Cory always comes off as a little too cocky, but his stuff (fiction, blogging, and ideas) are good stuff.

Totally not an asshole thing here -- but you mean acronym (CIA, NFL, WoW), not anagram (Hester Mofet / the rest of me, Doctor Who / Torchwood)

Yeah, this Cory guy is brilliant, even in this short article you can get a glimpse of his anthropological/futuristical vision/interpretation. I discovered him by accident when I found a book of his short stories. Can't wait to read more.

Harsh! But while he definitely has an anti-corporate bias (not that I'd complain about that) it's clear that he was truly disappointed and wasn't expecting to be let down.

Really, I think the way for MMOs to go is to let the players drive the story lines. Instead of having the players conform to the story of the day, their actions should shape the world for better or worse. If you let players run amok and destroy their server forever it might make them better, more responsible players next time. It might also make them feel more powerful and important.
