NY Post sues Uwe Boll for infringement
German filmmaker Uwe Boll, well known in gamer circles for his film adaptations of video games, is being sued by the New York Post for "stealing the newspaper's trademark Web site and logos," according to The New York Sun.The situation effectively began when the Post ran a story criticizing "pariah" Boll on his use of the September 11 tragedy in the film, seen in a trailer. Boll then set up a website similar to the New York Post for use in promoting the film.
The NY Post is asking that Boll discontinue use of the websites, that ownership of the domain names be transferred to the newspaper and the ever-popular "unspecified damages."

Yuccadude @ Aug 1st 2007 4:46PM
Then you helped Uwe Boll make money, how dare you?
Bloo @ Aug 1st 2007 3:06PM
It's an obvious parody of their site. Another ridiculous lawsuit.
beans @ Aug 1st 2007 3:11PM
huh?
Prof_Chaos @ Aug 1st 2007 3:23PM
That website is terrible. If it was possible, I'd hate him even more. The trailer was bad, but some of the crap on that site was just unbelievable.
Qitsyoj @ Aug 1st 2007 3:40PM
What are you, retarded? That is the best promitional website EVER! I can't wait to see this movie!!
POSTAL ROCKS!
HotShotX @ Aug 1st 2007 3:24PM
The "unspecified damages" needs to be a total disbarring from the movie industry, for the entire Boll bloodline, just in case.

WiNG @ Aug 1st 2007 3:26PM
As much of a human turd this guy is, you can't really sue him over a parody. It's not like it's www.nypost.org/movie or something
3cubedminus3squared @ Aug 1st 2007 3:28PM
And his contribution to society is what?
Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 1st 2007 3:30PM
As much as I hate this guy, this is just an attempt by NYP to grub as much cash as possible from something that they know for a fact isn't going to cause any 'damages' other than getting their panties in a twist.
Anam @ Aug 1st 2007 3:43PM
Agreed
Jerk Face @ Aug 1st 2007 3:42PM
That picture makes me laugh every time.
j4yx0r @ Aug 1st 2007 3:42PM
WiNG and Bloo are right. As tasteless as this might be, parody is protected speech and this is clearly the case. All NY Post is going to succeed in doing is to bring a lot more attention to Boll and his site, games and films... which is probably a driving reason for him doing this in the first place

Wow. It's the stupid suing the stupid. Damn you Joystiq for making me laugh uncontrollably at work.
dvdguy @ Aug 1st 2007 3:57PM
Why can't this guy and Jack Thompson have a baby and then all three of them die in a parasailing accident?
Night Elve @ Aug 1st 2007 4:16PM
I guess people is stupid enough to wish death to other people.
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Aug 1st 2007 3:58PM
This is just like Alien Vs. Predator...whoever wins, we lose.
Todd @ Aug 1st 2007 4:04PM
I could never get the New York Times website and the Postal website confused. A person would have to be a true idiot to do so, in that case, would be more likely to go watch Postal than read the New York Times.
samfish @ Aug 1st 2007 4:10PM
I gotta side with Boll on this one.
He's trying his best, it seems, but it's REALLY hard to stink more than the New York Post.
REUYL @ Aug 1st 2007 5:05PM
Couldn't they have just sued him for being Uwe Boll?
Todd Rabanus @ Aug 1st 2007 5:39PM
looked at the website and uwe boll deserves to get his ass beat repeatedly with a dildo until he dies. an excerpt from the website.
"All 3,000 victims of the World Trade Center attack were not heroes.
They were bankers! People who would let nothing stand in the way of making a quick buck!
Why are these people heroes?
Because they died? Because they were Americans?
I have the details on every single victim that day...
proving that each and every one of them deserved to die!"
I know that the website is in parody and understand that, but DO NOT insult the innocent people that died on one of the most tragic days in America's history. To ridicule the dead, and indirectly families and children of the victims who may be going to school for the first time this year without their mommy/daddy to be there with them, is beyond tasteless.
If Uwe boll is still offering people qa chance to box him then I would love to take him up on his challenge in the name of the 3,000 people he insulted that cannot defend themselves because they are dead.
cmonkey @ Aug 1st 2007 7:53PM
There's no way Boll was clever enough to come up with the stuff on that site. There had to be some direct Running With Scissors involvement there...
Hart704 @ Aug 1st 2007 8:02PM
It's time for the New York Post to laugh at itself. It's only a joke!
Todd Rabanus @ Aug 1st 2007 8:24PM

aristokrat @ Aug 2nd 2007 12:50AM
His video making fun of the NY Post "catering to the lowest common denominator" was kind of funny. I don't really understand the point of the movie, but I'm guessing, as a non-American, he is trying to show just how ridiculous this whole international situation has become. Everyone is fighting in the name of something, but that's not what is going to fix anything. That's my only guess as to his intentions, and I can understand how a European wouldn't mind taking a few potshots at Americans; we're still licking our wounds from six years ago, the Euros are still getting attacked on their home turf. While I'm not anti-Iraq or anything, I'm surprised more "Democrats" haven't jumped on his bandwagon.
cgeorge @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:37AM
Well, I don't really care what he has on the site. It's obviously a publicity stunt for the movie. However, if you look closely, he did steal images from the real site (even including a trademark symbol), so he did violate copyright in that way. I could see him having to pay a reasonable fine and having to change the images for doing that, but turning over the domain makes no sense. Of course, there's no way of telling whether or not the New York Post is actually involved with this, simply creating a false news story to make people think that they are suing him. It's been done before.
DESU @ Aug 2nd 2007 12:46PM
while we all sure as hell want to hurt uwe boll, the lawsuit seems like bull and wont hold up in court.
db26 @ Aug 2nd 2007 6:27PM
Now here's a thinker: Which is more laughable, Uwe Boll or The Post?
