Today's wildest video: Wolf Quest
In what could be the greatest game trailer of all time, this Wolf Quest video introduces the December, 2007 simulation title. You play a wolf capable of forming a pack with other players online, where you do wolfy things, like hunting, peeing on stuff, and howling. The game, being released through the Minnesota Zoo, will be a free Mac/PC download. The trailer strikes an uncanny balance of mediocre (read: hilarious) production values and game content that genuinely looks fun. While the educational game may skew towards a younger audience, any animal fan might enjoy the title.
Screw Okami and Twilight Princess. See the new alpha dog after the break.

Looks bad. Very bad.
ThornedVenom @ Aug 1st 2007 12:13AM
Zomg, the death of online RP! All you need now is a dragon thingy, a Harry Potter thingy, a "high school" thingy, etc... damn kids. >_
Hannibal @ Aug 1st 2007 12:14AM
Looks terrible, but the concept of an animal MMO where you could get like 50 buddies hanging off an elephant trying to take him down with everyone who took him down getting an extra awesome meal that levels you up or something would be awesome.
Sam @ Aug 1st 2007 12:33AM
I'm with you, the basic idea is intriguing and I hope someone else picks up on it. Okami did an interesting thing where you could "see" scents, and doing something like that with a MMO Animal game would be really interesting.
ThornedVenom @ Aug 1st 2007 4:29AM
You've just given me an idea for an MMO. Basically, you get to choose to be an animal in the animal kingdom and you interact with other players who have chosen other animals.
Work your way through the food chain. ;)
Garold @ Aug 1st 2007 12:16AM
I'm SO buying that when it comes out.
NintendoFanbot @ Aug 1st 2007 12:18AM
Oh joy! An MMO version of the website this very special Something Awful article talks about!

Part of me is ashamed to admit this, but I've done IRC Wolf roleplay.....I know. It's entertaining at times, whatever.
But this brings a new aspect to it, I've always wondered if something like this would ever be released or not, and now, here it is..and all I can say is, hellz yeah.
Aroo roo roo!
rokerovakero @ Aug 1st 2007 12:35AM

ohh yes... I SMELL ELK!
Shagittarius @ Aug 1st 2007 1:26AM
It looks like 'A Dog's Life' engine with some tweaks. Even the music sounds very reminicent of that game. Perhaps they hired the same team to make this game?
shivr @ Aug 1st 2007 1:31AM
oh jesus, its gonna be all furries on that thing. I'm already frightened...
blooh @ Aug 1st 2007 1:37AM
i know man. they're gonna hook up online with elementary kids playing this and they'll be sexual predators
it's sad
Derick @ Aug 1st 2007 1:52AM
sexual predators?
Nah, they're gonna be real predators.
Oh yea.
Sam Kalman @ Aug 1st 2007 2:07AM
I helped design some of WolfQuest in late 06/early 07. And I can confirm that it is not the same team that created "A Dog's Life". It's being built with the Unity3D engine. Should be a great title when it comes out, and it's great to see it getting coverage on Joystiq.
Vexorg @ Aug 1st 2007 2:28AM
The first person to find a player on this game without one bizarre fetish or another wins.

I'm not knocking it til I try it. Sure, it doesnt look the best, but come ON, it's free and possibly very educational for young students.
Hey, maybe they'll be in many grade school computer labs across the country if successful. Remember Oregon Trail?
Now if you dare diss on Oregon Trail I'm gonna make a rope out of your pubic hair and strangle you with it.
And to Derick's reply: HIGH FIIIVE!
blooh @ Aug 1st 2007 6:23PM
oregon trail ruled, but i preferred yukon trail after it came out, you could make hella bank by staring during the gold nugget under the cup game
and of course the carmen sandiegos were awesome too, i had the high score all year :)
LaughingTarget @ Aug 1st 2007 9:09PM
I'd like to point out that this game was done before. Early 90's. PC game called Wolf. Was actually very entertaining. It was followed up by Lion, but it was the same game with a different graphics pallet.
pmasterfunk @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:02AM
this game looks pretty cool actually
.. teaming up with 100 other wolves and take out an enemy pack ..yes
sounds amazing
