Achtung! 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein' flick incoming
Smack dab in the middle of QuakeCon, Variety brings news that Silent Hill movie producer Samuel Hadida has secured the movie rights to id Software's Return to Castle Wolfenstein, with Silent Hill writer Roger Avary tapped to both write and direct the new project. Avary said, "I've been playing the character of B.J. Blazkowicz since the epic Wolfenstein 3D first bruised my brain and have ever since wanted to bring his adventures to life on the bigscreen." We're not doctors, but we're quite certain a significant amount of cranial bruising would be necessary before considering the story of B.J. Blazkowicz well-suited for the silver screen.
Of course, solid details on the next Wolfenstein game have been holed up in a bunker for years and tonight's QuakeCon keynote by John Carmack and Todd Hollenshead is as good a place as any to unveil new details. Just sayin' ...
[Thanks, Ethan]

I can think of a million other games would make a movie.
Well, not a million...but why Wolfenstein? How about something relevant?
On the other side of things, I just finished watching Children of Men. Pretty dope flick, I think it would make a real tight game. WELL...it COULD.

I wonder if it will be as good as Doom with The Rock.
Word of the street. @ Aug 3rd 2007 3:52PM
Was that considered good?
It resemblance to Doom was insignificant and undistinguished.
Best case scenario it would be a good terror/gore flick.

We're talking Return to Castle Wolfenstein here, not Wolf3d.
So you have the whole indiana jones expedition thing mixed up with nazi occult crap.
It should be a good film, at least on it's premise. A better film than game, and the game was actually pretty good.
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 3rd 2007 2:00PM
Except the Indiana Jones did go after the Nazis. And the first one was censored. In fact id got so mad they gave code to some developer and made an unlicensed Christian game, Noah's Ark 3D.
Anam @ Aug 3rd 2007 2:02PM
Someone has been watching the Angry Video Game Nerd!
J.Goodwin @ Aug 3rd 2007 2:06PM
Thus Indiana Jones "expedition thing mixed up with nazi occult crap" comment. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is Indiana Jones with big muscles and bigger guns.
I'm saying it could work.

Who doesnt?, Angry Videogame Nerd is the only thing worth watching in Screwattack,I'm telling ya with out him Screwattack wouldnt be even in Gametrailers.IMO they should just stick with AVGN and give him a show after or during X-play.
AVGN Rocks.
TheWarden @ Aug 3rd 2007 4:44PM
As long as Uwe Boll isn't directing.....
I'll see it.

Rule #12 of pop culture - you can *never* go wrong with killing Nazis.
Rule #4 - big explosions are good. Bigger explosions are better.
Rule #1 - Sex sells. For example, any female dressed in dom gear.
I'm not saying that this would be high art... but between these three rules alone, RTCW would make for a hell of a popcorn flick.
James Marriott @ Aug 4th 2007 5:26AM
Enemy Territory is the best game ever, and RTCW is almost as good. It could make an OK film, but only if done right.
