Sony limited the clock speed to conserve battery power. Anyone with an older PSP will experience short battery life while playing Syphon Filter. If Sony thought battery life at 333MHz was too short then, why do they consider it okay now?

I believe the idea was that they originally wanted better battery life in order to convince people to buy the thing, but that doesn't seem to be that big of an issue now.

So, yeah, crazy marketing.

it because of the psp lites extended battery life. sony is forgetting about the past and looking towards the future. maybe there expecting people to drop the old one and get a new one i meen people did the same thing to the DS. from what i heard the damn things are selling like crazy im gonna get a lite soon 2 there eventually gonna be updates and options you wont be able to have with the psp 1001. USB charge capabilities SWEET. ill play my ps3 while it charges on my ps3 then plug out and go. i know there are usb/chargers but since the ps3 comes with one why bother.

The PSP lite *doesn't* have an extended battery life (unless you shell out for a battery from the regular PSP). The PSP lite is more efficient with it's battery usage, but that's completely offset by a lower overall battery capacity.

I think the new battery time, while still the same as the old one, is based on the fact that PSP now runs at 333 MHz.

if the cpu's still locked, I believe the battery time would be 8~10 hours, as previously announced.

Megahertz shmegahertz. The only speed that matters is the sales rate of the DS :p

This is cool.

I think I'm buying one of those PSP lites. Should be a nice addition to my PS3.

Don't get me wrong, this game is gonna be awesome, I enjoyed dark mirror but... I'm not looking forward to having to stay plugged into the AC adapter just to play it. There is no way I'm forking out for the PSP Lite.
Imagine the battery life playing this game on a standard launch PSP (kinda tired battery) on WiFi. I'll be surprised if mine lasts over 2 hours under those conditions.

Homebrew has allowed you to set your PSP's default memory clock speed to 333MHz for ages, so how is the PSP firmware update relevant? And how is this news?

Eric, it's relevent because whilst homebrew enables you to up the clock speed, it doesn't actually change any of the games that are built to run at 222mhz.

If you actually read the article, in the hands of the developers, they can add physics and water effects etc, as opposed to in the hands of the homebrew devs, where it gets them an extra few FPS on Mario 64.

And erm, good work on the PSP flaming guys. Some of those comments were almost original. Diversity exists, get used to it.

Yeah, I'll look forward to playing it on my T.V. too...

When it gets ported over to the PS2, just like the last one.

You would think that with the recent success of the graphically inferior Wii and DS, Sony would have learned by now that advertising a game and/or systems technical and graphical superiority isn't really a great way to market your product.

Oh well. The PSP is already dead, nice try Sony.

So you think instead of touting the PSPs graphical prowess they should instead boast it's original control method? It's the differences that are giving the PSP the sales it's getting, and the target audience are the ones that don't want to still be playing old school mario (haha, apart from the homebrew scene, of course ^^) or tappy non-games.

Not to say 2D mario isn't great, but a lot of people who spend their time at home playing Gears and MGS want to play at least imitations of modern current gen games on their hardware. That's the target audience, you think if they tried to compete with Nintendo portables on their level they'd get any sales at all? Laughable.

Don't just compare sales figures and say the PSP is dead, it's remarkable that any machine has managed to dent Nintendo's portable marketshare at all, after all, many have tried. It's not even a black hole of money as the PS3 currently is, it's doing quite well considering it's going up against the almighty Gameboy.

wow... looks pretty good, too bad the battery life sucks and you can't fit 2 analog sticks in your pocket, then it might actually be fun to play! =)

there are so many inherent problems with trying to create ps2 games on a handheld... the cost of the unit, the battery life, the dev cost, but probably most importantly, while the psp gets somewhere between ps1 and ps2 quality graphics, it's got a super nes controller...

i mean... who gave the green light for this handheld?

I response to the DS comments...

There is a certain amount of people that will appreciate good beer, and then there is a lot of people that will drink monkey piss, so long as there is alcohol in it. This is sort of the same thing..

If you are willing to drink your "calculator quality monkey piss graphics" on a DS, that is fine... but don't blame people for having more refined taste and wanting more.

Looks nice, for all I care about Syphon Filter.

I would say that I am impressed by the visuals of the PSP. I borrowed one recently with a few games and that big wide screen is so awesome. The audio this thing can pump out with headphones is also a delicious treat.

The battery life is a drag though.

It looks good but meh, these types of games don't really appeal to me on PSP.

The controls aren't the issue, neither is the battery life really. It's that after less than an hour of play, no matter the game, my hands get cramped.

It's funny, the DS is the one that's supposed to be played only in "short bursts" or whatever the phrase is. But I always play the DS longer because I think it's more comfortable to hold.
