This is nice, but I'm still not buying one until it's at least $300 and there's at least 5 games for it that I'd like to own.
Neither of those criteria has been met, yet.

I want a 360, honestly. I'm also in the same boat of fearing not having a 360 if one breaks down, or it being noisy or some such. If it is louder then the wii, I probably don't want anything to do it with it.

Yet, 360 does have one of the best standard controllers I've ever seen. So comfortable feeling! I've also lasted this long to buy one, so chances are there will be a few good titles waiting for me in the bargain bin.

i honestly think if it was desperation the price cut would of been exactly the time sony announced their price cut..dont ya think guys....m$ went the longest without a price cut...was sony the shortest with one?? i dont know...if your not interested in fps/racing games then your kinda not interested in both consoles...off my head theres banjo kazooie..viva pinata..bomberman for xbl...im sure anyone else will give some others...?

All that small blurry text makes me wonder if this ain't some sort of rebate type thing, rather then a price cut. Cause to me a nonbuisness guy it doesn't make sense to do a price cut now.

I'm in the camp that Halo 3 will push systems. So why not let it get a full month of sales before you drop the price for the holidays.

And again this is in my non buisness opinion that no matter how you look at this it's a desperation / reactionary price cut. The PS3 price cut gave them good business and Nintendo (Fad or not) has been doing nothing but great sales spurred on by the fact it's the console world's version of a dirty mistress. If this is an across the board price cut it gives them a 70 to 100 dollar advantage on the PS3 with the elite and drops the core to Wii level.

If the core drops to $250, I'd like to see how that might effect Wii sales. Every knows the Wii is only selling so well because of the price tag (clearly not the game selection).

Before you flame me, I have a Wii since launch (waited for hours on launch night) and I haven't touched it in months. I'm waiting for Nintendo to give me an excuse to turn it on.

Your loss.

I think the game selection for the Wii is excellent. Just because it doesn't appeal to you (and I'm sure I know WHY) doesn't mean that it doesn't appeal to others.

People are buying the Wii for reasons BEYOND the price. People have bought the 360 and I think its pretty high priced. Not as ridiculous as the ps3 but there still $400 is definitely not chump change.

The Wii is a great system in a variety of ways. It has its faults but to say that its just price is the epitome of IGNORANCE.

I agree ^ I thought the wii was a bit of a gimmic until I played one at a friends house, its a heck of a lot of fun (Mario Strikers is a personal fav). Its refreshing to have a console that is affordable at launch and appeals to most people, not just the small hardcore minority who care only about polygons, textures, and 15+ hour gameplay. Its probably the most accessable home console since the nes and i love it :p

Well, it looks like Ill be making my way into the new gen when a.) the 360 with the 65 nanometer process comes out or b.) the price is dropped. Either way, looks like I'll finally being enjoying a 360 this fall :).

Now back to God of War and NCAA 08 on my beloved PS2.

Price is not an issue for me, its the 360s reliability that keeps me away. I tend to play for hours on end so theres a high chance I would nuke a 360. Anyway I have just put together a tasty PC rig for Gears, Bioshock and Mass Effect so I wont miss out on anything. On a side note I own both a Wii and PS3, no problems so far.
My advice is if you have the cash then buy a ps3 or a pc for now, until Microsoft update the hardware flaws, otherwise your buying hardware with a 3 year use-buy-date.

Ive had the RROD. Im on my second 360, but the new one runs like a champ. Does anyone have the facts on what they do to fix the issue when you send your console in?

I understand were getting refurbs back but what mods or retrofits are they doing in thier shop. Ive seen the suggestions for repairing it yourself, but what are the facts?

Anyway... played the "hell" out of the darkness this weekend, I was surprised at how good the game was. Guess my expectations for the game were low, as I was pleasently surprised.
