I'm honestly also willing to bet they just don't want to compete with Halo 3. For better or worse, other FPS games are likely going to buried by it. It makes more sense to put it elsewhere for the time being anyway.

That said, I hope they figure it out. It'll suck if only the PS3 version can have quick access to the PC mods because I'm really looking forward to this one.

There's the fact they didn't want to compete with Halo 3, and I'm guessing he's telling the truth when he says they're trying to figure out a way to do user created content...

UT3 is still gonna be sick no matter what. Although...it can't fuck with the likes of Halo 3 and Mass Effect.

@DJ

Epic wanted to make all the new maps for Gears free too but they were overruled by Microsoft. I expect much the same here. I know they tecnically compromised by making them free in September but come on. Gears will be on the back burner to all the new stuff coming out by then.

Microsoft would much rather be making money off of these kinds of things IMO...

I don't know. Maybe the fact that Sony is offering them free, as far as I know, will sway them but I remain skeptical about these types of things...

That PS3 version of UT3 is looking pretty good, I hope Microsoft will get his head out of his ass and allow Epic to freely distribute the Mod for FREE.... The hole certification process is good and well but if Epic picks the mods and makes shore that hey work, what is the problem with that..

In the end, I imagine someone out there will have to test them all before they go up regardless... so I do kind of wonder what the concern is.

I really can't see anyone charging for these things though. Mods from Epic might be one thing, but charging for user mods brings you into very iffy territory... the creators would have to be fine with companies profiting off of their work and I really doubt they'd like that.

Isn't there a rule that if the contend is free on one console it should be on the other too. Like the Rainbow 6 contend.....

The only thing I am concerned with is the ability to use Mouse and KB to play. Thats all I want. And if 360 cant do it I just might pick u a pos3 for this feature. In a game like this, controller users have no chance, even the best of them compared to almost any mouse and kb user.

Yeah, keyboard and mouse support is higher on my wish list than mod support.

@6 the maps weren't free not because MS owns the marketplace but because MS publishes Gears of War and it's the publisher that sets prices on the marketplace...
Midways' publishing UT3.

It's a good thing Rein understands that Gears and every other game is about to get their asses handed to them by Halo 3. Good form old man, good form indeed.

people people please, one thing you have to remember is that microsoft basically owns the pc too. so no way they'll let people on pc post mods for ps3 people or even let the ps3 connect to a pc. and i know that the "content" will be on servers but microsoft can still block upload to ps3 servers and dont even think a crappy mac is going to work,

I'm not overly interested in UT3. Saying that, I'd probably get the PS3 version if they don't figure out this whole mod thing for the 360. MS promised user created content. If they're not going to allow simple map downloads, that is pure BS.

Why can't they just do it the same was as Forza 2? Or are they not willing to pay for the server space?

The feeling I repeatedly get these days when I read any of the epic stuff is that they can't be arsed with the 360 anymore. I don't know if it's because there was SO MUCH fucking hype in the run up to Gears or if they think there's no point at the moment because of H3 or what.

If just feels a bit like "we've finished with Gears on the 360 and that's that."
