Now, we know there's a temptation to think that the materials will be about the rumored 360 price drop. But, as we're sure that Microsoft would tell you were they here, it could be about anything. Maybe it's a ... super secret new Zune. Hmm, you're not buying it. Yeah, neither are we. We'll let you know when one of our super spies takes a picture of the materials with their ballpoint pen camera before activating their stealth suit and shimmying out a heating duct.

It's easy to jump to conclusions, but it's even easier to be wrong. Besides, all those circulars leaking the price drop were dated the following week, not the week of the 8th.

My nephew bought a Premium X360 from Target on the 27th, so if this is true he should be able to price adjust within 14 days to get $50 back (which he'll promptly use to pick up Forza 2, I'm sure).

Unfortunately, like 10 places have already leaked the August 12 price drop. This August 8 announcement could be for the Aug 12 drop or perhaps a pre-emptive drop because everyone decided to wait until the 12th.
I am hoping it is something different altogether. Something I don't know about.

I would assume it's the price drop, since advertising this early would be really bad for business, but then again, do you really need Microsoft to send materials to advertise this? All you need is some new price tag stickers.

I've gone through 5 (and scratched and ruined 2 separate discs). i sold my last 360 roughly a month and a half ago, and will never ever ever pick up another, just for the simple fact that the jagoffs in support are the lowest form of fucking idiot on the planet, and i would rather swallow a pair of scissors than put myself in the situation that i even had a .0001% chance that i may have to call them again.
if you can put up with shitty hardware and shittier support.. then more power to you.

I agree with Whizthekid... The Halo 360 is probably exclusive to Gamestop just like the Halo Zune.

Whats wrong with you? The PS3 and 360 have almost the exact line-up This HOILDAY season except for you guys having around 5 exclusives and PS3 having around 8.. Its not fanboy-ism, its just facts!!!
Instead of worrying what M$ is going to announce with Gamestop, you should be asking yourself:
1. What are you going to be playing after this "Halo saga" ends?
2. What other games does M$ have planned for next year besides Halo Wars and RE5(mulitplatform)?
Oh yeah, if you cant find any AAA titles for 360 next year, you and every other 360fanboy can always stay up and play "Viva Pinata". That game is looks fun(sarcasim)!!!

Really - you probably also think that "HALO IS THE ONLY GOOD XBOX GAME" even with stuff like Panzer Dragoon and KOTOR and...heck, Halo 2.
The 360's current software lineup slaughters the PS3's, and the holiday season will shift it even more in Microsoft's favor. I like how you count "5 vs. 8" exclusives, but ignore what the exclusives actually are. The PS3's exclusives are shit compared to the 360's. Halo 3 ALONE trumps anything the POS3 three has.

IMO more people should go into the xbox than the Wii.IT has better games and a big amount of them,online and good graphics and it doesnt cost as much the PS3.
The announcement could be:
A)General price drop,which is the most expected because well Toy R us leaked.
B)Scene it.
C)MGS4 coming to the x360.Lol just kidding but I bet some fat kid pissed off when he read this.
D)Halo stuff or the xbox360 halo maybe?.

microsoft NEVER has any exciting news. this announcement will probably be something incredibly lame like - "yes, the rumors are true. we're dropping in price." boring.
the 360 is slipping into 3rd place and this price drop news isn't really news anymore nor is it of any interest to people who already own the system.
how about announcing some new software development beyond 07, or announcing that Live will be free, etc. otherwise - remain in 3rd place.

by the way - the new Zune isn't super secret. it's been in development and they weren't really secret about it. there will be 2 versions: a new, slimmer Zune, and a flash based Zune.

When did the PS3 pass it in sales? Heck, for that matter when did the Wii pass it? I'm so confused...
And before we start adding "replacement systems" into the mix for the 360, don't forget that there were a ton of those for the PS2 that no one pays the slightest bit of attention to.
