Remember all that talk about how Rock Band would have a hard time selling those pricey accessories? Apparently, it won't be so hard after all. The Xbox 360 version of Rock Band Special Edition -- including the game, a drum set, a guitar and a mic -- for $199 is crowdsurfing in online retailer Amazon's bestseller list for video games. As of 8:00 p.m. ET yesterday, it was ranked 10th, though it was 4th place as recent as yesterday afternoon, reports Punch Jump.
On the list of Xbox 360 bestsellers, the game currently ranks 3rd; for the PlayStation 3 bestsellers, that version is currently ranked 9th. While not as great as Best Buy's $60 screwup, it certainly beats Gamestop's previous $300 estimate (now also at $199).

Maybe Harmonix will have enough influence to have the DLC priced right. I mean, they game is already a reasonable price, $100 less than the expected $300.

$60 for a game, $140 for 3 plastic toys?
Give me a break... The original Guitar Hero was $70 with a guitar, the next $80 or $90 with the "next-gen" tax. So we're at $90 with a guitar at the very least. Somehow a drum kit and mic is worth $110 to you people? Ugh.

And the $200 is still speculation at this point.

Spend your money however you want. I own both GH1 and 2 for PS2 with 2 guitars (which, all combined, actually cost me well under $200) as well as Frequency and Amplitude (which I'd love to see a sequel to), so I'm quite familiar with Harmonix's work. I'm sure Rock Band will be fun, but I think $200 is too much for it. And while it may be speculation right now, the fact that so many people, such as yourself, have proudly proclaimed that it'll be well worth the money, I actually wouldn't be surprised if they decided to squeeze even a bit more money out of people.

I'm just not too sure about the microphone - they didn't show too much of that yet.

If you're getting Guitar Hero 3 as well, I'd probably recommend getting that stand alone (so you'll still have 1 guitar) and then, if you're willing to part with the cash, the Rock Band set. That way you'll have 2 guitars + the other Rock band stuff, which is all you need for a complete rock band.

GH3 wins. At least its easy to hide when you're done playing it.

Anyway, I'll be waiting for the full song list and reviews to make a decision, but it is looking good.

Maybe I'll just get the guitar.
Do you suppose it's usable on GH1 & 2?

Sorry, its not worth it for a simulator.

Wireless guitar in PS3 is cool (although I'm sure that could change)
Some of the factors to weigh would be:
360 controllers are supposed to be supported if you have that equipment. [Advantage 360]
360 (MS Live) online service robust and easy. PS3 Online service free. [seems like a draw]
dlc may be different [advantage unknown]
DLC pricing may be better on PS3 as it is shown as real dollars instead of points.
I'd imagine the PS3 could eventually handle bigger/better songs/instruments.
What does everyone think?

I already have my wired GH2 guitar - I dont want another one and I'm sure I'm in the majority and not the minority with that situation.
Whether its Microsoft asshole tax for their mystic protocol or something else, Harmonix needs to bundle this with the wireless guitar, period, and If that means an extra 10 dollar bump to pay Microsoft, fine. Its better than another goddamn wire running across my living room floor.
