The full details on Halo 3's online co-op

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Master Chief, the Arbiter, N'tho 'Sraom and Usze 'Taham: The four who, on September 25th, will be finishing the fight together both on and offline. That's right ... Halo 3 supports four player cooperative play both offline via system link and online via Xbox Live. Split-screen play, we should note, is still regulated to only two player co-op, but those two can still join another group both on- or offline for the full, four player experience.
The journey itself begins like everything else in Halo 3, in a lobby. From there you simply gather your team per usual, load up your campaign and proceed to kill Brutes with much greater efficiency than ever before. Your wacky antics can then be relived as the saved films feature will allow you to take both screenshots and video of your co-op exploits.
Check out Bungie's update for all the lore, challenges and suggestions regarding this new way to experience Halo.

Ohhhhh damn thats the story right there in the friggin pic. Elites help masterchief save erf. GJ bungie.
Pyramid Head @ Jul 31st 2007 9:18PM
Yeah? Was that supposed to not be known? It's generally known that Halo 3 is the return to Earth, and the human/elite team-up was pretty much the whole ending of H2.
CHINESE BABON @ Jul 31st 2007 5:36PM
Now all you idiots who were jumping to conclusions because Bungie did not announce Co Op because they werent ready can shut up.
Stupidiot @ Jul 31st 2007 5:36PM
It's great news, but I'd still much rather play two player co-op than with a rabble of friends.
Truepatriot @ Jul 31st 2007 5:41PM
you still can fool.1-4 players not only 4.u can play with 3 2 1.
Jake @ Jul 31st 2007 5:48PM
Fortunately for you, you can.
My guess is that 2p on Legendary will still be the standard mega-challenge of the game. To make 4p still difficult they would have to monkey with player health, enemy health, weapons strength, etc. I don't see that working very well.
This is going to be so fun. I can't wait. That saved feature film will lead to a lot of hilarious and memorable Halo moments circling the web. Good stuff.

Stupidiot @ Jul 31st 2007 5:41PM
Nah, I just prefer 2 player co-op to a larger group for some bizarre reason.

Splinter @ Jul 31st 2007 5:40PM
Thats good to hear. I hate how they've started releasing all of these games that have only online co-op. One step forward and 2 steps back.

Bloo @ Jul 31st 2007 5:42PM

OO Ski @ Jul 31st 2007 5:43PM
Oh Snap Son!! This is a big, "In Yo Face!!" to all those who doubted because they read speculation as the truth!! Ssssss... burns doesn't it?
But all in all, great news right?!
Stupidiot @ Jul 31st 2007 5:49PM
I never said that you couldn't, I was just stating my preferance
Stupidiot @ Jul 31st 2007 5:51PM
This was supposed to be a reply to Truepatriot and Jake...
bounchfx @ Jul 31st 2007 5:52PM
I'd gladly play as one of the people that aren't master chief. in fact, i enjoyed playing arbiter as much if not more. I don't understand why people bitch about it, it's bad ass.
Charli3 @ Jul 31st 2007 5:55PM
It's gonna suck to be players 2, 3 and 4...
All hail the Chief!
Kye @ Jul 31st 2007 5:55PM
Ive got a fiver that says it'll be 38 hours or less before someone puts up a pic of porn as their user pic.

Woot! Bungie continues to roll out the good news and surprises...I don't know what else they could be holding onto but I've already heard enough to pre-order this game 3 times over.
Grindstone @ Jul 31st 2007 6:03PM
I'll agree to that. My wants have been met, anything else is bonus material.
As for playing the other elites, I don't think it's that big of a deal, because you don't 'see' your character anyway. So I will be okay with whatever, quite frankly.
ExMcloud @ Jul 31st 2007 5:58PM
@ Bounchfx
I agree the one in the blue armor is mega bad ass. Elites and Chief FTW. Everyone who wants to play H3 on Live when it comes out post your gamertags...and I'll add you immediately time to get back on H2 to train...Oh and for those who don't know the Carbine is urber Leet this time so don't get mad if you play Elite. It was just as strong if not stronger than the BR on the BETA

I want it!
ssuk @ Jul 31st 2007 7:13PM
Microsoft needs to introduce like, a Day pass for Xbox live. I can't afford months worth of XBL subscription and would never have time to take full advantage of that time. A day pass would get me very interested, as then I can cherry-pick which days are good for me to sit down and play online. I'm sure there's many of life-having Xbox users who feel the same way too.
ssuk @ Jul 31st 2007 7:14PM
Oops, was meant to reply to person below. =(
Wes @ Jul 31st 2007 10:41PM
Well, you could try using one of the many 'Free' refer a friend or free 1-10 day trial passes that you get free with games all the time.
It would only work once afaik but you could do a one-time 10 day trail when Halo 3 come sout. It would probably be long enough to pass the single player one to three times if you play 2-3 hours a night. (Depending on length of single player. If its like GOW, 10 hours or so).
blooh @ Jul 31st 2007 6:01PM
but will you need live gold for it?
mcclintock @ Jul 31st 2007 6:04PM
yes
Truepatriot @ Jul 31st 2007 6:04PM
yes,all live games require gold to play online.
blooh @ Jul 31st 2007 6:12PM
damn
Bloo @ Jul 31st 2007 6:01PM
Since Godisamyth and FrankTheCrank are apparently absent (or banned)... "While 4p co-op sounds great, how are you going to play it with your RROD?"
Damn I'm excited...
BNinjaC @ Jul 31st 2007 6:04PM
That picture just killed Halo 3 for me.
/bins 360
/digs original Xbox out
/plays Halo 1
qbix @ Jul 31st 2007 6:22PM
The picture above doesn't kill Halo 3, it makes it 10 times more desireable. Come on, three of your friends and you going through campaign, wether you are goofing off, exploring the maps or actually completing missions, and on top of that have the ability to record all the action as a saved film doesn't sound fun to you?
BNinjaC @ Jul 31st 2007 6:52PM
Four player online co-op confirmed is great news, no argument from me about that.
I simply don't like where bungie are taking the story and for a campaign mode I need a good story to carry me along.
I genuinely hope I turn out to be wrong but going on the evidence on Halo 2 [SP] it seems to me to be a case of diminishing returns.
Grindstone @ Jul 31st 2007 6:06PM
What do you think?
Answer: Duh.
DUG E. FRESH @ Jul 31st 2007 6:09PM
Can't wait!!!
Grindstone @ Jul 31st 2007 6:10PM
*sigh* The above comment was with regards to blooh, not to the tard above my comment (who, having seen one Halo 3 pic, decided to "bin" his 360 and play Halo 1 on Xbox1, despite the fact he could do on his 360).
qbix @ Jul 31st 2007 6:19PM
I don't think he owns a 360, OR an original xbox. Just click the negative sign by his comment so it fades into a color so light it's barely noticeable.
BNinjaC @ Jul 31st 2007 6:19PM
My point is the only game *I've* been looking forward to on 360 is Halo 3. It's obvious to me now that I hate the direction the series has gone in and unless there is a tidal wave of positive reviews for it, I'll not be getting it now.
Taking that into account, why do I need my 360?
You disagree? fine, nsomn
As for playing Halo via BC, the amount of random crashes I've had with 360 BC on the 2 machines I've had mean that's not an option for me. I'd rather play without having to randomly hard reset the machine.
Now GFYM
Grindstone @ Jul 31st 2007 7:19PM
"Obvious to you" that Bungie is headed in the wrong direction on a game you haven't played, and furthermore, base your decision upon an online co-op feature that you never seen in action, nor never had available before in the Halo series? I'll agree with qbix on this one, give you negative feedback, and ignore you henceforth since you are a narrowminded troll.
I bet you buy the game anyway. Any true Halo fan will. And I bet you buy a lot of other games too, because you're a liar.
BNinjaC @ Jul 31st 2007 7:55PM
Someone has a different opinion to yours, you lay out abuse to that person and then call them narrow-minded?
As I said "unless there is a tidal wave of positive reviews for it, I'll not be getting it now." which implies that IF there are good reviews then I'll consider it again. So what is your point?
As a huge Halo fanboy I'm really disappointed with the elite playable characters. I didn't like it in Halo 2 as many others didn't and I can't imagine that changing for Halo 3.
As for the "buying more games because you are a liar"
comment, just because there are games that you are looking forward to (maybe Bioshock, PGR4 etc) does not mean everyone else is.
Anyway, hit the negative button and pretend everyone agrees with you.
Marasai @ Jul 31st 2007 6:19PM
The names of the elites are weird. shouldn't they end in EE like all the others in the books did?
