World of Warcraft players + BlizzCon = costumes
[UPDATE - now with video, after the break]
BlizzCon brings out the strangest, coolest, and most insanely detailed costumes this side of Outland, and we were front and center at last night's costume contest, hosted by comedian Jay Mohr. He appeared to have taken notes from Jamie Kennedy's appearance at E3, and was actually funny instead of stupid.
Check out the gallery down below for the highlights, and be sure to take a look at the winning Warlock costume. The girl who designed it was patient enough to pose for a billion photos afterwards with her heavy (and lighted!) helmet, and as far as we know she wore it all night. We even saw her waiting in line for the bus with those wings still on. Most entries were from WoW, but there were a couple of nods to other Blizzard games, including a Terran Ghost from Starcraft.

You know, I might have to give WoW a second chance...
whosmav @ Aug 4th 2007 4:34PM
Jay Mohr, hmm, he hasn't been funny in a long time.
Mafia was pretty good.
I don't think I'll ever get the cosplay stuff. But I didn't know theres that many hot girls that are down with it. I bet they get fah-reekay!
jettoki @ Aug 4th 2007 5:25PM
Jay Mohr hosted DICE 2007, too. Told a lot of racists jokes about Japanese people. Not sure why the game industry likes him.

because he's maybe a gamer? this is just a theory, and that might just be charity and not actual interest, but i do think that he bought it because he uses it.
Tom @ Aug 4th 2007 4:45PM
Speaking from personal experience of Wow fans after working in an indie games shop, the hot ones are the ones who have been paid by Blizzard to be there. This is their job. To be paid for being nice to geeks. It's a tough job but someone has to do it. And yeah I know I'm a geek for posting on a wow page so don't bother with that hypocrasy stuff
whosmav @ Aug 4th 2007 4:51PM
Well it makes sense I guess. That would be a tough job.
Don't sweat the hate though. They're all geeks too.
They hate on me for putting up my website.
Geeks hating geeks. Nice huh?

I'm I the only white guy who thinks blonde chicks are ugly? Most of them are pale and look sick. Maybe their hair causes them to look like that.
TK00 @ Aug 4th 2007 4:51PM
Yes, you're the only one in the entire world.
n_revolution9 @ Aug 4th 2007 4:52PM
The one on the right's got a messed up nose and whacked out eyes. The one on the left looks like those ears are for real.
General Leo @ Aug 4th 2007 4:55PM
No, your not the only one. But there's a difference between me and you. I'm African-American or Black.
But yes, blonde girls are ugly.
Tom @ Aug 4th 2007 5:00PM
It's funny really, in the 19th century that kind of sickly look was seen as incredibly beautiful. It was believed (and became a major theme in Gothic literature of the time) that girls that looked like they were dying was hot. Hence the whole white face, red lips, dark eyes thing, we're all necrophiliacs really.
License to ill @ Aug 4th 2007 5:06PM
Thats ok blonde girls probably think you're ugly...
Patrick @ Aug 4th 2007 5:20PM
i dunno the one to the right has got like a tiny head but still i would tap
James @ Aug 4th 2007 6:43PM
As a blond haired, blue eyed guy - I realised I don't like blondes. I've met and dated enough to know they're not "airheads" and that stereotypes don't apply. I don't even know why.
Brunette alleles are going to dominate my own big Bowser style.
Szu @ Aug 4th 2007 8:04PM
I'm sorry, I just realized they're blonde because you pointed it out. I never really made past the chest. Oh snap, they've got pointy ears.
billychaos @ Aug 4th 2007 4:53PM
Unless someone can kindly correct me, can someone tell that random guy in the cowboy hat that the rifle convention is a few blocks down.
Who is he suppposed to be?
Paul @ Aug 4th 2007 6:02PM
He is supposed to be Chuck Norris, patron saint of Barrens chat.
Dan @ Aug 4th 2007 5:06PM
This makes me ashamed to play the game
Anticrawl @ Aug 4th 2007 5:09PM
Is it just me or does that girl on the right have a freally tiny head? It's downright disturbing really. Not only that she has a serious underbite problem haha.. wow well yeah I'm the kinda guy that likes a little meat on the bones.
Hirsbrunner @ Aug 4th 2007 5:32PM
Those two drag queens are HOT!
^__^
samfish @ Aug 4th 2007 5:39PM
I'd do the one on the right.
T! @ Aug 4th 2007 5:54PM

ThornedVenom @ Aug 5th 2007 4:12AM

And I don't think geeks on this webpage take gold farmers lightly.
colin @ Aug 5th 2007 5:10AM

SAKY @ Aug 5th 2007 3:43PM
You know what is wrong witht his picture?
THESE CHICKS AIN'T HAPPY!
They don't wanna be dressed up like nerds, they don't wanna be around thousands of nerds and they don't want to have their picture taken looking like nerds.
blooh @ Aug 5th 2007 11:33AM
girls on the internet are fucking nuts
Kato @ Aug 5th 2007 6:38PM
Leftie's hot, rightie's prolly a man.
dontlikeitmodit @ Aug 5th 2007 9:32PM
I've met a lot of beautiful mmo women gamers. However, they seem to have poor housekeeping skills and cant cook worth a shit.
Friend of mine dated one and she was a fuggin slob. Totally turned me off to them. Hey you know what they say? Some where some guy is sick of their shit.
Also, women seem to be much more addicted when they are hardcore then most men. Male friends are much easier to peel away for a night of drinking then the fems are.
Maybe its because we are always looking for the next best thing, where as women are trying to make this one the best one.
Who knows? Men are from Phobos, women are from New Jersey.
dontlikeitmodit @ Aug 5th 2007 9:38PM
Sorry!!, but its me again. I gotta LOL @ 'License to ill' further up.
Nothing is more funny then a white nerd pumping out 'Beastie Boys' talking about how girls don't like other guys.
'Beastie Boys', god bless em, are the poster children for what girls don't typically like. And please don't come back about wealth or fame. I'm talking about appearance.
Adam @ Aug 6th 2007 12:22AM
Actually pretty sure the two belf girls pictured were Blizzard hires - they were throwing out free t-shirts during the Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain concert Saturday night.
There were some pretty impressive costumes (and some not too impressive ones, too). And like him or not, I was impressed by Jay Mohr, too - they asked him to MC the contests (apparently with little to know prep or rehearsal) and he rolled with it like a pro (and was dang funny too - even after the 5 million requests for "DO WALKEN!!!")
Cheezedog @ Aug 6th 2007 12:22AM
WOw.. alot of the costumes are getting preatty ornate.. That female warlock one must of taken a few days just for the helmat.
But then you see something like picture Sany0074 in the gallery... and barf on you keyboard.
gus @ Aug 6th 2007 2:45PM
Peter: What would you do if you had a million dollars?
Lawrence: I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.
essance @ Aug 10th 2007 4:07PM
aww my costume wasnt on there :( i was number 18. /cry
