This Wednesday, you can relive your glory days of high school track and field athletics with Konami's Xbox Live Arcade offering of ... Track & Field. Mash buttons for that 100 meter dash record; hit the button at the right time for the long jump; or press the button in time to jump those hurdles. It's all the glory of your youth – minus the awkward dates and unfortunate facial blemishes – for the low asking price of 400 Microsoft Points ($5). Invite your old high school buddies along for the ride with 4-person Xbox Live multiplayer support and determine, once and for all, who the best athlete is.

I have many memories of playing this game at the local bowling alley! I don't pick up retro titles all too often but I'll purchasing this one.

This isn't the NES version, is it? I thought that one had the view from behind the back, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Idiot, huh? Musta missed that one.
No, it's because every groan-worthy, eye-rolling, baseless shit-talking post on here seems to have your name next to it.

Track & Field was an arcade game long before it hit the NES. The arcade game came out in '82. The NES version came out in '88.
And if you ask me, how is this gonna even be playable? You literally had to mash a set of buttons as fast as you could. On today's controllers, that scheme would be bordering on impossible.

I'll definitely buy this. My friends and I always play Hyper Sports (the sequel to Track & Field) with my friends on my MAME cabinet. These games are a blast to play, especially when having a drink or two.

This peice of garbage isn't even worth $5, nintendo probably handed the rights over to M$ willingly
Posted: Aug 6th 2007 2:32PM (Unverified) said
Hey retard, Nintendo never owned the rights to this game. It's always been Konami's game.
The game was also in the arcades about 5 years before it even showed up on the NES.
Try doing a little research before you open your idiotic little mouth. There were video games before the NES existed.

God I used to love this game.

Same here. When it first came out in the arcade I recall seeing several smashed boards from people slamming the buttons so hard. They eventually put a U-shaped ring of plastic around the buttons so you could only use at most a few fingers to hit the button, rather than an entire palm like before.

I predict an increase in controller sales once this game hits XBLA.
I can see people breaking their controllers from playing this game. The arcade version used a trackball, and the NES version used the A/B buttons for running. So will the XBLA version use buttons, or a back-and-forth waggling of the analog stick?
Either way, it spells controller abuse.

Is it just me, or is the [Wii,360,PS3] racing to the bottom on their [VC, Live, PSN] old school titles? You would think that with the large library of [NES,SNES,N64,Gamecube,PS1,PS2,[whatever the hell they can buy]] titles they could come up with something better to offer.

This stuff they can get really cheap and then say "We have 500 games offered over our [insert online service here]! While [insert competitor's service here] only has 300."

I wouldn't pay $2 for this game let alone $5. MS needs to stop overcharging for these old washed up games.

Attention children who owned NES but never went into an arcade:
Arcade versions of games that you played on your NES were almost always downgrades of the original versions. Better graphics and sounds and controls. Also! Unless it was an NINTENDO game, Nintendo didn't own the game!
Now please blow on your cartridge before you leave. Thank you.

There goes another 5 dollars. Anyone bashing this game needs to play it. Button mashing fun at it's best. I play it on MAME all the time, now I can compare my scores.

What happens when they run out of decades-old arcade games to port?

They'll start porting 1-9 year old arcade games.

We used to have to replace the buttons on the coin-ops of this game about 3x more often than other games. It is the only really fun track-style game ever. I may have to buy it even though I have sworn off of retro.

This game was one of my favorites at the arcade growing up, Elevator Action was the king though.
