I'm looking forward to next weeks as FFVI is my favorite installment in the entire franchise.

I love Final Fantasy - though I haven't played the older games yet, this is a great way to make you wanna buy the old ones. XD

(Btw - anyone notice that Joystiq has seemed to make a deal with GameTrailers.com ever since they made a Bonus Round surrounding the blog site? ;) They keep Posting GT.com video links!)

gametrailers dropped the ball on this video it breaks near the end of the retrospective, shame but i do like how they have gotten the history of final fantasy, i didnt even know that the reason it was called final fantasy was due to the fact that FF1 was going to be the only game if it didnt sell well as it was square's last chance at survival, imagine history how it is now if things changed.

Actually, it was just Sakaguchi's last game if it was unsuccessful. He was going to quit if Final Fantasy was not successful.

Square had plenty of other games that were either out or coming out that did relatively well.

But if you recall DarkSol from the first part of the retrospective that Square did have those relatively well selling games. But they were still on bankruptcy's door. They needed a breakaway success.

I had phantasy star and phantasy star 2 before i got a chance to play final fantasy, i was okay impressed with it compared to phantasy star 1, but i guess in the long run we found out who ended up being the mainstay of the two series, the only rpg that comes close is the dragon quest series which is a shame that it wasnt or isnt a huge seller in america.

This series is absolutely phenomenal. It definitely makes me want to take a waltz down memory lane and load these games up.

I am worried about FF IV for the DS though. I wish they would just remake it like they did with the PSP versions. Nice, 2D, and faithful.

I have to agree with you. FF1 and 2 are just lovely on the PSP and I didn't care for the 3D used in 3 on the DS.

^^ I can't wait until they get to 11. It's the best one IMO and I still love playing it to this day.

In which case, you may as well buy the Gameboy Advance version of FFIV, which is pretty much a straight port of the original and which works just dandy on the DS. Personally, I'm looking forward to a III-style makeover - I loved the new graphics.

The problem with a Final Fantasy retrospective is that it will full of spoilers. It worked a lot better with Zelda in my opinion.
