Halo 3 pre-order at 7-Eleven

One of our own writers here at Joystiq remembers seeing PS2s for sale at his local 7-Eleven when they first came out. We're still trying to find out if this a national thing, but if you see this sign at your local 7-Eleven leave a comment below. Despite how convenient it would be to pick up Halo 3 from our local convenience super-chain, there's still that nagging awkward feeling of pre-ordering your video games from the same place you pick up emergency condoms and munchie satiating chips at 3AM.
Update: It does appear to be a national 7-Eleven promotion. Replaced old pic found after the break with very official looking pic from Sunnyvale, CA. The reservation price seems to be in question, some people don't have to put any money down for a reserve and others are being charged. Most tragically, the game will apparently not be coming with a free Slurpee.

That would totally make me buy a slurpee.
The1 @ Aug 5th 2007 4:05PM
Well, since most 7-11's are 24 HR, you will be able to get Halo 3 at Midnight.
Bajooby @ Sep 19th 2007 10:50AM
I reserved at my local 7-Eleven a yesterday, and he didn't charge me anything. The manager made me give him my phone number, and I'm afraid of when he calls because I can barely understand him.
Lucky @ Aug 4th 2007 1:04PM
There aren't any 7-11's any wear nar me as far as I know. Probly has something to do with liveing in canada.
X____x
JeffM @ Aug 4th 2007 1:41PM
Not true, many a 7-11 in Canadaland.
Ialwayschangemyname @ Aug 4th 2007 3:05PM
You are soooo wrong. The slurpee capital of the world is in Canada, Winnipeg for those who aren't in the know. There are more slupees sold per capita there then anywhere else in the world. Calgary has apparently come in close second a few times. Theres like a 7-11 everywhere in Winnipeg.
GamerCrusader @ Aug 4th 2007 1:08PM
As a worker at 7-11 here in canada I must say this: OUR HOTDOGS ARENT OLD! They are merely taken from old animals!

BeAsT 151 @ Aug 4th 2007 1:13PM

Red @ Aug 4th 2007 1:14PM
Here in Michigan, not only are they selling but they also have some very nice signs that look like they were corporately designed. They have the HALO 3 logo on it and also the 7-11 logo on the bottom. very cool.
Stevo @ Aug 4th 2007 1:19PM
The latest testament to how big Halo really is.
Chris @ Aug 4th 2007 1:22PM
Yeah I actually saw an identical sign, totally DIY, up in a 7 Eleven in the Chicago burbs last weekend.. It's especially funny because of the unusual cheapness of the sign, but yes it is happening in more than one place.
Jim @ Aug 4th 2007 1:29PM
They also have a preorder offer up at a White Hen in Chicagoland. They will be opening at 12.01am on Sept. 25th.
ExMcloud @ Aug 4th 2007 1:41PM

gk128 @ Aug 4th 2007 1:41PM
Here in Providence, RI it's the same thing. I actually saw this last week. I should have took a picture of it then. :(
Snatcher @ Aug 4th 2007 1:45PM
One giant slushie and one copy of Halo 3. Thank You come again! Dang Halo has hit the bigtime. Now if we could only get our systems serviced at the local auto repair shop under the Microsoft Warranty. LOLZ. I love my 360 regardless.
antV @ Aug 4th 2007 1:48PM
This is actually nothing new as far as 7-11 is concerned, I remember my friends back in college just walked into one and grabbed halo 2 on its release day, when everyone else was fighting tooth-and-nail only to be turned down by their local game store or best buy.
phattie @ Aug 4th 2007 1:48PM
They are going to launch with millions of copies of Halo3.. why are people pre-ordering?
Stevo @ Aug 4th 2007 2:30PM
Actually, with a lot of retailers you can get a good deal if you pre-order it. You can buy a $20 marketplace points card for only $5 if you pre-order Halo 3 at Best Buy.
War1ock @ Aug 4th 2007 1:48PM
yep its at the one down my street too
Louis S. @ Aug 4th 2007 1:51PM
Everyone hope on to the hype-train, It's gonna be one long, ass ride.
Don't mind too much, I like Halo.
Louis S. @ Aug 4th 2007 1:52PM
Fuck... did I really spell 'hop' wrong...
Wil @ Aug 4th 2007 1:53PM
I saw one of those at a 7-11 in Murietta, CA when I stopped to get gas.
Thierry @ Aug 4th 2007 1:56PM
Best Buy should have plenty of copies, why bother preorder.
Marasai @ Aug 4th 2007 2:08PM
Some places will not sell you a copy unless you have a preorder.
Found that out with RE4wii. toiok me a week to get it. with big games alot of places like to fake shortages and essentially force peopel to put money down early.
reductant @ Aug 4th 2007 2:06PM
What's interesting about 7-11 is that it is a Japanese company. The Japanese division of the original 7-11 American company outgrew the American division and purchased it. Also, the Japanese division has been profiled as an exemplar of Japanese innovation, spearheading such ideas as including dry-cleaning, ticket sales, etc. in the various 7-11 mini-markets in Japan (7-11s aren't gas stations in Japan). I bet such tendencies at branching into other markets for people's convenience is becoming part of the American 7-11s.
Snatcher @ Aug 4th 2007 2:10PM
Excellent insight. Thanks.
william @ Aug 4th 2007 2:20PM
the 7-Eleven down in sycamore illinois had the halo stuff when i was driving to work i thought i would check and they did have it.
Linkdead @ Aug 4th 2007 2:21PM
The only place Halo 3 will sell out will be gamestops. They only order enough to cover pre-orders and a few extra copies.
Have some sense and pick it up at a bestbuy, circuit city, walmart, or target.
Jonathan @ Aug 4th 2007 2:31PM
A few 7/11s in NY have this as well.
Neebs @ Aug 4th 2007 3:04PM
I'll have to look for it..
Jim. @ Aug 4th 2007 4:04PM
7-11 sold Halo 2 as well. Anyone remember the slurpee cups?
Blackmanfu @ Aug 4th 2007 4:48PM
Same here in Pittsburgh! And it's just a couple of blocks away from the GameSlop where my roommates and I waited for three straight hours in 20 degree weather during the Halo 2 midnight launch, only to be turned down at the door because the security guard didn't like my "GTA made me do it" T-shirt. Another two hours and a helluva lot of arguing later, we finally got our copy.
Maybe 7-11 will be different. And in their defense, 7-11's Hot-dogs are a procrastinating college student's best friend during all-nighters. That and pron.
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 4th 2007 5:05PM
I would have pointed out the Simpsons promotional Slushee but then realized it probably won't make it to September.
JBundy @ Aug 4th 2007 6:21PM
*sigh*
There's one 7-11 in Texas. It's 9 1/2 hours away from me.
Truepatriot @ Aug 4th 2007 6:41PM
the 7-11 up my street has them for pre order in chicago
Reesimo @ Aug 4th 2007 7:00PM
I manage a Sevs in Virginia and we've had the POP for about a week. We've been told that there's a $20 deposit for reservations and a retail price hasn't been announced yet. I say this because our stores always sell at a higher price. I've still got Halo for the Xbox in my store for a 'reasonable' $34.99. I don't see this going to well...
Neebs @ Aug 4th 2007 7:54PM
Actually, I saw a few PS2 and Xbox games in my local convenience mart/drug store/pharmacy thing.
Alex Aossey @ Aug 4th 2007 8:14PM
Just bought a Slurpee today and saw the same thing in Toledo, Ohio. Looking to be a national thing.
Phil @ Aug 4th 2007 8:40PM
I saw this at my 7-11 in Naperville, IL a of couple weeks ago. I mentioned to the guy who works there it was odd they would be selling Halo 3. He said within hours of putting the sign up they already had 2 pre-orders. He also said, yes, it is a nationwide thing and not just something odd that particular store is doing.
robrob @ Aug 4th 2007 11:29PM
The 7/11 in Wicker Park (Milwaukee ave in Chicago) is doing this as well. I LOL'ed at it, then realized they are open at midnight. I'll probably buy mine there now.
robrob @ Aug 4th 2007 11:30PM
(I wonder why the signage is so janky and homemade if this is a widespread thing?)
Richard DeV @ Aug 5th 2007 12:05AM
Here in the suburbs of Detriot we have this going on at our 7-elevens as shown. these stores are much closer than the 3 gamestop/eb's in the mall(lol) so it would be convienent. But will they sell it at midnight? if so im in
Disraeli @ Aug 5th 2007 12:12AM
I'm assuming that this is a 7-11 franchise thing. I worked at a corporate 7-11 for a while, and we didn't have much, if any, choice on carrying different stuff like this. Franchises, however, can carry just about whatever they want to. I could be wrong, but if you see these preorders somewhere, just look at windows to see if they have the franchise sticker somewhere.
Jumbo120788 @ Aug 5th 2007 2:47AM
It is nation wide I work at a 7-11 and we did the same thing for Halo 2
