HMV admits that a pre-order listing for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on Xbox 360 found on the site over the weekend was an administration error. The listing caused quite a stir over the weekend as the MGS4 rumor that the game will make its way to Xbox 360 just won't die, recently spurred on further by Konami executive statements. What lent the listing a strange twinge of respectability was that the date set for the Xbox 360 version was five months after the expected spring release of the PS3 version, giving Sony that extra time to still use that word "exclusive" which keeps being attached to the game.
HMV says that the error occurred because someone got overexcited and that the company originally wanted to simply "ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform." They say they didn't intend to start taking pre-orders. HMV says, "We're sorry to have caused such a stir." So watch out for those HMV listings, when they get excited, games magically appear.

Filling a BR disc with content would, going by he second comment, multiply the content by a factor of six. That means that much more development time which means that much more cost. Who will make up that extra cost? The consumer would be my guess. Now if it is just a bunch of lame "making of" content no big deal but if it is levels and maps and CGI then it will up the price considerably. I don't see Sony ever filling up a BR disc with game content contrary to what you desperate BR adopters have been told. It certainly will NEVER happen with a cross platform game and I mean N E V E R!

1 xbox360 out of 3 will have it.. yeah not that serious indeed.

1 out of 3 is pretty good for a Microsoft product. Heck outlook crashes on me once a day. No wonder why people think that the 360 failure rates are spectacularly good. It could have been much much worse.

Yeah, guys... keep hoping it was a "leak". Just accept it: Sony's lost loads of exclusives this generation. I know it. But it stops. Mark my words, Sony will NOT lose this one.

I love how this discussion has absolutely nothing to do with the post. It's just the same insults thrown back and forth, like monkeys throwing their own poop, only less entertaining.

I am not trying to flame here, but anyone defending the Blue Ray format ask yourself this...Who is going to pay for the extra content on the Blue Ray disc? Game development is already taking months for games that fit on DVD 9, now if Blue Ray content is that much more your looking at least double the production. So A. games will be released later (which jeopardizes the period of monetary return for developers) and B. Longer production times = bigger budget. At the rate of PS3 market penetration you would have to be insane as a game publisher to double your production costs on a PS3 game just to take advantage of Blue Ray's capacity. So anyone here putting down DVD9 please read my post carefully and look at it from a business decision.

wat's the point if you're not trying to improve on wat you do? yea, right now it might take more time and money, but that doesnt mean they're going to be like that for the rest of time. you gotta remember this is a new thing they're trying.(developing for the ps3) of course it's gonna a long time. it'll get faster. look at insomniac making their R&C:ToD. it came out faster than we expected, right? it's becuz they had experience with the ps3 before. give'em time! =]

Agreed. I don't see how developers will take the time to fully use the blu-ray, especially since most games these days will be multi-platform.

That "but" is supposed to be "put"
As for MGS4 if you're so certain that its not going to the ps3 why are you and the other sony fanboys constantly having heart attacks whenever a rumor pops up?
If you're truly that confident then why even respond to this thread or any other thread that suggest that MGS4 is coming to the 360?
The reason is that you sony fanboys know that there is a real chance it could come to the 360. And it scares the shit out of you.
Perhaps HMV made an "error". But more likely than not there was NO error. And they know something that we don't. Thats what I choose to believe for now. However I can freely admit that the game might remain a ps3 exclusive. But I won't deny that I want it for the 360.

OMG...IF and when that day comes....it will be World War 3 guaranteed. The sony fanboys won't know what to do wtih themselves. It will be chaos on a level never before seen in the gaming world/community.
Hell MS might recieve death threats as a result.
Joystiq will of course post the news and it will result in the HIGHEST traffic count EVER in the history of the website.
And about 1,000+ posts will be made in response. There will be cursing, laughing, crying, predictions, bans, multiple account creations in a day, 1 page long posts.
Total Chaos.
Hell I don't know if I really want MGS4 to come to come to the 360 now that I think of it...lol

You'll be too busy swapping discs and playing limited games by this time next year to even worry about MGS4. It is going to happen no matter how many times MS tries to muzzle their own dev teams.
If PGR4 devs are complaining - and don't even try to quote the poor attempt at damage control - then you know standard DVD is a problem. WHat was really funny was MS reiterating today that the HDD would not be used for games and that all 360 games would be playable by all 360 owners, core or premium.

Are you serious? "too busy swapping discs"
Hilarious. So now you sony fanboys are claiming that switching discs is a time consuming tasks that will waste large amounts of our precious gaming time?
What a joke.
DVD is not a problem. Nor is it this horrible limation that you want everyone to think it is. And in your ignorance you fail to realize that most people (save ps3 owners) could care less about switching a disc out. Especially if its just 2 discs.

Enjoy the view. It is hard to see anything with your head in the sand. Here is a hint. We aren't the ones bringing the issue up all the time. It is people like Rockstar and the PGR4 devs...no matter how hard they try to backpeddle. As the Japanese proverb says, words once spoken are beyond the hooves of even the fleetest horse.
Here is another bit of wisdom that comes from years in game development - once it reaches the point where devs make a complaint about a customer's less than ideal hardware and shortcomings, it is a very serious problem.

If I recall correctly MGS2 was out before the Xbox so no talk about exclusivity was necessary.

yeah they ported MGS2 Substance which is kind of a late collector edition with more stuff in it. But it realy didn't sell well on the Xbox and thats probably the reason they didn't do the same with MGS3 Subsistence. My concern with MGS4 on the 360 is do 360 owners realy want it (which means they'll buy it) or do they just want to take another PS3 exclusive away. IMO the later is more like it.

Does anyone know here what the budget for Gears of War was? $10 million. Do you know why Microsoft and Epic didn't mind spending that type of coin? Because they knew they were going to have an install base of 6 million consoles. When you have at least 6 millions consoles, with the marketing budget of Gears, they knew they were going to sell at least 3 million copies which it has. So do the math, 3 million copies times $60.00. Gears all on DVD9. At the rate Playstation 3 is selling, they will not see 6 million consoles for another year and a half, granted if they do not have another price drop, so who is going to invest in a game budget larger than Gears of War due to the extended content of a Blue Ray disc without a large user install base? Especially when I can make games cheaper for an already established market in the Xbox 360? Blue Ray only games are going to be a niche category this generation due to its high risk economics.

LOL, yep you're right. The only game that the Sony fanboys have to look forward to that could actually draw an interest to the sinking Sony ship is MGS. If it does migrate to the 360 (which judging by how much it costs to develop and the already large install base of the 360, it most likely will), all those PS3 people will implode, haha.

I bet the reality is something like this:
MGS4 IS PS3 exclusive for the moment. But unless the PS3 has a spectacular Christmas season, they've probably got everything in place to quickly get a 360 version up and running and out the door ASAP.
Since smart money is on all of Sony's new franchises ranging from bombing to something of a letdown, sales-wise (that's just reality, kids. New franchises=hard to sell), I'd say a 360 version is extremely probable...but you won't hear anything until at least December about it.

Ya know...it seems awfully suspicious for them to start putting up ads for preorders and then realize it was a mistake...
I personally have been working for a web marketing company for almost 3 years and I gotta tell you, when you place ads like this there are a thousand guidelines to follow...and at one point you will most certainly catch your mistakes and even if you are unable to do it, another market analyst will.
On top of that, if all else fails they usually send the completed project to a higher management level for approval prior to putting it live on the web.
So to say that it was a mistake based on complete and utter ignorance seems highly suspicious. I would certainly not be surprised if a lesser employee stumbled upon the information and decided to slip it in.
Because for example at our company, we recieve marketing guides and the necessary info months in advance.
Sorry for the conspiracy theory rant. :|
