Wii strap now with locking clip
Images are starting to surface that Nintendo has replaced the Wiimote strap again. Having reinforced the part of the Wii strap which caused mayhem back in the more innocent time of '06, Nintendo has apparently now fixed the part which wraps around our wrist by adding a locking clip. Now you can get that extra snug fit and lock it in.Although this redesign might make you think it's time to go back to flailing about with Wiimote in hand using all the force one can muster, we continue to urge restraint and caution. We'd love to confirm this new strap information, but Nintendo's PR team was not in the office today. Hopefully we'll get better images next week.

Sweet!
I love how innovative Nintendo is

I've seen this kind of mechanism before, but I can't remember where. I'm pretty sure Nintendo didn't come up with it originally.

Maybe I'd actually wear the strap if it was like this from the start. Playing Wii Sports with the non-locking strap is a pain.

WoW HvNLY.... to sue and get some or to not and get more....... The million dollar question.

Sweet, this will definitely make "WiiThrowourcontrollersdirectlyatourTVs" a more safe and positive experience.

Can us early adopters send off serial numbers for yet more "replacement" straps? I got four--that I've still never used--last time they had a strap redesign. These look nice too.
"Gotta catch 'em all!"

- Yeah, I hope they do that. But, I don't think Nintendo will justify the cost to replace millions of wrist straps again.
- I'm just going to make sure the next Wiimote I pick up has the latest wrist strap.

I've never called in any of my wrist straps, cause I've never had even the most remote issue, but this pretty much makes me want to. Please get word back soon on what needs to be done to get these.

I took the straps off my Wiimotes a few weeks after getting a Wii. The straps are only to cover Nintendo's ass. Anyone who truly thinks they are necessary must also be the same people who swallowed toy cars and stuck legos up their nose when they were little.

i've never dropped one of those remotes, but it's my roommate's console so i have to at least leave them on, even if i dont put them around my wrist
just hold the damn thing in your hand, it doesn't slip out

Nice looking! That whole pinch idea is on a few products, though, not exactly like that, but pretty close. Nice to see they are still visibly improving things so when I finally get around to buying my last two controllers, they'll have sweet straps.

the various Wii strap improvements are cool and all, but how about trying to improve the damaged pixels due to GPU overheating due to WiiConnect24 due to faulty system engineering? (check: http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/07/16/is-wiiconnect24-damaging-your-system/)

Does anyone actually even use the wrist strap? I know I don't. I got sick of the strap after having my Wii for one month. Currently there's no wrist strap on my remote.
darklink @ Aug 5th 2007 10:35PM
I still have the original strap! Maybe I can trade it for one of these.
Rob @ Aug 6th 2007 6:57AM
When Nintendo started to hand out replacement straps I thought nothing of it and stuck with my original ones. Theyve lasted me since the Wii UK release date and dont look at all faulty.
But if Nintendo offer these out for free I'll sure be calling up for a few.
