C’mon how can you say the Wizard is not good?, just because parents everywhere were forced by their kids to pay to watch a Giant Nintendo ad dressed up like a movie you cant say it isn’t good, It had the POWER GLOVE and SUPER MARIO Bros 3 (Lmao).

And yet is not worst than that Tom Hanks movie/scam, what was the name of that movie again?, I believe it was FedEX.

I don't think Ebert & Roeper review direct to DVD releases. Advent Children was released that way, right? I don't recall even hearing about a limited theatrical release, but I could be wrong.

P.S. No Street Fighter? The horrible ending to Raul Julia's career and the complete ruining of the Blanka character gets no Eibert love?

I searched for just about every video game movie ever released (Even The Last Starfighter!) and these were all the ones available.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Street Fighter will surface someday.

Ebert liked Final Fantasy but said it wasn't a "videogame" movie - technically true, but that's not how he meant it.
So, any movies he does like lose their attachment to the inferior media of videogames (his opinion, not mine).
Critics are useful when not pretensious (sp?), almost never - for film anyway.

You're close, i think its "Pretentious"

But yeah, Film critics seem to think of themselves as a higher breed of opinion, but honestly that's all their work boils down to. The problem is that the powers-that-be in the film industry don't let the kind of person who, say, preferred the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie to "Rocky" get into any kind of influential critical position

The top of the critical pecking order is remarkably monotonous

I used to think film critics were "Pretentious", but I'm finding that as I'm getting older, I'm starting to agree more with film critics. And I'm starting to like Oscar-winning films. If I was to make a list of the movies I liked best of the past year, I'd have to rank two Oscar winners at the top: The Departed, Pan's Labyrinth! And I'm getting bored with many action movies, I'm now finding those movies to be too "shallow".

Thanks for the replies.

I agree with both of you - sorta.
The problem with critics is that they have to constantly stay ahead of everyone else or else they lose their own sense of "edge". So you get post, post, post, retro, rehashed, post modern outlooks.
Nothing can be good on its merits, it has to be good because it's a tribute to or the antithesis of whatever was before.
That said, I loved Departed and Pan's Labyrinth and the Oscars are generally spot on. Except when they choose movies like Gladiator over Crouching Tiger. That was BS.

Technically you're right. The problem is that there really aren't any video game critics that exist. Reviewers, sure. But not critics.
There have been a few half-assed attempts by people on the internet, but they usually just come off as being overly critical of non-crucial elements and saying otherwise good games suck.

I'm sure that sooner or later video games will get a prominent person who can get below the surface eloquently put into words what truly makes a game good (or bad) by doing more than basically just describing it's game play mechanics or elements.

• The Wizard (1989) –The best of that movie was the power glove and SM3 and that’s all what I have to say about it well that and the remark it was just a Giant Nintendo Ad.
• Mortal Kombat (1995)-This Movie was fantastic, it hold as its own as one of the best movies with the best soundtrack ever, really It used the name of the character properly and hell I even started to think Mortal Kombat had a plot, It was EXCELLENT too bad its sequel was so damn lame and lackluster.
• Super Mario Bros (1993)-Weird dude just weird, it was like if the Director, the producer and the writer played Super Mario while being on an Acid Trip and then they decided to make a movie about it.
• Wing Commander (1999)-I don’t know if I didn’t watched it or I just don’t remember but if I did it wasn’t very memorable either way I think it was Bad
• Double Dragon (1994)-Ha-ha I watched on Tv once Hilarious, reminds me of a 3 ninja movie, kind of lame like a Karate kid rip off.
• Doom (2005)-ONE Word: Disappointing.
• Resident Evil (2002, 2004)-Kinda of cool even if the whole Resident Evil plot was missing it was cool.
• Tomb Raider (2001, 2003)-Awesome, I mean until George Lucas and Steven Spielberg decide to make another Indiana Jones movie this is pretty Cool.
• Dungeons & Dragons (2000)-lol even Eragon was better, this movie was laughable. It wasn’t bad but every D&D fan out there who thought this was going to be good was B slapped. Again it wasn’t bad but lol.
• Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) –If there was a In 5 seconds review of this movie it would be the same as the Matrix…WOW.

Word: I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on D&D. It was NOT worse than Eragon as I was actually able to finish watching D&D. Eragon is one of the worst movies I have had the displeasure of seeing. Not that that makes D&D a good movie, mind you.

Also, while Wing Commander was unmemorable, it wasn't a bad movie. I actually found it enjoyable to watch. I'd give it a solid B.

So I’m not the only one who doesn’t remember crap about wing commander.
But I have to say I disagree with you, Mortal Kombat was genius back in the Time A+ considering it was a Movie based on a game and it was ridiculously good.

Bullcrap I watched Mortal Kombat all my life and I say it was one of the best movies ever.
Compare Mortal kombat with street fighter movie and you will see the difference.
Also it could be that you are confusing it with Mortal Kombat 2 which was a pile of stemaing poo.

In the context MK1 was enjoyable.

Yeah - that's why I gave it a C+. The first time I saw it I thought I liked it until I realized it was 1200 screaming fans at Mann Chinese that made it entertaining. On second viewing, the movie was not that good.

The Wizard was great

Mortal Kombat was good

Super Mario.. I liked it, but I was 12 so I didn't have good taste then.

Wing Commander.. Oh god that was bad. Really bad. I would rather watch Mortal Kombat 2 or a Bowe movie over that.

D&D: Not really a video game movie. But, it still stank. Tom Baker was the best actor in the movie. Even if he only had 5 mins of screen time.

Final Fantasy: I was worried about the story when I heard the tib bits about it. I was write. That movie was NOT Final Fantasy. More like Final Bad Dream. Ironic how a game that was named for being a company's last game was rightfully named for a Movie company's last movie.

I just watched the Wizard review, and it's surprising to me that it's a great review. I would have mentioned that it is a kids movie, so lacks much of the depth needed to suck someone in. But they made some great comments using common sense which you don't see in these hollywood fantastic entertainment tonight type of shows...

Wow, Siskel tore into Double Dragon (arguably my favorite of the movies listed). Ebert didn't like it either but at least he said kids may like it.
