Rockstar to develop brand new franchise exclusively for PlayStation 3

Shortly before the show hit the tubes, SCEA's director of 3rd party relations, Michael Shorrock, confirmed this statement on the official US PlayStation blog adding, "Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.. This is really a win-win situation for both companies."
So what is it exactly? Sony has made an agreement with Rockstar to say no more concerning the deal nor the title involved. From a developer that has tackled everything from gang violence to ping pong, your guess is as good as ours.

It will be Bowling with ultra realistic psyhics and Blu-ray will be harnessed by repeating each file 10 times to ensure adequate loading times with this super slow drive. 20GB for sure!
Unfortunately graphics will have to be cut - pity that PS3 has low end graphics card - slightly upgraded GF7600....

Do your research first before making comments, you wont sound like such an idiot. Blu-ray is just as fast as a normal DVD, because of the way the data is on the disc it doesnt need to move as fast.

Nice to see you are so full of shit. The PS3 does not have a 7600. I know for a fact the PS3 uses AT LEAST an upgraded 7800GTX.
As for graphics, look at games such as Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, Lair, Uncharted. Thats proof of PS3 capable of producing good graphics. The textures in Lair are brilliant. Joystiq also reported UT3 looks very similar if you compare the PC and PS3 version. Woah... the PS3 version looks on par with the PC version?

I'm so sick of people making shit up. Here are links for PS3 and Xbox 360 graphic card comparisons. This should stop all bullshit. Clearly PS3 wins in the Graphic department. Just wait for Lair, then you see some real next gen graphics.

At this point I have no idea who to believe when it comes to which system is more powerful graphically.
So I'm willing to settle for they're almost "evenly matched"
And Lair and Killzone 2 look like games that could be on the 360. In fact the only games that I can truly say looks absolutely amazing would be Heavenly Sword, Final Fantasy XIII, and MGS4.

But then again it could all just be hype created by sony. And like Evan said on the next page the machine is hard to work.
Now b4 a sony troll attacks me I'd like to point out that I'm NOT a developer. I don't even work with videogames in any aspect. This is just based on what I've read on Joystiq, IGN, and other websites. And the general consensus I've gathered is that the ps3 is a hard machine to utilize when it comes to creating the awesome, latest, cutting edge graphics that the "most HARD hard core gamers" desire.
So what that suggests to me is that either
1) It really its a stubborn bitch that refuses to yield its goodies to developers.
OR
2) The goodies were never there to begin with. As in the "potential" doesn't exist and its just as powerful as the 360.
Once again I'd like to point out that I am merely speculating.
As of now it just seems like a bunch of hype from my POV. And in all honesty the difference between games like Gears of War on the 360 and Final Fantasy XIII on the ps3 truly don't make me desire the ps3. Its like the difference between a hotel that has a 4.8 star rating and the one next door that has a 5.0. I'm not going ot pay an extra 100 dollars for the room in the 5.0 star hotel if the 4.8 is JUST as good.

Another 100-post thread! Isnt this whole exclusive thingy getting a bit too eventful to the point of being ridiculous? I can count about 20 such titles going from one platform to another or being multiplat - and its always strung out, with lots of semi-official snippets, fan wars, wailing and gnashing of teeth, etc etc. Well anyway, excellent news for PS3 though I am probably the only one who didnt like GTA:SA so not too excited...taking swipes at each other

Wow, people love flaming Sony lately - even when they get genuinely good news!
To the inevitable "I thought Sony didn't pay for exclusives" commenters, consider the following before you write what you're destined to:
1) The platform that had a major hand in boosting Rockstar's popularity in the first place is the PlayStation 2.
2) They could've been held back by the storage limitations of a single DVD with GTAIV.
3) Sony could likely give them the best, most up-to-date tools they have. Since Rockstar likes to push the boundaries of hardware AND social norms, that could likely be a deal too good to pass up.
Any one of those reasons could be valid excuses for Rockstar deciding to make a PS3 exclusive title. Hell, it took YEARS before Grand Theft Auto 3 left the PS2.
So let's try to keep this civil, shall we? Keep in mind, this is coming from someone who owns a Wii, 360, and PS3. 360 and Wii both have tons of exclusives - let Sony have this one in stride...

Nothing that Rockstar has done, that wasn't called GTA has been a system seller. This isn't an exclusive GTA game so I think the xbox will be ok for now.

Royce-- you and I are on the same page here. I've never gotten into any game Rockstar has made other than GTA. Maybe PS3 owners will get a huge strike of fortune w/ this new IP...but I'd say it's too early to tell until Rockstar talks about it more in depth.

They still probably don't. Paying to have another company's IP on your system first or period is different from hiring a studio to create/develop a new IP that is your property. Heavenly Sword, Lair, Resistance, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Littlebigplanet are all newly created independently developed Sony owned IP's.
Perhaps this is what Rockstar is doing. Though it I wouldn't put it passed SCE to backtrack. They've done a whole lot in July alone.

Phil Harrison says he thinks the things they offer on PSN are competitive with XBL and everyone takes the "the fuck?!? He just said he was better than XBL!" and jump on that for a 300 response thread.
Except for a few notable exceptions (Jack Tretton mainly), Sony has been shaken and quite humbled by the PS3s lack of stellar performance. And each passing month, we don't hear from them how they are number one, we hear how they plan to change things in the future. I mean, of the three, Sony is currently the MOST humble. Granted, should they pull PS3 ahead, I don't expect that aspect to stay. But at least they weren't describing their holiday lineup as a Perfect Storm.

We're told time and time again about how this game or that game is exclusive, not exclusive, exclusive, not exclusive again, there is no price cut, rumble is last gen, etc etc. So, if these people continually lie to us, why should we believe anything they say?

Is it being developed or just published by R*? I wonder what team would be making it. The only ones I can see who aren't busy are Rockstar London and Rockstar Toronto, who'll both be free after Manhunt 2 is wrapped up. Seeing as Toronto also did Max Payne and the Warriors, they might have a good chance of something great if it's them.
Could also be Vancouver once they've done the 360 version of Bully. Whoever it is, should be nice.

That video spins it like an exchange, a new IP in exchange for losing GTA IV, but in reality it's more like a consolation prize. An exclusive new IP, that may or may not be a hit, to be released possibly too far into the future to save the PS3, in no way makes up for losing exclusivity to a highly anticipated sequel to one of the best selling series in recent history!

hmm..this doesnt sound like a M$ style big-money shopping - probably not much money involved. This may be something like FF7 on PS1 - they genuinely need a lot of space for a truly epic sandbox game, which only BR can provide. Anyway, Sony has been VERY smart in terms of excluives - picking up unknown developers like Guerilla and Ninja, using the Halo 3 hype to get timed exclusivity on Haze and UT3 for free - means that this xmas PS3 has a better shooter lineup as Haze + UT3 + Warhawk > Halo 3.

The $499 PS3 pricetag is here to stay, there is absolutley NO evidence to suggest than there won't be anything to replace the 60GB PS3 when those stocks run low (in all likelyhood a bare 80GB, with no motorstorm, and perhaps an extra game and controller in the 80GB %599 pack to bring it inline with Europe)

i would take VGChartz over PS3 FanBoy numbers any day, but i also haven't looked to see what there source is either, and even if they do have 4.5 mil they still got a ways to go to catch up to either of the competition and probably never will Sony is just gonna have accept 3rd place this gen i think and hey if they survive and stay in the game they will probably be a better company after sometimes a lil slap in the face as a reminder that there not God is all it takes to put things on the right track.

Umm if you actually read my post I did say they were NOT perfect. I just find it funny that he quoted stats taken from ps3fanboy and from sony themselves.
4.5 is a far cry from what other websites are saying...
And really in the end it doesn't matter since both numbers are way under the 360 and way under the Wii. And we'll see how they do over the next few months.
