The Subspace Emissary crafts a story that ties the mascots together with shades of Kingdom Hearts, promising an emphasis on character development with "many famous characters persevering under the weight of their personal histories [and] shouldering their unique burdens." So expect to find Samus Aran coping with being born mute, while Solid Snake continues to ponder if love can bloom on a battlefield.
From what we can gather, it looks to not only feature a cinematic slant, but the closest we'll probably get to seeing Pit in a robust, single player experience. Be sure to check out the update itself for a whole slew of new screenshots.

Nintendo is tying together a bunch of well established characters that (mostly) don't have anything to do with one another in a narrative, fan fiction-esque setting in order to conquer the forces of evil.
This scenario sounds exactly like-
A) Spelunker
B) Kid Klown's Crazy Chase
C) Kingdom Hearts
Choose wisely.
(repeating in a mocking voice)
"this has nothing to do with kingdom hearts, WTF???"
blowing up over something so OBVIOUS...sheesh
Notice how this video also revealed that peach is back?
And why is meta knights ship droping those purple things? Tune in next week to find out folks!

(I hope Nintendo isn't running out of ideas)

stop being stupid
As Purple Rain accurately surmised, my reply should have been read as, "I would have preffered news about online multi-player."
I'm simply concerned. I consider the weekday updates a wonderful PR effort and a tool that could have been used by now to quell rumors about the game. In this case, despite the release date announcement, Brawl was not pushed as an online game during E3. I, like many of you, nervously await confirmation one way or the other.
I love Smash, but what makes it great is the multiplayer. A lack of online support in Metroid Prime 3 is a bad move, but I'll deal given I play them for the single player mode anyway. While I'm certainly going to play (and most likely love) Brawl, a lack of online support is an mistake several notches above Prime.
Fleshed out single player? Great!
More important than multi-player aspects? No.
I want to know, sooner rather than later.
So please don't give me that crap. thats about the same as saying "oh they anounced Ike, guess gannodorf isnt in there because they havent said anything" They obviously can't say yet if it will or wont have online. if they refused to say at E3 then i doubt any of the blog updates sould say either.
And for the last time Stop crying over Prime not having online. Prime 2 multi was shit, the game developers agreed it was. This game has always been about single player. Not every damne game that comes out has to have multiplayer online, get over it. So many people are quick to cry about a game not having online they don't take the time wondering if it should have it in the first place.
Then again, I could be disappointed again. Maybe I'll just lay low for now -- though I'm still hoping.
On another note, I'm surprised nobody's made fun of the name yet. I almost thought this had something to do with Super Mario Bros. 2 when I saw the name.

And it's MaSAhiro Sakurai. Close. :P
This is cool because in the last games there wasn't really a single player experience or compaign. Not saying they weren't great.

Smash brothers is an absolute A+ franchise, and Brawl is looking to be no exception.

I am admittedly a bit interested. But I'd be more interested, ironically, if they make it multiplayer (which it appears they will, based on the Big Damn Heroes pose at the end there). It looks like they're going to throw in a bit of old-school platforming action using the SSBB engine in the game. And I don't know about anyone else, but I always felt those games were better multiplayer.

Where did Raedien say he thought this was replacing online multi? Unless he's just an idiot I think he was saying he would rather they announced online multi.

Plus, when Iwata announced it he also said it would be a launch title. So, it's not the most sound promise..
The mode looks and sounds like a more robust Adventure Mode from Melee. Cool stuff, I thought Adventure Mode was a blast.

The single player Adventure mode in SSBM was OK, but a bit shallow. If this single player mode is as big as they say it is, I'll buy this game, online multi-player or not.
That said, if they added in online co-op for single player mode, that would potentially rock out loud!
...I wonder is Snake (or Sonic!) is in this?
As far as SSBB being online in general, I believe it was up on the screen under an Online Games header at Nintendo's E3 conference.

Anyone else notice that they quietly announced Peach returning? It's not that big a deal but it's still nice to see. Her costume looks awesome.

And multiplayer is by no means a given. The exact approximate quote was "We'd like to put it in there but we'll see if we can overcome the technical issues". Its promising, but it doesn't mean its there. Frankly, after the disappointment of no online for MP3, I'm not holding my breath.

I will be more than disappointed if it doesn't include wifi multiplayer.....
I don't think it's fair to compare Brawl to Metroid Prime. MP2 had terrible multiplayer, so it makes sense to not include an online multiplayer mode for it. Smash Bros., on the other hand, has always been about multiplayer and has always had great multiplayer, so it would make sense to take care of those technical difficulties and bring Brawl online. The Smash Bros. team seems to listen to the fans, so I'm thinking we'll get online in Brawl.
