Ouch....you guys really tore Joystiq a new one...lol.

Anyways I'm going to download it soon and hopefully it will be fun. I loved Bomberman back in the day. Insane fun.

I agree though this review is pretty damn horrible.

But lol you guys really burned the "reviewer"....

I haven't played Bomberman Live, but the comment: "We stumbled through a ridiculous process of logging players in, logging controllers in, inviting the other console to play a game, then defining game settings" is something I can relate to.

The way the Xbox 360 requires players to log in with their own profiles, just to play a local multiplayer game, is too complicated. Call me daft - it took a good ten minutes to set up Gears of War. When I got DDR Universe and had the dance pad hooked into the USB ports, I would routinely be assigned as player 2 in most games (such as the TMNT arcade game), even though I was the only one playing. The only way I could fix this was to simply unplug the dance mat.

I guess what I'm getting at is I question how many of those setup problems you mention are the product of Hudson or Microsoft.

I could not disagree more. This is a great party game and I've had parties to prove it.

Post an update and save some face Joystiq... make it clear that so far everyone has disagreed with you and that the review is just YOUR opinion, god forbid some noob believes this and doesn't buy the game.

Ok, just to be clear (and defend Joystiq here just a tad), a review is ALWAYS an opinion. How can it ever not be? You're always going to have a person (or people) basically writing what they think about a game, ie, an opinion.

With that said, this is just a sad review that only looks at the game through a single experience of trying to set it up for a multi-360 party. So, yes, it is in fact a review, it's just a really crappy one.

Wow this review was really weird to read. It so different to my view and others I've talked to.

I don't see how you could have so much problem with the game, I barely use Live and it was pretty straight forward in my oponion. Played it for hours and hours with friends, you never get bored of it. I'm even considering buying 2 extra controllers just for Bomberman Live.

"To test this group-based game, I gathered six friends, two 360s, snacks, and plenty of beer."

Your editor let that last bit fly?

I appreciate the honesty but a second, alcohol-free, play session should have been warranted.

I'm pretty sure I'd get fired if I pulled something like this...

I had mt nephews over last weekend. The ages are 5,11,12,16. My son is 11 and we have family that live accross town that have a 360. We have two 360's on the home network and had no problem playing in different rooms. We had a blast with 8 player online play. Why the reviewer had such a bad experence probably had something to do with their moods. Bomberman Live is easy to pick up and easy to play in a party setting. They should give it another try.

OK we all can agree, Zack Stern made a pretty crappy mistake by saying this was a review. Zack, this is not Live Journal we don't wanna hear about how you and your friends got wasted playing a game. We wanna hear how the game was. Maybe next time you actually play the game all the way through (sober!)and then we might actually respect your opinion. I can just see the next Joystiq review for Mario Strikers. " So, I brought a bunch of friends over and a bag of hash and then we started to play Mario Strikers. After like 15 mins, we were laughing out a$$ off! We give this game a 15 out of 5 stars cause it was soo funny!" URG!!!

I've played bomberman on the old Amiga and loved it. I downloaded the XBLA version and played it with a couple of mates the other night and we had a great time and ended up playing for hours. They were pretty new to the game but I found with some new powerups included that weren't in the Amiga version I played that soon after it was a pretty even match.

This is your review of this game? Your one experience trying to play this with a party between 2 360's rather than what 95% of people will probably do with this game? (That is, Play online on Live and, depending on your situation, some local play on a SINGLE 360 games).

I'm sorry the game disappointed you in that particular situation, but it's probably worth mentioning that what you tried to setup probably represents less than 5% of the people who buy this game. Not that it shouldn't have worked better for what you WERE trying to do, but I guess it's not all that surprising that it didn't work quite as well as you were expecting, considering Hudson probably focused on the other 95% of the market who would be playing it either on a single console or online.

I'll admit that the game isn't perfect... actually, I would've liked to see some form of single player to be honest, rather than just the standard multiplayer games vs. bots, but the online play is a lot of fun so has basically made up the cost.

Bomberman Land Touch! for the DS is an excellent game, with 8 players on one cartridge, it is an absolute blast! Zing! Seriously I love Bomberman, and the DS version is aweomse. Way more worth it than the Xbox Live version.

Sadly all they really needed to do was port Super Bomberman and add in Live multiplayer and they would have had a real hit. I got Super Bomberman back in the day just for the multitap it came with (3 player Secret of Mana is still one of the most awesome gaming experiences I have ever had) but we were more than pleasantly surprised with Super Bomberman and it became one of our main party games for years to come.

They really screwed up the kick and time-bomb items in this game. There's a delay to use either.. making the kick not quite the life-saver it usually is and making the time-bomb fairly useless in precision killing. I have the feeling that whoever made this version of Bomberman simply looked at screenshots of previous versions and never actually played much of them.

Your comments about the interface (pressing A, having to quit out between matches) are valid. I'm hoping that they'll address this when they do the first DLC that they're talking about. That's the only good thing I have to say about this review.

It seems that you just don't want to like Bomberman. I mean, seriously, it took you like two or three weeks to write this review, and the entire review consists of one night with friends and beer.

Why would you even need split screen? All you would have is two TVs showing the exact same thing. Not like Halo 2 where you need it in order that everyone can have a decent-sized section of the screen. It would be about as useful as me system linking a single player just so each eye could have its own image.

As for teams, I could see why you'd want them, but I don't think that Bomberman's gameplay really supports teams. Yes, I know that previous version had it, but I'm just saying that Bomberman is such a free-for-all kinda game at its core that teams are stilted and artificial.

Finally, a game named Bomberman LIVE and no Live coverage? WTF?

I give this review the worst grade possible, an A--!
