Weekly Webcomic Wrapup goes Beyond the Sword
Here at Joystiq, we pride ourselves on being like that father who always made his kids compete for his affection. Except these aren't our kids, so it's even crueler. Firaxis joined forces with a handful of webcomics to create strips based on Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword. So it's with an evil but loving grin that we throw all the participating webcomics we could find (if we missed one, let us know and we'll throw our hands in the air say "oops!") and have our beloved readers vote on who did the best job with the source material.

It's really weird to see Brian Clevinger (8-Bit Theatre) actually drawing. I like his style though.
Neebs @ Aug 4th 2007 3:08PM
I don't think Brian actually drew those, actually.
Anyways, if you've never played Civ, the Dueling Analogs one used to happen in actual gameplay, A LOT.

By the way, look the previous 8BT comic, before the Pointed Sticks. That one is better.

I know we're not in the running this week, but don't forget to check us out!

That's the funniest comic this week, Tim.
Reminds me of when I'm playing more brain training:
"Paper. Rock. Scissors...
scIs-sORs...
Seezoors...
seesawz...
F*cking god damned piece o... no, SCISSORS!! SEE, SI, cee..."
*cries*
good times.

I'm almost ashamed to say I voted.
But on the up, I think I want to buy this game.

Those comics are awesome, we need more comics based on a specific video game every week.
Matt B @ Aug 4th 2007 4:26PM
I love the game. They have added a ton of stuff to it. It is worth the money and you can get it on steam.
Zapp @ Aug 8th 2007 9:44PM
I remember a time when these comics were meant to satirize the gaming industry, and not just another means for the industry to market a product. Those were the days.

You missed the best one!

Worst week for gaming related webcomics EVER
MosquitoControl @ Aug 4th 2007 9:09PM
Great marketing. It's obvious the guys doing these love the game, so it works in everyone's favor. It isn't as if they're doing it for a game they've never played or had no interest in.
It's Civ. Civ is godly. It's on the top of more best-of-all-time lists than any other game. Deservedly.
Cabcru @ Aug 5th 2007 12:19AM
So, GU Comics still not funny then...
Shaymus22 @ Aug 5th 2007 10:41AM
Why is it that PvP and CAD's Civ4 comics both show Lincoln offering Ceasar food?
Also, why does CAD's ceasar look nothing like Ceasar?
getsuookami @ Aug 6th 2007 1:19PM
BUTT JOKES are winning this week?! Come on guys...
zeroword @ Aug 5th 2007 11:49AM
CAD was not funny at all and yet its winning...
"Buttsylvania"? Is joystiq readership really dominated by 4th graders?
Rich @ Aug 5th 2007 3:13PM
Apparently, one of the guidelines these strips had to go by was "Do not include any jokes". Seriously, there's no humor to be found here other than "duh hey these guys r from different time periods and they're talking to each other LOLOLOLOLOL"

The three comics linked should not be considered a three parter. The kickoff comic is not part of the Tokugawa series. The 3rd page of the series (which is not supposed to be funny) goes live on the 9th.
Cabcru, I neither asked to be linked here, nor asked you to read anything I produce. The way I see it, it should be exceedingly easy for you to just not click links leading to my site. Self-control mate. Self-control.
