New Penny Arcade Adventures trailer available for your inspection
In our infinite wisdom, we refuse to join either side of this debate. It looks like the game is heavy on the solid writing and the beautiful art direction, so we guess that puts us in the underrepresented "totally what we expected" camp. Though we're attempting to stay somewhat neutral, we'd be lying if we didn't admit we were looking forward to seeing what the PA guys have cooked up. Now, let the ongoing debate commence once more!

Holy Turn-based fighting, batman!
This revelation makes me want this game fifty billion times more (and considering how much I already wanted it, that's saying a lot).
PA: RPG
blooh @ Jul 31st 2007 11:35AM
has that same bird's eye view as freedom force and the other rpg about the nuclear holocaust survivor
never played either of those, but maybe I will if I like this one. it looks cool
Word of the street. @ Jul 31st 2007 11:41AM
You never played Freedom Force?!,Man you missed a lot,the game was sick.I still have it with me.
I like the bird eye view as well, the first time I saw the screens I thought it was going to be sort of like freedom force.
Word of the street. @ Jul 31st 2007 11:38AM
I like penny arcade humor,I like the name of the game IMO is pretty cool,I sort of like RPGs but I dont like the game a 100% maybe a 45% or 65%.
But what is it Downable for the PC or something like Sam & Max?.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 31st 2007 11:38AM
I'm not a huge fan of the strips, but i still want to play this
Hobo Joe @ Jul 31st 2007 12:02PM
Having just now realized that this is an RPG, I'm much more excited to play it.
Megaqwerty @ Jul 31st 2007 3:38PM
Agreed: I had thought that this was going to be pure point-and-click adventure fare. While that's certainly awesome, I must admit that I'm much more fond of JRPG's.
Aberu @ Jul 31st 2007 12:06PM
Watching more gameplay gave me goosebumps. I wasn't too excited before, but rpg is good, very very good.
Impulse @ Jul 31st 2007 12:08PM
At best, this can be Sam and Max meets Final Fantasy.
At worst, this can make me never read Penny-Arcade ever again.
Zertoss @ Jul 31st 2007 12:12PM
LOL great trailer. "Real lots and lots of TEXT!" I lol'ed.
Everything about this game looks great to me. This will be a day one purchase for me.
hvnlysoldr @ Jul 31st 2007 12:16PM
ARRGGHJ! Only if a season comes to Wii and I'm not busy with everything else.
albinogoldfish @ Jul 31st 2007 12:41PM
oh yay...a penny-arcade game...man and I was thinking there wouldn't be any decent games coming out this year...thanks Penny Arcade!
Joe P @ Jul 31st 2007 12:47PM
If this thing is pure text and no voice overs I'll pass. Cut scenes get too tedious if you have to read a bunch of text, no matter how humorous it is.
Megaqwerty @ Jul 31st 2007 3:37PM
Not fond of Paper Mario, are we?
Avatar @ Aug 1st 2007 12:54AM
Morrowind had no voices during conversations either, and it pwned.
Burritoclock @ Jul 31st 2007 12:55PM
Already been declared that there are no voice actors.
Too be honest I was looking foward to this, and then I saw the turn based combat and so I won't be getting it. Goddamn I wish turn based "action" would die a horrible death.
Triforceowner @ Jul 31st 2007 1:17PM
If this is episodic on XBL, than I might invest in the first episode...
Grant @ Jul 31st 2007 1:26PM
lol,
That hobo attack was priceless.
"down on my luck" and flashes them a cardboard sign.
Evan @ Jul 31st 2007 2:26PM
Tell me again, what this has to do with Penny Arcade? It's not even the same characters. Well, they look kind of like Tycho and Gabe, except instead of being foul-mouth slackers, they're 1920s detectives who do a lot of running around! Where's the nerdy video-game jokes? Where's the genetalia-obsessed bathroom humor?
Rallion @ Jul 31st 2007 2:38PM
Bathroom humor? Did you miss this exchange?
Hobo: "I enjoy the effect of urine on things."
Gabe: "So, you pee on stuff?"
It was there. Watch it again.
It's really the same characters, in a different setting. Including a clockwork version of the Fruit Fucker.
I'm kinda surprised that every single person seems to be surprised to see an RPG with turn-based combat. They said that's what it was going to be ages ago.
Huricos @ Jul 31st 2007 2:58PM
man: I study the effect of urine on various things
Gabe: So you pee on stuff
Bathroom humor... check.
Supino @ Jul 31st 2007 2:47PM
man they walk great.. oh - and lotsa' text!
I'm in :D
Chris @ Jul 31st 2007 3:51PM
I really like the animation in this. Kind of reminds me of Invader Zim mixed w/ Paper Mario. I don't get a massive boner whenever someone says "penny arcade game" but I might pick this up.
Ralod @ Jul 31st 2007 6:20PM
Looks great:)
Turn based RPG? sign me up. There are too many RPG's going the RT route, good to see the PA guys going with this, it makes my pants happy.
Thierry @ Jul 31st 2007 8:45PM
Is that like a Lucas arts adventure game and a turn based rpg?
Wolff @ Jul 31st 2007 9:46PM
Penny Arcade & RPG?!? I am so there.
I also long for the "good ol' days" of turn-based RPGs. FF12 and its real-time fighting was just not for me.
Purple Haze @ Aug 1st 2007 12:04AM
This game looks awesome to me, and all their decisions seem to be going in the playable webcomic direction they want. Now I just hoe my old computer will run it!
