Why is it when the debate started about which format was better, HD-DVD OR BLU-RAY. That HD-DVD said it would be cheaper to manufacture, but their prices are higher than Blu-Ray for the same movie? Are they shooting themselves in the foot?

@TedKoz

HD DVD has cheaper hardware. The discs can be more than Blu-ray, but thats because it's a dual-combo. The disc can play on HD DVD players and DVD players. Blu-ray doesn't have that. All (only) HD DVD movies are the same price as Blu-ray movies. If its a Combo-disc it will cost more because it can used on two types of formats. Shooting themselves in the foot? Hardly. The combo-discs are a nice feature. It's added sercurity. If HD DVD goes under (which may never happen(Dual combos are the way to go)), you still have the movie you can play on your dvd player.
