Listen up, Trekkies. Ever since its first public unveiling, we know you've been dreaming of using the Wiimote as a phaser (set to stun, we hope) in a Star Trek video game. We know, some of those other nerds keep going on and on about lightsabers this and Dark Sith Lord that ... but we both know where the real action is. Phasers.
In a nod to our Vulcan compatriots, we've suppressed all emotion to bring you news that Bethesda has announced Star Trek: Conquest for the Wii and PS2 platforms, scheduled for this holiday (just in time for Earth's largest buying season). The game is "a blend of strategy and intense action set in 'The Next Generation' era." And, what's this? You'll use your Wiimote and Nunchuck to pilot the USS Enterprise for some real-time spaceship combat? It's not phaser control, but it just may be worth the extra $10 they're asking for the Wii version. Make it so this holiday at $30 for the Wii offering and just $20 for you PS2 owners.

At 50 dollars I'd pass, but at a budget price like that, I'll jump in.

Agreed. More games need to release at this price. I can deal with a game being crap if it costs < $30 new. And if it's good, even better.
Nothing worse than buying a game priced $50 because that's what everyone else is charging.

When will they stop it with the Star Trek space combat games?
Star Trek is not about combat! It never was! Give us an RPG or adventure game or something.

I am going to have to agree with you on this point. The violence level in star trek is much lower than in say star wars. Star Wars was about a war, star trek was about exploration. We need to get those old point and click adventure games back, like Judgement Rites.

Yep, and it's the same complete misunderstanding of the franchise that slowly but surely killed the Next Generation feature films. I have no idea why they kept trying in vain to make each subsequent film an action-sci-fi blockbuster, given that it fails miserably and is completely at odds with the successes of the series. If I wanted to see an action film with a struggle against a typical, evil sci-fi villain, I certainly wouldn't think of Star Trek.

Nearly all of the series had fights in, the movies did too (KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!). DS9 had whole seasons based around the dominion war.
There have been some pretty decent star trek games on pc like Armada and bridge commander, but the ones on consoles tend to suck. Though, as a trekkie, I'll buy it anyway lol.

It's true that they all had fights in them, but that wasn't the whole point of the show. I don't mind a couple of space combat games for Star Trek, but that's practically all they make.
It's like if all Star Wars games focused on landspeeders. Sure, they were in Star Wars and there's nothing wrong with a couple of landspeeder games, but if they made nothing but that, Star Wars fans would be complaining, because that's not exactly the point of Star Wars.

I agree, that wasn't the point of trek. And I do wish they would do other sorts of games. Maybe something like that wii diving game, so you could explore solar systems and only occasionally come up against a hostile.

They could at least fill them with proper strategy (teknobabble solutions), but they don't even manage that :(
Alas, it seems the only people who know how these games should be are the fans, and the copyright owners are way too protective.

Just as long as there's no "manual control" to pilot the Enterprise. Lamest scene EVAR.
And I agree w/those that say we need more of an RPGish adventure game for a Star Trek game. Sure, put some action in it, but be reasonable.

Christopher,
Copied from a different thread.
I am curious, was there no logic or reason in my 1st post? If you think that there was not, please let me know. I am not trying to be a smart ass, I would just like to know once and for all what boundries you have in mind when it comes to my comments on this blog.
I come here for information...and to have some fun.
I NEVER personally attack anyone, even though under my former names I was personally attacked on a regular basis for no other reason than my name.
I am not complaining about being attacked, I could care less, they are just words from an uninformed/ignorant person.
Do you not want me to inject some fun in my posts? My 1st post usually does include a valid arguement and facts. After I get responses I like to have a little fun with the many other regular posters on this site.
Please, email me personally so that we can discuss this so that I completely understand what it is I can and cannot do.
I will copy this post to serveral threads so that I know you will see it.
Thank you.

trek was never about battles, but battles were good. Voyager was the best, a fight at the end of each episode, TOS.... z Z z Z z Z.

Correct, Voyager was the best.
Posted: Aug 3rd 2007 12:59PM hvnlysoldr said
It was at least better than Enterprise. Next Generation hit the peak and then slowly went down as a few fans took over. DS9 became a war with the Dominion and the PahWraiths. Voyager was far away from home, had a female captain, and continuously fought the Borg and what have you. Enterprise was supposed to bridge and supply information and background to the other series and felt even more empty. So while Voyager wasn't best, it technically had the best effects and wasn't the worst of the series.
Star Wars for life. They only had 3 movies for the longest time but had more fans than the TV series.

You're right, Voyager was not the worst series, but it is not even close to The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine (or arguably the original series, though that was before my time and I find it hard to enjoy).
Deep Space Nine was probably the best overall, though the last season dragged on. The Next Generation is my personal favorite though, 'cause it had the best stories, even though many of them were poorly told/corny.
I loved the concept of Enterprise, but I hated the characters and actors.

I always get a lot of flak for it, but i have to place them in the order of best to worst as
1: The Next Generation (the best interpersonal relationships along with a good range of politics and battle)
2: Voyager (excellent characters, esp. Harry Kim, The Doctor, and Seven of Nine)
3: Deep Space Nine
4: Original (I have to be the only one who didn't like it)
5: Enterprise
But i too feel that a point-and-click style adventure would be the best way to go about this.

I don't know about point and click, and an RPG is hard to do well in this made-for-TV universe. I'd say the combat games are fine because most fans love the ships and fps's are so cheap to make.
What you guys want is Pirates! in Star Trek space. It's open ended enough for adventure, could capture casual fans and could still incorporate Kirk's galactic libido.
This should also be the next TV series (might as well capitalize on the pirates fever while you can).
I can tell I'm getting old when people don't care about Highlander, Star Trek and 2001.
