Crysis launching November 16
Shh, do you hear that? It's the sound of your wallet, and it's crying over all the AAA titles due out this holiday season. Electronic Arts has added to the pain by announcing that Crysis is due out Friday, November 16 for PC only (for now, at least).
The release of Crysis will mark the first commercial launch of a game using CryENGINE2. How will it stack up against Epic's Unreal Engine 3 when Unreal Tournament 3 is also launched this holiday? Polygons will be measured against polygons; you better have a ruler handy.

Lets hope NVidia fixes their 8800 memory issues by then.
qbix @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:25PM
Let's also hope I get a tax return next year so I can afford one. Unless I can run this game at 30fps minimum with a 1920x1200 res without having to turn all kinds of settings off, I will hold off on it. I want to run this game on a good system. Thankfully I'll have Halo 3 while I save for upgrades.
Mikeo @ Aug 2nd 2007 6:33PM
Just get the ATi. The 7.8 driver revision is shockingly (annoyingly to nVidia) good and I expect 7.9/8.0 to even beat that. With 7.8, it's closer to the GTX than ever.
It bakes cakes too!
Eric @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:04PM
Is there any doubt now that 2007 is shaping up for one of the great years in gaming history? I'd start a list of great games coming out, but I'm pretty sure most of us know them all by heart.
Captain Jody Anthony XVIII @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:11PM
I'm with you on this
Anam @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:15PM
Jody, you removed your avatar! I was just kidding with you man (or woman).
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:05PM
I dont know to much about this game... does the protagonist fight only againts humans, or he will fight against creatures and that kind of stuff?
The only videos that I have seen are from the jungle, and thats it. =(
cc123 @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:06PM
He will be fighting aliens later in the game.
Jenova @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:08PM

Badass.

Crysis wins hands down agaisnt Unreal 3. Maybe then some people willtart to want to use Cryengine2. In my opnion Cryengine2 is far better than the Unreal 3 engine. This game is gonna rock. Can't wait.
Zeus the God @ Aug 2nd 2007 3:09PM
The engines are going after 2 different things.
UE3 - Detailed textures
CryEngine2 - Being able to handle tons of objects on screen efficiently and using physics to their full advantage.
Details - UT3
Shear amounts of polygons - Crysis
riggs @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:17PM
who says some of us are going to pay to play? ;)
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:21PM
That box art needs more Samus.
Stevo @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:26PM
Looks good-- unfortunately I'm gonna need Dr. Evil's Cryofreezing chamber to overclock my Processor to the requirements of Crysis... At least the consoles are getting some love this winter too :)
Shawn D @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:26PM
FPS fans rejoice! It's here! Well, almost. This holiday is just crazy people. The good thing is, the wifey likes the Wii, so all Nintendo needs to do is release Mario Galaxy, and that should keep her busy this winter! That should give me plenty of time for Crysis and the 20 other games coming out :P
pete @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:36PM
Hey Joystiq, how about a roundup of all the great AAA titles, by platform/console, coming up? It would def. help me keep track!
Jerk Face @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:55PM
Hell yeah, I second that. That would be really, really nice! It's hard to keep track!
Jeff @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:40PM
Two days after my birthday. I might treat myself to a second 8800 gts in SLI for this =P
robert @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:44PM
Is this the first use of the CryENGINE2, and was there a CryENGINE1?
3cubed minus 3squared plus1 @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:57PM
CryENGINE2 is just two CryENGINE1's duct taped together.
Tukulito-Zakayama @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:12PM
CryEngine 1 was used in Far Cry for PC....
steve @ Aug 2nd 2007 6:45PM
cryengine, because it makes you cry knowing how much your going to spend on PC upgrades to run this thing
Miles Pulsford @ Aug 2nd 2007 6:47PM
@ 3cubed minus 3squared plus1
thats possibly the funniest comment on joystiq this year, IMO. kudos.
XGM @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:51PM
I still think the game is all hype... Hopefully they don't pull a EA, and nerf the GFX after all the demo vids and such.

Time to warm up the time machine to travel into the future about 3 years to get a computer that will play this!
I'm a little excited!
FrankTheCrank @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:58PM
Is this game VISTA ONLY???
I can't see why Crytek would develop a game that could only run on 2% of systems.
Vista's attach rate is low, I doubt they even have 4% of installed PC's. To add insult to injury, how many of that 4% are uber gaming rigs?
From a business standpoint, if this game only runs on Vista and can only be run by the best of gaming rigs, they just shot themselves in the foot.
I'll be in line though, my P4 3.6ghz/ 7600 is going to attempt to run this. I might have to jump to 2GB of RAM...or just scrap the whole system and build a new one.
Tukulito-Zakayama @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:11PM
this game is for Windows XP too (Direcxt 9)...
Trent @ Aug 2nd 2007 3:08PM
Even if the game does come out for XP, the game isn't going to be as great with just running DX9. I think all "uber" gamers know this and have or will upgrade to vista in the near future.
caramelzappa @ Aug 2nd 2007 9:41PM
It's not vista only, but DX10 is. If you want all the little improvements of DX10, you need vista, but Crysis works fine on DX9 systems with windows XP as well.
boog @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:03PM
I don't see what the big deal is, these screen shots don't look "that" much better than reality. lol
FrankTheCrank @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:09PM
Yeah, i agree. They look very DX9. They definitely don't look like those DX10 shots they were showing.
FYI folks:

* Optical Drive: DVD;
* Software: DirectX 10 with Windows Vista
steve @ Aug 2nd 2007 6:48PM
@ frank,
since this is dual-core recomended, u think this is going to be one of the first games that takes advantage of multi-cores? If so, that 45nm quad core intel is looking really attractive right about now.
caramelzappa @ Aug 2nd 2007 9:38PM
@steve
Crysis dynamically takes advantage of all your resources, including duel or quad core systems. It's not the first though, Half Life 2: Episode 2 and a few others will support multiple cores, and are being released before crysis.

Hm...
I have a:
2.6ghz amd 3800+
1GB ram (upgradeable to 4)
8600 GTS dx10 card
win xp...
i was just going to get orange box but may i could try this after getting another GB of ram...dunno...
MONGO @ Aug 2nd 2007 3:43PM
Am I glad this game is finally coming out? Yes indeed.
Do I for one solitary minute believe that EA is holding it back until November 11th to fix bugs, instead of taking advantage of the holiday season? Nope.
Arturo @ Aug 2nd 2007 3:43PM
whoops make that 2.4ghz
manford @ Aug 2nd 2007 3:57PM
PC gaming is soooooooo dead to me.
I mean seriously, maybe 1 or 2 AAA titles are released on the PC yearly and to take full advantage of said titles, consumers are forced to spend upwards of $500 in gfx card and memory improvements on an annual basis.
console gaming FTW
steve @ Aug 2nd 2007 6:51PM
that's why pc gamers are so 1337, because we have the bank to do it. (god, I can't believe I said 1337... I'm so going to hell)

And you don't need to spend 500$ a year to keep up unless you are amazingly uninformed.
Stupidiot @ Aug 2nd 2007 4:21PM
This game (along with the fact that a lot of games I have on my current computer run poorly) is why I will be building myself a brand new computer for £1500... Now where am I going to find the money to buy all the games coming out this year?
OrganicShadow @ Aug 2nd 2007 9:19PM
They both have their strengths and weaknesses. They both look awesome, but the Crysis engine seems better suited for big outdoor environments and UE3 seems better suited for an even mix of medium-to-large outdoor areas and indoor areas as well.
If you've seen any screens or videos of the PC version of GoW you might want to reconsider how well UE3 sizes up against CE2.
caramelzappa @ Aug 2nd 2007 9:36PM
To all the people complaining about not being able to run it to it's full potential, do some research. One company was able to get a hold of the game a few months back and test it, and they were able to run it on ultra high settings with an E6600 and an 8800GTS. Granted, these aren't exactly cheap, but they are certainly not top of the line either, and playing any new game at the highest settings always cost a bit. If you don't mind turning a few features off, you can buy a less powerful card, and if you want to save a few bucks get a lower end core 2 duo and overclock it. Also keep in mind that the engine is still being optimized so it will run even better on a wider range of hardware by the time it's released.
Emceay @ Aug 3rd 2007 9:04PM
Shh.. you hear that? It's the sound of my wallet wanting to invest in this season's booming gaming market.
