No, Lair was delayed because the developers are embarassed to release that mess the way it is right now.

I'm just annoyed that Sony is just now doing this. The Heavenly Sword demo would've been much better with rumble, as would be Ninja Gaiden Sigma and GTHD.

Wow bak, so your friends with the developer and they not only told you they delayed it cause the game sucks, but also said go ahead and post that information on joystiq.

I can't argue with inside information like that.

At least my assumption takes a logical approach to it. Game delay announced around the same time developers get the new sixaxis in their hands. Sony doesn't want people to know how soon the new controls are comming so the developer has to stay quiet as to why they are delaying the game.

Vs.

We worked on this game for years and realized its a turd so in 2 weeks were going to change all that.

Yeah dumbass of dumbassness I think I'll go with my theory.

It's good to see Sony moving to get rumble in the controllers again. They could have just as easily said no to the addition and not listen to their customers. I have to give them credit on listening to the demands of their customer on this.

As far as I am concerned Sony always wanted to put rumble in, but until they were willing to pay immersion and team up with them it couldn't happen.

Maybe public pressure sped up the deal with immersion, but I think they had been trying to get around the patent issues and realised they couldn't.

Sony declared rumble to be a last gen feature and their fanboys agreed but now have had a change of heart? I'm confused, most of you guys were convinced that rumble is gimmicky and didn't bring anything innovative to the table right?

I hope this new rumble works good: those were one of the reasons which killed the idea of me saving up cash for a home console.

New rumble + lower price (who needs 80GB?) = Not so bad considering that it's a cheap Blu-Ray player and multimedia hub... and sorta like a computer with Linux support.

I can't say I blame Sony for spinning that stuff about rumble. You have to save face when crappy legal issues happen like they did. Each group has spun so much, Sony with the rumble (and other things), Microsoft with RRoD (and other things), and Nintendo with graphics (and other things.

now who's going to be the first to use the name "SUXAXIS" when referring to the controller?

nah no point to go there, even though i have no wish to buy a PS3 at its current price, but i still think they would benefit from switching the d-pad and left analog, someone may scream blasphemy lol but fact still remains that the first most used input should be put in place as such were its most easy and comfortable place.

I don't think there's any reason to get rid of it completely. Just make sure there is always an option to turn it off and use a different control scheme, kind of like how they normally implement rumble. For the most part I don't like rumble, it's very overused, and having it constantly shake while I'm pressing triggers and buttons aggravates my hands. I don't want it gone completely though, because every now and then a game uses it really well (like GTA or MGS).

And you think analog is accurate? You think that moving a 1/2" nub through a 1" range of motion gives you accuracy?

Conversely, you think that having a wand that can sense its orientation to the half degree (or smaller) in the same 2 axis as your stick is less accurate? When it can pick up even the shake of your hand in its readouts, this is less accurate?

Do you even know what this word means?

i suppose better late than never. ironically, rumble will finally make motion control actually matter (as the Wii can attest). you can't involve the body (motion) without feedback (rumble), it's unnatural and the reason previous attempts at no-feedback motion control have never been more than a novelty.

unfortunately, most PS3 fans on Joystiq HATE rumble and just "turn it off", right guys?

yeah, expect that to change.

you said it Joshua. and getting mind **ked in Metal Gear Solid on PS1, and picking locks in Splinter Cell on xbox1, changing gears and feeling the inside of a turn (or other car) in any good racing game....

on consoles, its exactly when you're NOT consciously aware of it, that it gets good. your subconscious knows what to do with information even if you "can't remember" feeling it.

I turn them both off. There are a few games I like with rumble, and hardly any that I use the motion sensing. Motorstorm would have been fun with motion sensing if the game wasnt so damn hard. You only have a chance with it off.

That's exactly my experience. This was very noticeable on the N64 where the rumble ran on batteries and could run out of power separate from the controller. I remember playing Goldeneye with a bunch of friends one dayt when my rumble died. Suddenly I was reacting more slowly to getting shot. Even though there were obvious on-screen cues, I had subconciously come to rely on the rumble to tell me I was getting hit. I had never realized how much I was actually using the rumble cues until that moment.

Their problem.
It's not like people didn't buy new controllers even if they had a whole bunch. If they felt ripped off they should have thought about it BEFORE they went and put the money now.

Plus, most likely if they got more than 2 controllers they aren't worried about rumble or they aren't worried about rumble coming to the controller because they'll get it regardless?

Just a thought.

---

Can't wait.

needs more weight to the controller.

What PS3 game supports 4 player local multiplayer?

I got a 2nd controller only to realize that Motorstorm doesn't have local multiplayer. Seriously. How can you make a racing game where I can't race my friend? Thankfully we found Tekken 5, so the controller didn't go to waste. I'll probably by 1 of the rumble ones when they come out, because I'm sure MGS4 will make good use of it.

When I get a PS3 I will likely turn off the Motion Sensing. I can't imagine the games use it much.

How can you play a game like Resistance by waggling the controller.

But Rumble is a must-have.

I would rather rumble controllers come a year after launch and have all sorts of other controller improvements than release a sixaxis + ds2 rumble at launch.

I think they should announce at Leipzig as the article mentioned, even if there aren't very many devs on board with the kits yet. This way at least it's out there and known and they can tide us over with a firmware update that converts PS1/PS2 games' rumble "signal" to the TouchSense rumble.

I'm probably in the 1% minority of gamers who actually don't like rumble. I can understand the idea behind it and some of it's uses, but to me, it's just damn annoying and doesn't help me in any way to get 'immersed' into a game. Most of the time, the developer really doesn't utilize effectively, so I could care less.

I used to turn off rumble on the GC because I thought it was dumb and didn't add anything. Now I leave it on with the Wii. I guess it just feels more natural when asked to movement to have movement done to you, if that makes sense.

I have a some issues with hand pain which sometimes keep me from gaming. Having the controller rattle and shake makes it a lot worse, so I end up turning it off most of the time. But I still want the option of having it for certain games.

Rumble is only good when implemented well.

Like a survival horror game when everything is spooky and all of a sudden, your controller "seems" to vibrate for no reason.... or in a good shooter game where you sense getting shot, thus triggering your reflexes, or for simulating recoil.

It's just an extra little thing which actually makes a neat difference. =)

Not having rumble didn't make or break the deal for me. remember though this isn't your daddy's rumble feature this is supposed to be new and improved. If that actually turns out to be true maybe it will be more entertaining...I certainly reserve judgement for the final product.
