Oops, HMV admits error in MGS4 Xbox listing
HMV admits that a pre-order listing for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on Xbox 360 found on the site over the weekend was an administration error. The listing caused quite a stir over the weekend as the MGS4 rumor that the game will make its way to Xbox 360 just won't die, recently spurred on further by Konami executive statements. What lent the listing a strange twinge of respectability was that the date set for the Xbox 360 version was five months after the expected spring release of the PS3 version, giving Sony that extra time to still use that word "exclusive" which keeps being attached to the game.
HMV says that the error occurred because someone got overexcited and that the company originally wanted to simply "ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform." They say they didn't intend to start taking pre-orders. HMV says, "We're sorry to have caused such a stir." So watch out for those HMV listings, when they get excited, games magically appear.

*sigh*
*another rumor on MGS4 on the 360 incoming in 3..2...*
phattie @ Aug 6th 2007 10:34AM
MGS4 is going to fill the entire capacity of a BD... which is at least 6 DVD9s. At least you would be getting a workout.
Anonim @ Aug 6th 2007 10:41AM
Yes yes like those all other PS3 games - filled to the brim with duped files, doubled files, etc. to speed up loading, make games harder to pirate....

*Resistance - 6GB of data, 2GB of sound, 7 GB of movies, 2.5GB of garbage
Without movies could easily fit on 1 DVD
*Some games place the same files many times on disc to offset very slow access times of Bluray drive.
For example Oblivion will double everything. [ http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/01/ps3_oblivion_seeing_double_to.php ]
Also existance on dumy [empty] files were confirmed on some discs.
Stupidiot @ Aug 6th 2007 10:43AM
The Blu-ray disc drive in the PS3 is single layer only isn't it? That makes it 25GB.
Sorry if I'm wrong about this.
marcandrer @ Aug 6th 2007 10:50AM
the PS3 Blu-Ray drive can support double-layer BDR which is 50gb.
morganfell @ Aug 6th 2007 10:51AM
PS3 will play Dual Layer Blueray - 50GB
cc123 @ Aug 6th 2007 11:37AM
Anonim you are fucking pathetic. You have no interest in a PS3 yet you spend time digging thru PS3 sites to find any tiny bit of information that will allow you to put it down and you can't even do that right.
At the same link you gave F1 is listed at 11.5 Gigs and you changed it to 7.57. You also conveniently forgot to mention Ninja Gaiden Sigma at 11.5 Gigs. So what it exactly were you trying to prove? It seems that the majority of PS3 exclusives go over 8 Gigs while the multi platform games stay below that since it's DVD9 capacity on the 360.
Well done.
Luther @ Aug 6th 2007 12:04PM
Keep in mind that the 360 can only use 7GB of a dual-layer DVD after formatting (instead of an expected 8.5GB). I am not sure of the reasons for this, but it could be to ease loading data on the edge of the disc, as well as make it easier for the layer break (when the DVD must make it's way back from the edge to the center to read second layer).
You can confirm this size limitation by either looking it up on Wikipedia or by loading any Xbox 360 game on your computer to see the size.
Word of the street. @ Aug 6th 2007 12:07PM
I wonder why all the hate towards multi-disc.2 disc havent kill nobody and you get more plastic for your money.I wonder what PS3 owners would say if MGS4 was in 2 Blu-Ray Discs....
Also I believe part of MGS4 will be installed directly into your hard drive.
SirusRedblock @ Aug 6th 2007 1:09PM
Don't worry Anonmin.. The Sony fantards get all worked up with you actually show them the truth about game sizes.. It's one of the few things they can throw in Xbox user's faces, so just let them go on and on about how DVD9 is so "last-gen" while they continue to suck the Sony tit.
On Topic: I am tired of these 360 rumors and I could care less about MGS on the 360. I find it more funny to watch the PS3tards whine like little spoiled children who don't want to share their toys because MGS IS MINE MINE MINE!! Pityful.. I'm sure most of them are little kids still living with mommy and daddy and if their older then they need to seek some mental help.
Evan @ Aug 6th 2007 3:26PM
Games are NOT currently limited by disk space, they are limited by budget! Games with $20 million budgets are only producing 5GB to 8GB of real data. Think about how much money would have to be spent to create enough 3D models, textures, and sound effects to fill BD's 50GB! Even MGS4 doesn't have that kind of budget.
Anonim @ Aug 6th 2007 4:13PM
@cc123
MORON....
I hope you like bloated, full of dumy files (Dreamcast) , slopy 'exclusives'...
BTW:
18.02.07 Formula_One_Championship_Edition_JPN_PS3-NextLevel (7.9 GB)
05.03.07 Formula_One_Championship_Edition_USA_PS3-PARADOX (8.77 GB)

By "error" I assume they mean PR stunt.
morganfell @ Aug 6th 2007 10:44AM
Exactly. These guys increased their hits to astronomic levels. Then they offer the lamest excuse in the world. Who in their right mind would give credit card info to people that intentionally deceived the public for their own profit?
The SAME SITE offer Haze and UT3 pre-orders for PC and 360 THIS YEAR. We know these are timed PS3 exclusives this year. These guys will do anything to make a buck.
morganfell @ Aug 6th 2007 10:48AM
Exactly. They increased their site hits to astronomic levels. They knew exactly what they were doing. Why would anyone give credit card info to a company that would intentionally deceive the public to make a buck?
The same site offers preorders for this year for HAZE and UT3 on the PC and 360. Two games that have been officially stated as PS3 exclusives this year. What a bunch of liars.
Dud @ Aug 6th 2007 10:44AM
Haha, yeah.. "Error". More like "Whoops, we weren't supposed to let anyone know about that yet.".
People thinking this will stay exclusive are only kidding themselves. Money was being tossed around to keep it silent for as long as possible. Items don't just magically appear in a system without a valid SKU..
AKM @ Aug 6th 2007 11:00AM
If you think Xbox still be around 2008…you kidding yourself. Common :-) Even your “Capitan” jump off the sinking ship already.
cc123 @ Aug 6th 2007 11:15AM

I preordered my copy of Alan Wake for PS3 already too! It's coming in March:

Am I reading that correctly, are you saying that in less than 6 months the 360 will no longer be around?

Metal Gear Solid for PS3:

- Level 25 no disc change
- level 40 no disc change,and going,going and going....
Metal Gear Solid for Xbox360:
- Level 15 ends here...

- Level 25 end here...
- please wait...insert disc 3 to keep playing
- Level 40 end here:thanks for playing MGS4...
- insert disc 1 that way you can play online...
- Oh no i forgot, its disc 2...please wait...
- insert disc 2 that way you can play online...
- Please wait...updating drivers to play online....
WedgeTalon @ Aug 6th 2007 11:02AM
Yeah, because having to change discs on the PlayStation 1 and 2 really was so awful NO ONE bought those systems.
marcandrer @ Aug 6th 2007 11:09AM
I don't recall ever changing disc on the PS2 cause it had a DVD Drive that, like the BluRay drive, everyone thought it was so NOT necessary. Apparently the DVD drive in the PS2 prooved quite useful afterall in that generation.
The1 @ Aug 6th 2007 11:16AM
So... I do not care about changing disk? That is not an issue for me and others. If this goes to the X360 I will buy it. If it's exclusive for the PS3, then I will buy it for my PS3. I love the X360 controls.
WedgeTalon @ Aug 6th 2007 2:47PM
@marcandrer:
Off the top of my head, Xenosaga 2 and 3 each had two discs, as well as Star Ocean:EOT.

Nothing to see here. Stealth just doesn't appeal to me. I can be really patient otherwise how could I grind through RPGs, but I can't sit still long enough for stealth. In grinding I can move around and keep hitting buttons or changing it up. In stealth I got to keep still, be aware of all sorts of percentages to keep myself unnoticed and then when it switches to fighting action the camera I had issues following me does an even worse job in action.
marcandrer @ Aug 6th 2007 10:53AM
you know who else are kidding themselves ?.. people who still believe it will come to the 360.
AlanS17 @ Aug 6th 2007 10:55AM
@Anonim
Some games require more than 1 DVD of capacity, and some don't. But you think file duplication doesn't occur when a game is required to span multiple DVD's?
We just started this newest generation. It would be naive to assume that games won't get bigger and more complicated as time goes on. It's the natural progression of things. DVD-based consoles have already hit their size limit.
Sure, you can make a game fit onto a DVD. But that doesn't mean you can do it without sacrifice. You said it yourself, Resistance would fit onto one disc if they took out the movies. But why would they do that? The complete game takes up plenty more space than will fit one one DVD.
I promise you that DVD-based consoles would duplicate files to speed it up if they could only afford the space.
Sircolby45 @ Aug 6th 2007 11:00AM
Lol. Looks like Sony or Konami doing damage control.
DaveC @ Aug 6th 2007 11:01AM
I would like to see MGS4 on the 360 as much as the next guy, but come on. They had Kojima-san stand on stage and say it's an exclusive. Doesn't get more official than that.
megaStryke @ Aug 6th 2007 12:45PM
Shinji Mikami said he would cut off his own head if Resident Evil 4 didn't remain a GameCube exclusive. We felt assured by that statement. The rest, as they say, is history.
Freeze @ Aug 6th 2007 11:04AM
@ Anonim,
Is there one for Xbox360 game capacity?
Anonim @ Aug 6th 2007 11:33AM
No.
You *could* guess looking at iso sizes but all 'stealth' iso dumps for X360 takes whole DVD-9 no matter if what game takes - even for 1MB game! as at the end of DL-DVD (9GB) are placed security sectors.
And packed iso's are only aproximation....
Dud @ Aug 6th 2007 11:05AM
We've seen plenty of developers stand on stage saying games were exclusive before, only to see them ported months later. This is nothing new.
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Aug 6th 2007 11:19AM
Yeah maybe it was an error **cough (yeah right) cough** but we all know in the end it is coming to the 360. Just another reason to jump to the Holy Land of gaming goodness that is the Xbox 360 =)
Why do all these POS3 Fanboys love to bring up the "Oh BD has way more storage space than dvd9" and blah blah blah. Who cares back in the day games like RE came with more than 1 disc. Final Fantasy 7 had 3!! Did that make the game bad? Of course not maybe just for the lazy fat @$$es out there but no it didnt make a diff. We have yet to see if this will ever be an issue in this Gen so take all that BD garbage outta here. Sony just owned you.

Also, the company that made R:FOM is using up more disk space for R&C:TOD...and the disk space will continnue to go up unless it needs to be watered down for the 360.

Why am I not surprised you sony trolls bring up RRoD in the first page of this thread.
The 360 is a great console for gaming. And RRoD is NOT that serious.
ForceUnleashed @ Aug 6th 2007 11:33AM
As for MGS4 I highly doubt this is an "error". More like it was leaked and now they're trying to cover up their tracks.
sony must be really desperate to keep this under wraps.

cc123 @ Aug 6th 2007 12:54PM
There is no spoon.
Jake @ Aug 6th 2007 2:21PM
You have to be an idiot to think that the Bush administration "masterminded" the WTC attack. You have to be an idiot that wants very badly to hate his government and call it evil. You are very misinformed, to say the least.
ForceUnleashed @ Aug 6th 2007 3:20PM
@ Jake
So I'm an idiot because I'm not swallowing everything the government force feeds us on the news?
Sorry but I'm not dumb or stupid for seeing the President for the scumbag he truly is.
And I don't desperately want to hate the govt. I liked Clinton and I like this country. However the current administration is so corrupt that its shocking. So yes I do consider it a very real POSSIBILITY that Bush masterminded that horrible day.
Grindstone @ Aug 6th 2007 5:12PM
ForceUnleashed,
Lets be logical here; you are suggesting that 8 months after Bush took office (in January 2001, when he was sworn in), that he spent that time plotting an attack against the country that had just voted him into office? Not only that, but that probably hundreds of people who helped organize such an event are keeping this huge conspiracy secret? I think Clinton would have been in a better position to do such a thing.
As for the thread topic, I could care less about MSG, how big it is, whether it is exclusive, or which system will be better for it. The MSG series is not that big of a deal, it just happens to be one of the few games PS3 consumers can look forward to at this point.
