Yesterday, Microsoft announced an Xbox 360 HD DVD player price drop and the inclusion of five free HD DVDs, but also coyly mentioned such offer was only available in the US. And IGN decided to press Microsoft on the issue to see whether or not a price cut would make its way overseas and received a standard marketing response that goes something like ... "we currently have no announcements to make at this stage regarding a price cut of the Xbox 360 HD DVD Drive for the UK". So, there you have it no HD DVD player price cut for anyone else for the foreseeable future. Or maybe such an announcement will be coming during that special UK event. Hmm, maybe.
UK not getting HD DVD player price cut (yet)

Maybe my 360 will sprout wings & fly to the United States, where it's loved!
Oh well, if Microsoft want to dig their own grave, good riddance.

It had a unoffical promotion on it a couple of months ago. I picked mine up with 4 movies for £149 and on its own it would have only cost me £99

You know I used to hate reading comments on Major Nelson's site. Every post had UK owners yelling about not having content.
I can't say I blame them anymore. They always seem to get the short end of the stick.

Does this price cut show signs of HD-DVD failing? Why would they put 5 movies for free. Are they just trying to boost sales of HD-DVD because Blu-Ray is winning? At first when I saw this offer, I was definitely going to go pick it up, then I thought about why they would cut the price that much and that is when I realized that it is probably a sign of HD-DVD's defeat. What do you think?
Also, I am by no means a PS3/Sony fanboy. I am a die hard 360 fan.

SRU Phil...
There have been offers like this for Blu-Ray as well so it's on both sides of the format war. I think it is a way to get people to adopt the new format early on by rewarding them with free (often crappy) titles they already own on regular DVD.

I don,t think its means HD-DVD is FOOKED lolz
even if it does end up that way you will have a CHeap A$$ HD-dvd player and loads of cheap HD movies to pick up
I was thinking the other day HD-DVD would have won the fight if only MS had of put the HD drive in the system...even still maybe there next system will have it emmmmm
Back to the story yey i am from the UK/ireland and yey we do get fooked off with things like this. But MS has give us guys more than enuff with xbox 1 & 360 games coming out worldwide on the same date is good 4 me
as 4 me i think i will pick one up or maybe just get a duel HD/blu-ray player __ not sure at all >.<

I get very irritated with the love that America gets, free XBLA titles. Cheaper prices. Competition exclusivity.
Anyway I am going to get Blu-ray and it will win. HD-DVD is really flopping in the UK, but the UK wont decide a format war as everyone here is so backward regarding technology, and the BBC giving advice like wait for one format to win before buying one is just making things worse.
I saw a deal in a major retailer, a Toshiba TV and HD-DVD player for £1000, but the Sony TV which cost £1649 only came with a free DVD player, that says to me that shops are trying to get rid of there stocks of HD-DVD players, and from what I can tell most shops are backing Blu-ray.
