ie: Gears of war 1.20%

I find it funny that a bunch of 360 peeps are getting all upset over the fact that the PC will have a better game than them, even though its coming out much later.

Get over it. If you actually thought that any of the high quality 360 games weren't going to make it to the PC in DX10 glory w/ more content, then I think you were just kidding yourself. Besides, you guys got the game sooner and didn't pay as much to play it. Consider it a win and let it go.

I'm content waiting for games since my PC's capable of handling them. M$ wants to move Vista and promote Games For Windows. They can do that with these games. I can't wait for Bioshock and almost certainly Mass Effect when they hit.

Am I the only person on this site that doesn't have a computer that can run Gears or Crysis good? Is it just me or does it seem like every PC gamer thinks their rig can run anything lol.

I needed to upgrade my PC since it's been 7 years. So I put in a quad core 6600, 3 gigs of DDR2, and a 640mb 8800GTS which I can OC. Yea, so I'm pretty sure mine can handle it.

I'm not the type of PC gamer who constantly upgrades - I just figured after 7 years I'd splurge a bit.

Early adopters of Epic titles are the losers, so when you see Gears 2 just remember a better version will be out 9 months later.

Why the hell would I care that a better release with be out in 9 months? I don't want to wait nine months just so I can get a few more levels. Its inevitable this generation since 360 and PC game can easily be ported due to their archetecture.

Is there a release date for this yet or what? Are they going to c-block Halo and release it anywhere near it?

Why are you PC guys trying to fight with the 360 guys? Stop being stupid. Both PC/360 are getting shared games but the majority of great games comming out for PS3/360 won't see light on the PC.

I dont see why anyone would complain. GOW came out a year earlier on the xbox. I would rather have the game a year earlier then play an old game with added content. Besides, I was done with GOW back in may. I have no intention to return. And another thing, once GOW pc comes out, I couldent care less even if it was on 360 cause I will be playing halo 3 and all the other great fall line-up of games.

The only thing now in GOW that i look forward to is GOW 2. And assuming that is released around the time starcraft 2 comes out, which I plan to buy a new pc for, I couldent care less if it was for the 360 or the pc (although I prefer doing my gaming on 360 cause its more relaxing)

I don't think the system requirements for StarCraft 2 are going to be high enough that you need a new computer, unless your computer is 2 or 3 years old and has never been upgraded.

I'm sure that even a 5-year old computer will be able to play it. It's not like anything besides the cinematics will be graphically demanding (probably).

You know what's fuckin hilarious? Seeing all these xbox fanboys, and there are more than any other here at joystiq, bitching and whinning like a bunch of babies that didn't get their toy on christmas. PC Gamers got screwed when Gears didn't come to their platform last year, and now it's just a little bitter sweetness right back at ya.

Epic's base has ALWAYS been the PC Gaming community, and kids that think the Epic started with Gears needs read up a bit about a popular franchise called Unreal Tournament, which will be ported to a console near you in the next few months...

Oh, and you have to love the fuckin morons who have to bring up price comparisons between a Gaming PC that does more than playing games, and a closed proprietary console box that only has one purpose. What a bunch of anti-pc fucktards....
