I'm a PC gamer only, but I'm getting really tempted to get a 360.

Not only is Halo amazing, but multiplayer on PC cannot touch Xbox live. I'm really hoping Windows Live comes in and gives us something of the same caliber.

Yeah, Jeff, you have that the other way around.

No way would an avid, or any PC gamer at that, say that the Xbox LIVE experience is better than PC online gaming. Thats just blasphemous.

Get off my internetz.

Have to disagree with you. There's something to be said for the kind of integrated experience Xbox Live provides, where everyone is on a pretty even playing field with regard to hardware and the like.

Less cheaters, achievements and the like on every title, and no need for constant hardware upgrades. It's far from perfect, but playing with a controller on the couch after a long day beats anything a PC could provide.

Yeah, I agree w/ Justin. Also, while I love PC gaming, frustration usually sets in for me when trying to find the right server or getting hacked apart. Plus, after a long day-- I love a beer and controller on my sofa.

Generally, XBL doesn't compare to online gaming w/ a PC-- but in my opinion, Bungie's online system is second only to Blizzard's...and Halo 3 might be able to change that.

"He also mentions that co-op will be easier this time around, even with the measures they've taken to keep things challenging"

Bah. This is BS. Halo 2 legendary was a walk in the park. I mean come on, your shields recharge.. the game is just easy. To hear they made it easier is not my cup of tea. I want ultr a insane mode. MY favorite co-op game ever was pd64 cause it had a great system where if you died, you drained half your allies health, and again and again until you had no more health to take and couldent respawn. Now that was a great challenging game on co-op (on dark agent).

I wish halo was like this.

Similiar to the system used in Contra games, I loved stealing my brother's lives, ah goods times. Anywho, is it possible to play co-op and multiplayer with some one who doesn't have a gold account and have his/her name display as a separate gamertag? I hated playing multiplayer with my brother using the same gamertag name, some of us folks ain't rich enough to pay for a second gold account.

At least it's better than Gears. I couldn't figure out how to get my friend and I to play split-screen online after we played through the whole campaign that way.

As far as the names in Halo 3, I think see them as a fair warning to the other players that you and your friend can watch each other's screens.

This is the beauty of Halo. Just as Halo revolutionized FPS on consoles and Halo 2 revolutionized multiplayer on consoles, Halo 3 will make map editing, co-op and playback amazing on the console.

Hype time? Hasn't that been since the first Halo was released? Seriously, this is *THE* hype machine. No other game has received that title...

Halo creates its own hype because people are so excited for it. Bioshock, for example, has released dozens of gameplay vids, interviews, etc. They get posted, they get some attention, but a 12 minute Bioshock gameplay video will receive 5% the attention and comments as a 1 paragraph statement of Halo features. People that don't like Halo even will make over half the comments, thus hyping it further. No other game gets that.

Seriously, what has MS really done for Halo3. They aired 1 TV ad, released a multiplayer beta, and gave it the E3 focus. The E3 treatment and Beta were within months of the release of the game.

MGS4 has been the focus of two or three Sony E3's in a row, and the damn game is still over half a year from release. That is trying for some f'ing hype. Hell, Sony hyped Killzone2 using a fake trailer at one E3, then gave it an entire freaking event the next E3, and it is still half a year from release. That is trying for some hype. The only diff is that people don't really care about Killzone all that much. Not like halo.

MS doesn't pay to have Joystiq, MSN(this morning), and all these other places to constantly talk about Halo. It gets hyped by its own merits.

But you can bet your ass that as we get close to the launch you will see some actual MS bought for hype. It will get some commercials, to say the least.

Look, I'm psyched for this game too, but the amount of hype this game is getting is just too much. As good as Halo was, it isn't the greatest thing to happen to gaming. I think that Call of Duty 4 might be the next big shooter after Halo 3, but that's just me.

just my opinion.

I just find it annoying to see every other news post on nearly every website talking about halo. Halo may be one of the most popular games out there, but it is hardly as popular as people and websites make it out to be

Just a quick thing to point out: The map editor for Marathon, Bungie's first FPS trilogy for the Mac, was also named Forge.

Just to be clear, Forge in Halo 3 isn't a map editor. From what I understand, it's an extremely robust game mode editor. You can add and remove items on the map, change respawn cycles ... essentially go nuts with everything outside of creating a map.

Sorry for the news flash, but Halo hasn't revolutionized shit.

Honestly if you've been a FPS fan you can say that and I won't argue with you. Thats your opinion. It's more likely that if Halo wasn't as successful as it has been that you guys would be saying its one of the greatest shooters ever made and blah blah blah.

Now to my friend that said it revolutionized console shooters: 100 percent correct. It made FPS popular again. It brung new strategy to FPS, it brung good controls to a Game Pad, ridiculously good enemy and Ally A.I

Halo 2: regardless of what people say Halo 2 was excellent and revolutionized online console gaming for sure. It made match making based upon skill level a must for all online console games. And just to back that up Bungie received praise from developers and journalist alike. It is also the most played console online game in the history of gaming.

Halo 3: Having a video playback feature is un-heard of for a console FPS thats all I know about it right now.

Im just trying to say before all the PC and Sony FB bash Halo think about what it has done for the genre. Is it the greatest complete FPS package? Maybe? Its arguable thats all that matters. Because in my opinion you can only name 4 FPS in the same breath as Halo PC or Console.

This game deserves way more respect than people are willing to give it. Its a shame that gamers can't give a game credi when it clearly deserves it

To be honest I was one of those people who badmouthed halo all the time until one of my freinds just sat me the fuck down and had me play silent cartographer. Like crack it was.

Given that the last great FPS on consoles was PD, halo did quite a bit. It's weird that for whatever reason, it is cool to hate Halo. Dislike another major franchise and it is blasphemy buyt halo is fair game. i've gotten so much flack for saying that COD4 looks boring to me that it ain't funny. And don't get me started on how mad people get if you say you don't like PGR4 or Little Big Planet.

Lemme take off me beer goggles for a sec. Revolutionized?, I would go far as to say that, it was more of an evolution. It's built upon existing ideas and technology that many developers and gamers wanted to improve on like matchmaking and clan support. I consider Halo, the WOW of fps' not quite the innovator it is, but more solid and robust than anything before it. Bungie were bright enough to figure out what worked and didn't, and made a cohesive package.

I've been an avid Bungie fan since the original Marathon. They've always know how to make a good gaming experience. Marathon had an insane story, and it was presented in optional terminals, much like in the Metroid Prime series. The Myth series was also very good. A RTS with an emphasis on 3D terrain and no boring resource management. It had a really nice video playback feature as well. In online matches people would stick around after the match and watch the film to observe each other's strategies and laugh at the guy who blew up his team with a dwarfs molotov cocktail by accident. You could even pause during the explosions and rotate around the tiny limbs and debris flying outward. For 1997 is was pretty cool.

Halo has been great, but like all Bungie franchises, the core gameplay has remained the same, while peripheral aspects of the game are refined. I trust Halo 3 will be very good, but I'm more excited to hear about their next game. I'm really hoping that they'll go in a totally different direction from Halo. Or maybe we'll discover that working at MS has sucked out their souls and all they can make are Master Chief party games from now on.

The only thing Halo3 doesn't have is a map editor. Everything else is there. Multi AND Co-op as system link, online, and splitscreen. Large single player campaign. Very deep and very robust multiplayer. Vehicles. Different weapons, grenades, and equipment. Game footage recorder. Popularity (more people you actually know to play with).

Seriously, if it had a PC mod making package it would have every meaningful feature a shooter has ever had, ever. And mods come at the cost of having a system more open to cheats, hacks, etc. In PC, you don't even know you're being cheated half the time.

We aren't saying that Halo doest't deserve credit for what it did for the console FPS. All I'm saying is that Halo 3 is getting more hype than it needs. Joystiq puts up a whole article for every little detail that get's out there. It's rediculous.

Ok thats your call and a select few who hate on Halo. Not saying your a hater. But if you didn't notice Joystiq is as excited to play Halo 3 as the Halo Fan Boys themselves. So apparently they think people wanna know whenever there is information on the market.

I do understand your point of view also. Sometimes to much is to much which is why I don't necessarily disagree with you. But the games a month away so people are really excited. Comon name the last time the gaming industry really had so much riding on one game. This is our time to stick it to the movie and the music industry to show that games are art and they can stack up with the best of the entertainment industry. Which in turn will make more game designers necessary because more companies will open up and that in turn will mean more games for you and me.

Gnome you are correct in some ways but Bungie didn't take anything from console gaming thats for sure. I believe that since Halo was originally a PC FPS it gave them an advantage in making a solid FPS but when you look at CONSOLE shooters Halo is pretty much the Tiger Woods of FPS. You would be 100 percent correct if Halo was a PC shooter though.

Actually, I can name a few things taken from defacto console games. Splitscreen multiplayer from Goldeneye, which I think is the #1 influence that help make Halo the success that it is (besides the other good qualities of course) and it got 10x better when it went online. Co-op from Perfect Dark, very few console shooters had the feature. Voice chat (ironically, coming from Sony) and broadband support from Socom being one of the first for console shooters. Still, none of these games allow me the ability to ride a Brute Chopper with my badass armor swaps and take out noobs!! ^_^ So, screw you, Halo haters.

There's two types of hyping: when the publisher does it, and when the community does it. In the case of Halo 3, it's been the later. Microsoft has put out one commercial and a beta. Some E3 time. That's it.

Bungie is unbelievable in how many details they post about their games while making them. Seriously, how much do we even know about Haze? Besides that you can use drugs? Or Heavenly Sword? Or even Bioshock? (The later kinda surprised me the other day in that, even though I've read pretty much every possible Bioshock article out there and watched all the movies, I still really don't know what Bioshock will be like. What kind of weapon balance, plasmid variance, AI, etc. there will be.) Bungie is incredibly focused on the community, and the community rewards them by generating hype. If you've never played Halo or Marathon, you'd probably not understand it. They've kept the small-time developer mindset even as they've become one of the biggest developers out there. They're not just some big name developer that is totally separate from the gaming community. Like, say, Blizzard, where everyone loves their games but Blizzard is some enigmatic concept out there in game business land. I feel like I *know* Bungie personally, and not just their name and game portfolio. That's why Bungie gets so much hype.

P.S. Why is Bioshock and Bungie flagging spelling errors on a video game site?

Halo was always a great FPS made fantastic through robust multiplayer options along with co-op play. Halo solo was still a good experience, but multiplayer is why this series is so beloved.

I like the comment that Halo isn't revolutionary, it's evolutionary. Halo 1 made FPS controls on a console work. Halo 2 created the online matchmaking and ranking system. And now Halo 3 has the replay feature.

I'm more hyped about the replay feature than anything else. I'm hoping for lots of options, instead of just watching the replay like in the beta.
