It would be good to note that this MAY make you open and close the dvd drive to detect games.

@2: This only happens if you leave a disk in while the update occurs. The very first time it will not detect the disk. After that, it detects the disk just fine on startup.

You know Phil, that's a very good question. I would think that it would be so that it would also work with GHII, and that the update will also be on the disc itself, but who knows.

yeah, i'm curious as to why they did whis when i'm sure the update will be on the disc as well... unless they are already pressed before the wireless guitars were made ready...

Why now? Maybe it is to let the press play with the preview builds? Wouldn't they use the dev 360s? Makes no sense.

You're all right - it doesn't make sense.... and furthermore it's an awfully large update just to implement what is essentially a new driver. I suspect there's more to it than we've been led to believe. Perhaps an anti piracy measure of some sort?

The people who are buying all these toy guitars are going to feel pretty silly 3 years from now when they no longer play the game but still have toy guitars, bass's and drums lying around.

Yes it certainly is a fucking epidemic that people are buying toys and then don't play with them a couple of years later.

So for $7-30 I can aquire one of these gems below. I then could take a old wired contoller and hack it up and mold them into my own GH/RB guitar. I could even customize them and not feel so bad. Might could make it work with a wireless also. mmmmmmm wonder if CC has any more of the "used" wireless contollers for under $30. The only feature I would loose it the tilt, but thats what the back button is for. The Whammy bar might give me a bit of trouble though.

true losing interest in toys in a couple years isn't new but the price of all the accessories together, the whole thing could potentially be on the order of $200 for the entire band.
Then you look at people who get bored of games once they beat them and you could be talking a couple weeks use.

The people I know who are really into it put so much time into it they could be learning real guitar.

13, you might be surprised how much money people spend on toys.

Also, anyone who says "why don't you just learn to play a real guitar" is missing the point. It's for fun and if you don't think it's fun that's YOUR failing. No need to criticize people who do.

I wonder what you think of people that spend 90+ hours on an RPG? Or people that put 20+ hours a week for years into an MMO? The "waste of time" argument only works if you want to apply it to ALL games. At that point I would suggest you are on the wrong website, in these parts we play video games.

don't ask.
But really they get a lot of use for their money.
When you have to buy a butt load of accessories to play 1 game for a potentially limited time, unlike MMOs, that is when it gets wierd.

This is an extraordinarily subjective statement - I hope you realize this. What you deem to be an acceptable amount of money for an acceptable activity is by no means close to universal. Besides, there are plenty of people that spend way more money on much weirder shit. I don't think people that buy toy guitars or racing wheels or light guns etc. deserve any criticism.

Next time you're playing Madden, maybe you should stop and go play real football?
