Knuckles mentions before the break (at around the 50 minute mark) that one of his friends, Magic Whiskey (me), believed the Resident Evil 5 trailer to be 'racist'. I just want to speak for myself in regards to this really fast. I hope nobody is offended, and I don't mean to disrespect anyone as you read this.

I feel the RE5 trailer was offensive in the sense that the Africans didn't seem anything BUT African; not 'infected' or zombie-ish at all.
Did Capcom Japan feel that black people by themselves come across creepy enough to them not to have to embellish the supernatural aspect this time? Check the trailer at the :32 second mark; a villager looks at the camera and it's meant to be 'evil', yet it's just an African observing Chris Redfield. Was I supposed to be scared?

I ask those with an open mind to view the Resident Evil 5 extended trailer as if they've NEVER SEEN OR PLAYED any other Resident Evil game. What you see, and what the uninformed eye sees is a built (juiced) white guy shooting mobs of dirty, unathletic African citizens in a very realistic fashion, in a really realistic world. I don't like what I see.

Additionally, note that the beginning of the trailer does not show any sign that the Africans were at one time totally human, just that they were 'creepy', and eventually begin to attack Chris Redfield. I would haven't been as offended if they'd shown the natives to the village as more civilized at the start, then eventually BECOME evil by outward forces, and not as blatantly, pointlessly savage as they did come across.

The intended message was to show the village, then it's being overtaken by the 'infection', which then manifests itself by attacking Redfield. That didn't come across cleanly to me; it just seemed as if a white guy came into an otherwise dirty village with unwelcoming citizens that eventually attack the white guy. I hope you can see my viewpoint, even if you disagree.

I'm not one to EVER, EVER get irked by games like this normally. (Hell, I wanna play Manhunt 2 so badly!) I just couldn't ignore my feelings on this issue.

I don't think racism or segregation can ever be justified, and I don't like the idea that we now apparently have three groups of 'baddies' that it's OK to shoot in games: zombies, nazis, and now apparently minorities, too. I hope the latter doesn't become some trend in gaming.

Thanks for more widely mentioning that message in the podcast, Knuckles, regardless if you agree with me or not. Props!

Yet another great podcast guys.

Also I'd like to say the Knuckles was Xbox.com's gamer of the week. Check out his interview. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/personality/trixie/gamerspotlights/2007/0725-knucklesdawson.htm

Thanks 4 the podcast

I think the Resident Evil trailer was slighty disappointing, the setting takes a lot away from the original game, they should get back to the mansion instead.

Toph,

It's definitely a sensitive subject, and I hope we treated it with some tact. I *can* see your point by the way. I'm hoping -- as I mentioned in the Fancast -- that Capcom comes through on RE5. They managed to make some fairly astute social commentary with Dead Rising, and I'm hopeful the same is the case for RE5. If nothing else, I hope the storytelling at least makes everything as clear as possible.

I bet when Halo 3 comes out...Dusty'll stop playing Gears and go with Halo 3.

Knuckles...Half the time I couldn't hear what you were saying...

Another awesome podcast boys! Love the excerpt at the end!

Bravo!

to answer some questions that i guess they dont know

1.)HL2 Orange has been confirmed on 1000 Achievement points. because its 1000 per box and additional 250 for DLC

2.)Shievering Isles has not been confirmed for free to download but i think it will be simply because it is free for people who havent bought the game yet. the GOTY edition is $10 cheaper than the current version and has it in there so your paying less and getting the expansion so tech it is free for new buyers i dont know why they wouldnt give it free to the previous buyers who havent downloaded yet

Toph, arent there villagers(africans) with pots on the head all walking around nicely around the village and than it shows one guy get injected with something and his body gets all limp. Plus when [whoever the good guy is] is on the platform the africans are clearly in a posture one would not normally be, i dont know how you think africans move around but its no different from you and i and we definitly dont move like that. I see your point but the way they look definitly isnt normal.
